Warning sign
This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Kiss_in_houston_.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). This also applies if you are the author yourself.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, and Commons:Permission if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own.

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the OTRS-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Kiss_in_houston_.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

It seems that this file needs a confirmation e-mail from its copyright holder(s) in order to be hosted on Commons. It is the case for any copyrighted logo, content coming from an identified website or publication, or credited to somebody else than the Commons user. The copyright holder (maybe it's you, maybe not) should send us an e-mail in this form to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. When the e-mail has been sent, please apply OTRS pending on the image page (in the "permission" field) to tell us so (and to prevent the file from being deleted). Please don't ignore this message, contact me instead if you want to discuss the issue or if you have a question about the procedure. Eusebius (talk) 11:11, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

ok, i'll work as hard as i can to get permisson from the kiss website. idk if i can since it was a free image after all...is there something i can change to that since the image was given out for free? Eric Carr Fan (talk) 20:49, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi. You must absolutely keep in mind that a picture displayed on a website, or published in any way, is not free of rights by default. Please don't upload on Commons files that you have taken from the web! Unless of course there is a clear statement on the source website, such as "the content of this website is released under [some free license]". You can find more details about free licenses at COM:L, and I strongly suggest you have a look at COM:CB and keep it in your bookmarks. It is a pretty convenient list of what you can/can't upload on Commons, and why.
Regarding this image in particular, you can try getting a permission from the source website, but I wouldn't hope too much. There is a sample message on Wikipedia for requesting a permission, if you want to do things properly.
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions about anything on Commons, or if you need help. --Eusebius (talk) 21:16, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
but the thing is it wasn't on a website. they put it on flashdrives and passed them out to everyone
Regarding copyright, it doesn't change anything. Regarding permission... it's getting more difficult! --Eusebius (talk) 21:47, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
crap....i just sent a email/letter to the offical site asking for help, and i gave them a link to this page so they can see what i need. all i can do now is just hope they see it and help me out. Eric Carr Fan (talk) 22:12, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, Eric Carr Fan!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Files you uploaded may be deleted[edit]

The files listed below, which you uploaded, have been tagged OTRS pending for more than 30 days. This tag indicates that an email setting out permission to use the file was sent to the OTRS team. Unfortunately, we cannot find any record that such an email has been received, and accordingly the file remains without permission. Unless the OTRS team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. If you have not sent the permission, please send it to "permissions-commons@wikimedia.org" now. Please quote the file name in your email. If you have, please leave a message at the OTRS noticeboard, quoting the file name, so that a volunteer can follow this up. Alternatively, you can contact an OTRS volunteer directly. Please note that this message is being left by an automated bot, whose operator is not an OTRS volunteer, therefore please do not send this information to me, as it will not save your images from deletion. Thanks for your time! Please help translate this message! HersfoldOTRSBot(talk/opt out) 04:42, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
