Category:Bundestag (Germany)[edit]

Why have you created this category? The Category:Bundestag is sufficient, there's no reason for the paranthesis. regards--Notschrei 00:02, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Category:Rulers of Württemberg[edit]

This category should be sub-divided like this:

The Kings of Württemberg (or House of Württemberg), however you want to reorganize, should be further divided into the following sub-categories:

The counts and dukes also will need subdivisions in the future. For the moment there are not enough images. The spouses and queens I have included under the categories of their ruling husbands. If you have objections we should also find useful categories --Wuselig 06:53, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Rotes Rathaus[edit]

Rotes Rathaus Berlin April 2007 panorama.jpg

Hi Gryffindor,

I made a panorama with the two pictures you provided. You can still notice the different exposures on the building on the left, but the rest looks pretty good!

Enjoy! -- Ogre 17:28, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Category:Roman emperors[edit]

I see that you sorted images, and latinized the names which were not in Latin already. I can but agree with what you did. Probably we should add a category for roman emperesses, soon or late, and another for emperial families. However, right now everything is OK to my eyes. The only thing I would ask it using a lighter colour on the top, the dark purple makes it impossible reading the warning. Thank you for your work. --G.dallorto 13:00, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Panorama pictures[edit]

Hi again,

it seems I am becoming your personal panoramist! ;-) (I just did the Palais Clam-Gallas)

I also noticed you wanted help with the Image:Putrajaya_panorama_Jan_2007_b.JPG and Image:Putrajaya_panorama_Jan_2007_b.JPG. If you have the individual images, I could give it a try (not sure about the sky, that's always tricky).

BTW, if you work with linux, you could try hugin, that's what I use. --Ogre 20:50, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Erzherzogin Maria Elisabeth[edit]

Re: Category:Ferdinando II de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany[edit]

Dear Gryffindor, please do NOT change categories relating to monarchs of Italy by adding their titles. This would only complicate things in categorising without adding any improval in clarity. Not even a heraldry expert could remind all of their silly titles. "Ferdinando II de' Medici" is enough to recognise the person: there is just one. Futhermore, if we should adopt your criterion, we should have a Cosimo I de' Medici, Duke and Grand Duke of Tuscany, which is ridiculous. And we should hjave a Category:Benedictus XVI, pope. And Category:George W: Bush, President of the United States. So please let's keep things simple. Use the Occam rasor, wikipedian version: "Simple and plain definitions should not made tortuous and complicate unless a clear benefit comes from the complication". Thank you in advance. --User:G.dallorto 12:28, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello Gryffindor, actually the policy says titles should be in English (and in fact we have "Grand Dukes of Tuscany", not "Granduchi di Toscana"), not that we should be a clone of en:Wikipedia. Which is a different thing.
I would like to call your attention on the fact that this is WikiCommons, not Wikipedia: a different project. I myself use en:Wikipedia as a reference whenever I have to creat a new entry, especially when I can't figure out what the English name of a person might be (so we have a Category:Victor Emmanuel II, not a "Vittorio Emanuele II" one). But en:Wikipedia is not an authoritative guide. We have our own rules here. You can in fact see the category scheme for Italy here, and the "People of Italy" scheme here. You will notice that the title after the name of the monarchs is not foreseen (yet). And there is no reason to stick to the :en:Wikipedia scheme, which has no consistent scheme behind. For instance, there is no reason why there should be a "Ferdinando II de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany" entry, against a Francesco II Sforza entry in place of "Francesco II Sforza, Duke of Milan" one. As you see, it's en:Wikipedia which is contraddicting itself, not us. And no, I have no intention to ask for change of the entries of en:Wikipedia so that those in Commons can have their consistency. There is no need to do so: en:Wikipedia (that is to say, "Wikipedia in English") is an autohonomous project.
Of course you may, as anyone else, propose changes to the Italy category scheme. If you feel so, please do. But, again, after you did, it is the WikiCommons scheme we have to stick to, not the Wikipedia one. Wikipedia is another project.
If you think my point of view is not acceptable, we can discuss the matter further in the Village pump to know what the others think. Meanwhile, please don't relocate further categories without warning anyone. Thank you in advance. --User:G.dallorto 12:52, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Rossauer Kaserne[edit]

Hi,

the first one used a spherical projection and the second one a rectilinear one. That means that the program projects the combined images to a sphere or a plane but there are of course many other possibilities. Depending on the situation (e.g. distance to subject) some projections will distort the subject more or less (and now that I see both side by side, I think I should change the first panorama!).

