But FOTW cannot claim copyright on Image:Us-ca-sf.png, or any flag image for that matter, unless it actually owns the image. Furthermore, as this image was significantly modified (as was indicated in the page detail), FOTW has no claims whatsoever on the image.

I'm not getting myself into this whole FOTW vs. Wikipedia debate, but needless to say, their presence on Wikipedia/Commons is controversial so I wholeheartedly believe we're better out without them. Yes, you can peice together pieces of various versions of a public domain image and call it public domain.

We actually have good relation with FOTW editors--two of them are Commons admins, in fact. FOTW's copyright claims on public domain images are spurious, and the only reason we regard them is because we have a relationship with editors there. Using the FOTW template tag causes these images to be incorrectly labeled as copyvios.

I see no indication that you have replaced any of these images with acceptable quality.

I notice that you're transferring a lot of files from GIF to PNG.. have you considered SVG instead? SVG is superseding PNG much in the way PNG superseded GIF. A freeware program called Inkscape is available for creating SVGs. Thanks! Drumguy8800 07:02, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

After changing text to path, Text dissapeared (or may be it had fallen to the lowest layer). You can see that I have a problem not only with text, but with some another objects too.. Why you replace the flag of the kingdom of france by a white flag that doesn't make sense the real flag have Iris so pleas delete what you have doing. This flag was just used by some naval fleet and not for the flag of the kingdom of France. Comeau
