--LA2 (talk) 14:56, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, Haxpett!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Category:Tegera Arena[edit]

Please move old category next ime instead of creating a new one... --Xgeorg (talk) 13:47, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

You are absolutely right. I'll keep that in mind for the next time. /Haxpett (talk) 18:30, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Images from Nordiska Museet[edit]

Haxpett, i think in renaming the images from the Nordiska Museet, because a name like NMA.0023952.jpg isn't very descritive :) My problem is: I rename the file to "Hur långt ha vi fram?", "NMA - Hur långt ha vi fram?" or "Nordiska Museet - Hur långt ha vi fram?" (or maybe other name?)

Could you help me?

By the way: Congrats for the cooperation. :) Béria Lima msg 14:20, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you. It's nice to finally see some images here.
I asked User:Nordiskamuseet (via e-mail) and the answer is that it would be convenient to have the numbers left somewhere in the name. But since the images are PD they realize that the names can change and there is nothing they can do about it. There are still ~900 images to be uploaded, so we can continue the naming discussion here. /Haxpett (talk) 22:33, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

WLM Mobile login problems[edit]

Hi Axel, we couldn't login with the WLM app to upload photo's. Do you have some more info so we can debug this? Multichill (talk) 19:16, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Well, it seems to be working now. No changes made from my side (that I know of) and I don't think I've updated the WLM-tool (if it's not done by it self). Maybe the wifi at the museum didn't like my phone or something like that. /Haxpett (talk) 14:49, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the feedback. Multichill (talk) 20:21, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

QRpedia code[edit]

I do so like the model you made. Did you 3D print it or assemble it? Victuallers (talk) 13:02, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

I guess you mean this one. It's assembled with fusible plastic beads and ironed to stick togeather. LittleGun is the mastermind behind it and it is a gift to our new office. /Haxpett (talk) 17:56, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Public Art about to take off!

Dear Haxpett,
During May we are running Wiki Loves Public Art, a photo contest focused on getting photographs of artworks and sculptures uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.

Have a look at the lists of objects included, and of participating GLAMs in your country, and upload as many images as you can.

Kind regards,
the organizers of Wiki Loves Public Art