I hope that helped!

Perspective fixes on images[edit]

Thanks! I do a lot of perspective adjustments, I suppose practice makes perfect :) I'll get to work on the ones you pointed out, as soon as I'm finished a few requests from others that I got behind on. If you find any more feel free to note them on my talk page and I'll get to work as soon as I can. -- Editor at Largetalk 22:35, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

I took a break from SVGs today and did these for you; the boy (Image:Martin van Meytens 003.jpg) was a bit troublesome, and still looks a tad odd; but I think that is the painting itself (he is rather long and skinny) rather than the perspective fix. Any wider and he looked bloated. Maria Iosepha was easier and worked as well as the first one. If you don't like my fixes feel free to revert, I can try again or perhaps someone else can get it right :) Regards, -- Editor at Largetalk 18:33, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Conventions for German municipalities[edit]

I support this edit absolutely. But there are yet over 1000 categories which contain ", Germany" in their name. Do you know if there's a possibility for renaming all these cats automatically using a bot? Greets--Notschrei 19:24, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

There is a number of links from the German Wikipedia to the Commons municipality categories. Who fixes these links?--Notschrei 18:50, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Image:Heiligendamm May 2007 004.jpg[edit]

Hi!

I'm fine thanks. I just got a job in Kiev so I hadn't had much time recently for commons, but that will change :-)

The panorama looks a little distorted, but the sky looks pretty homogeneous. I'll take a look at it (and at the Golden-Sands Hotel).

Cheers, --Ogre 17:23, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

I have created panoramas Image:Gut Hohen Luckow Panorama.jpg and Image:Gut_Hohen_Luckow_Panorama_2.jpg because they were in the Category:Images requiring combining. Tell me if you see any stitching errors. --Digon3 19:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Also fixed Image:Heiligendamm May 2007 004.jpg as Image:Image-Heiligendamm Panorama.jpg. --Digon

German municipalities[edit]

Do you want to continue the removing of the ", Germany"? I think we should push this through now as some federal states are already finished. However, the Category:Municipalities in Baden-Württemberg is a "hunk" (großer Brocken). The fixing of the commons links on the wikipedia projects would be my part (but the commons cats are more likely less linked).--Notschrei 13:20, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Why did you tag this image for deletion (4 times) while it has a Self2-licence? --Hardscarf 12:51, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

The user in question draws this kind of images himself (this one and this one are other fine examples). If you don't believe that he did, then why not ask him about it yourself? On his userpage is stated that he speaks English (at a near-native level). [edit] I've asked him to reply here also. --Hardscarf 18:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Panoramas[edit]

Categories for Italy[edit]

Dear Gryffindor, as per discussion here, it seems that you moved by means of a bot a whole bunch of categories of Rome, creating a mess, since now some categories follow a grammar and some others follow a different one: as a whole now Rome is following a different grammar than the rest of Italy.

You are of course most welcome to contribute to the much needed work of categorisation of Italy. This work is even more neeeded since until not so many months ago all categories were removed from all images of Italy for some misunderstanding that had favored a "galleries-only" approach. After a heated debate, we found a solid compromise ground by creating a Commons:Category scheme Italy, to which you can obviosly contribute too, but with which I ask you to comply as anybody else here. You can propose amendments and changes. But I am afraid you have to respect the categorisation work made so far to avoid chaos stemming from isolated initiatives. I welcome a better coordination, and I am always happy to get contributions to the categorisation work I'm doing almost single-handedly. Therefore I ask you, in the future, to ask before moving, by using the template {{move|:Category:Nameofthenewcategory}} and by waiting to chech about reactions to your proposals, if any. If you feel different grammars would be better suited, you are welcome to ask, suggest, and discuss. But please avoid repeating the same initiative of a mass-change without warning or discussion. In our case, the result is that the work has to be redone to put things back as they were. If a more general discussion has to be done, let's to it in the appropriate place. But once againg, first ask, then upon reaching an agreement, act. thank you in advance. --User:G.dallorto 19:24, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Removing extra categories...[edit]

Thanks for doing that. Wasn't sure whether to put the cat as a subcat in existing cats, or in the gallery page, or both. Yours, Smee 17:39, 3 June 2007 (UTC).

