Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

Deletion request closures[edit]

Hey Fanghong, could you please use ---- instead of underscores? It throws the formatting off at the Deletion requests page. Thanks, Blurpeace 03:30, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for telling me.--Fanghong (talk) 08:54, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Orsay1.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Thank you.

creators[edit]

Hello. We need the help of a Chinese speaker with an interest in art for some advice about creator templates.

As you may know, in each file about a non-anonymous artwork should be included a "creator" template that inludes the name of the artist, his dates, and a few other infos. When it is fully displayed, it looks like this

Pietro Perugino (1448–1523) Link back to Creator infobox template wikidata:Q5827
Pietro Perugino
Alternative names Birth name: Pietro Vannucci
Description

Italian painter

Date of birth/death between circa 1445 and circa 1448 1523
Location of birth/death Città della Pieve Fontignano
Work location Perugia, Florence, Rome, Orvieto
Authority control

This kind of template is often lacking for Chinese artists. One of the reasons is that it is not always easy for non-Chinese to create this kind of template. That's why we should probably have a standardized payout that would help us to create them.

The main question is about the "alternative names" field. The thing is that if we put all possible alternative names, with all romanisation system that exist, we get something huge and cumbersome. I suggest that in most cases, we use Chinese characters for the Chinese versions, and only pinyin and Chinese characters on the Western-languages versions. This means that we don't use Wade-Giles and other romanisation systems that have sometimes been quite widely used in English. The justification is that these systems are less and less used, except for 20th century Taiwanese names. For them, we can probably add Wade-Giles and drop simplified Chinese characters. Besides, Wade-Giles spellings are not really "alternative names", just different spellings and they easily inferred from the pinyin. So they should only be created as redirects.

So, what I suggest for non-20th-century artists is an "alternative names" field looking like this:

  • In English:

surname and name: Li Bai (李白)
Template:Courtesy name: Tai Bai (太白)
peudonym: Qīnglián Jūshì (青莲居士/青蓮居士)

  • In simplified Chinese :

姓名: 李白
表字: 太白
号: 青莲居士 (青蓮居士)

  • in traditional Chinese:

姓名: 李白
表字: 太白
號: 青蓮居士

Does it seem all right to you ?--Zolo (talk) 08:33, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

File:ConfuciusPortrait.jpg[edit]

Commons-emblem-issue.svg File:ConfuciusPortrait.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
