Hello, Hans Erren!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Languages Benelux.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Deutsch: Hallo Hans Erren,

  1. Was ist das grün markierte Gebiet? Ich vermute unbewohnt, Naturschutzgbiet und offiziell französichsprachig.
Danke! --Purodha Blissenbach (talk) 11:40, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

English: Hi Hans Erren,

Ther are two questions about the map Ripuarisch.png which you might be able to answr:

  1. The article de:Ripuarische Dialektgruppe states that in the region of Ahrweiler and in the vincinity of Brohl, they were speaking Ripuarian. As a traveler, my acoustic impression is backing the first. Yet the map shows the federal state border as the language border. How that? Am I misinterpreting the map?
  2. What about the green area in the map? I assume, it's uninhabitated, natural reservere, and officially speaking french.
Than you for a reply. --Purodha Blissenbach (talk) 11:40, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deutsch: Antwort: Hallo Purodha

Gruen is unbewohnt/wald, also de facto sprachenlos. Hier [1] ist meine quelle fuer das Ripuarisch,

Wie man sieht is Ahrweiler hier nicht ripuarisch angedeutet. Hans Erren (talk) 20:35, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
LG, --Hardcore-Mike (talk) 19:14, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I don't know the language is the best to talk to you...(french for me, but english is ok)... Would you mind if I touch it up and add a black background so as to not see the reflection on the window, like I do with my own imports, or as I did for a pic made by DerHexer (File:Römermuseum Osterburken (DerHexer) 2012-09-30 091.jpg) ? What, already deleted? I did not even have time to check! Hans Erren (talk) 19:47, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, all my fault. I loved that pic and used it on Amsterdamer Pegel. Later I found your pic shown on http://normaalamsterdamspeil.nl/wp-content/uploads/Huddesteen_eenhoornsluis-276x300.jpg and there ( http://www.normaalamsterdamspeil.nl/ ) marked Copyright 2013, Stichting Normaal Amsterdams Peil. I started an investigation here, which went totally wrong. After a complain your pic is now back online. Thanks for your work and sorry for the trouble. Feel free to sue Stichting Normaal Amsterdams Peil. --Rknbg (talk) 18:16, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
no harm done, I sent Stichting Normaal Amsterdams Peil a notification. Hans Erren (talk) 22:07, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 23:05, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright rules for map extracts[edit]

Hello Hans, I would like to illustrate several Wiki entries with extracts of old maps, for instance Ferraris, but also more recent maps. What are the copyright statements to be indicated? And what about copyright when publishing old postcards? Thanks. Jnyssen (talk) 12:09, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

All maps published before 1927 can be considered to be in the Public Domain, it would be nice to give a wikimedia commons reference for your audience, but that is not obligatory, (suggestion: Wikimedia Commons - Public Domain, with the uploader source, e.g. Nationaal Archief). You can even print them on a t-shirt and sell them. Be carefull however with postcards as they often have copyrights pending. Some musea claim a copyright on old maps, but I don't know how legally binding that claim is. Hans Erren (talk) 12:52, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Defaultsort[edit]

Vr. gr. Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 21:42, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hans Erren (talk) 05:45, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Vr. gr. Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 13:18, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