Panoramas[edit]

Afghanistan[edit]

Please do not remove categories in Afghanistan related images without a discussion. Why did you remove the Category:Afghanistan from the "Image:GW Bush and Hamid Karzai in Kabul 2006-03-01.jpg". Please don't do that again because the image shows US president George Bush in Afghanistan, which is very historical to that country. Certain images may be stored in multiple categories, which some of these categories are used in Wikipedia articles.--Executioner 20:35, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

I am not new, check my history before you make wrong guesses. I told you that this image is not just about the people in the picture but also about the country Afghanistan because the picture was taken inside Afghanistan. This specific picture may stay in the Afghanistan category and at the same time added to other categories as well. Don't use your anger but use your brains. I am Afghan from Afghanistan, and and you are not, maybe you have a purpose in trying to make Afghanistan's image look bad by removing this very historical US President George Bush's picture inside Afghanistan and hide it in sub-categories. In order to settle this and prove to me that you are not that type of person, you will need to have a discussion on this matter. And I don't care if you are an administrator here.--Executioner 12:03, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Your action (for persistingly removing this image) clearly indicates that you are angry, maybe you don't like George Bush or Hamid Karzai. I have no idea why you don't listen to my point....about this image being more related to the country of AFGHANISTAN or the recent history of Afghanistan than to the temporary presidents of the nations. Do not compare USA with Afghanistan in this case, as USA is always visited by all the leaders of the world on normal bases. USA is the most developed country on earth, as Afghanistan is the opposit, being the least developed nation in the world. If you gonna play this game with me, try me and I will revert your vandalism every day until you learn to accept that the white man is superior.--Executioner 21:15, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

You think that since you are an administrator, you are better than me because I may be new here, but look at your talk page, it shows that you are doing something wrong here because you have many warnings from others. As for me, I have not violated any rules here. Those rules of Commons are basic commonse sense rules, any person with little education can follw these simple common sense rules. However, you are the one who fail to understand them because you think that every image must only be placed in one catgory. That way of thinking is completely stupid. You may place the images in as many categories as you wish, as long as they relate to the category and that those categories do not have too many images. Afghanistan category is lacking images so I believe this image should remain in Afghanistan's until I upload more good looking images.--Executioner 22:09, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

I am not having problems understand your point, it is you who do not understand my point. The image shows, George Bush + Hamid Karzai + flags of USA and Afghanistan and the scene is inside "AFGHANISTAN", something that occurred on a historical visit of US President George Bush to "AFGHANISTAN". This is a very historical event that took place in Afghanistan, and the country Afghanistan is short on images for now, so lets just add this image to Afghanistan category for now until Afghanistan one day becomes like USA or Britain then we may remove it from Afghanistan category. You fail to understand that Afghanistan is not the same country as most countries in the world because it is starting as a new nation. And the people behind creating this new Afghanistan is George Bush and Hamid Karzai, so do you see the importance of this historical image for Afghanistan? This is the whole idea why this image is so important and must be included in Afghanistan category for now. If I follow your logic, you want every single image removed from Afghanistan category and that is stupid because there must be some images available there. I wish you just go away from Afghanistan and let me organize all Afghanistan related categories because I am not in the mood to for edit war. If it helps, you should go organize Cambodia or other places.--Executioner 22:36, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

The chart you showed me in my talk page is exactly what I've been trying to explain to you. The number 1 is refering to Afghanistan category and the 2, 3, 4 and so on are refering to sub categories for Afghanistan. The picture was taken inside Afghanistan on March 1, 2006, on the day USA's President visited Afghanistan. The Afghanistan category is suppose to contain recent images of Afghanistan, which this image is part of the recent events that took place in the country.--Executioner 00:16, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Panoramas[edit]

I uploaded Image:Heiligendamm Beach Panorama.jpg, Image:Heiligendamm Beach Villas Panorama.jpg, Image:Heiligendamm Beach Villas Panorama 2.jpg, Image:Heiligendamm Pier Panorama.jpg. There are several stitching errors because water is really hard to do, but I tried my best. Do you use a tripod? Also, for next time if the panorama you want made is more than three pictures, could you just tell me on my talk page wich ones you want done instead of putting them in the Images requiring combining Category? That way it saves me time because I do not have to remove the Category tags on each image after I make the panorama. --Digon 19:14, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Surreal move[edit]

You have requested to move Category:Buddhas of Bamyan without prior discussion. This move is incorrect (we don't use the names of UNESCO World Heritage Sites), and the destination category is impracticable. So, I ask you to cancel this move and to restore the deleted category (see also Buddhas of Bamyan). --Juiced lemon 20:49, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Bot request[edit]

Greetings. I have requested to be approved to use a bot to add categories to images. The request for approval has turned into something of a debate. I wonder if you would like to comment? Commons:Bots/Requests for flags/Polbot Quadell (talk) 21:56, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
