Getting help

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Hello, Hotcop2!

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Targeting?[edit]

hello I am not targeting you. I am just asking for you to archive your photos and permission. You've been instructed to email COM:OTRS to get your files restored if you did that in the first place like the tag on your photos said to do then they would not have been deleted. its not to late you can still send the email and they will restore your images. it is a good idea that you should do this every time you upload your own images so you don't have a problem in the future. 3 points:

COM:OTRS#When contacting OTRS is unnecessary: I took the image myself and it hasn't been previously published (and there is no other copyright involved). Just follow the instructions found on the Commons:Upload page, unless the image is of outstanding quality or there is some other reason your authorship may be doubted.
{{No permission since}} is for those files whose permission tag is missing, or the permission and the authorship are strongly doubted due to some strong and clear evidences to the contrary. And User:Dman41689 did not cite any evidence.
As I said on his talk page, which was unreasonably deleted by him, he didn't assume good faith: Unless there is clear evidence to the contrary, assume that people who work on the project are trying to help it, not hurt it. Sending mail to OTRS is not required for every uploader who claims authorship. If the uploader said it's his own work, you should probably believe him, unless you have very strong evidence to doubt that.

To Hotcop2: for these photos: File:Victor Willis.jpg, File:Winfield Cooperstown.jpg, File:VillagePeople1978.jpg, File:Victor Willis in concert 2008.jpg, File:NewYorkCity2001.jpg, File:DaveWinfieldbyMarioCasciano.jpg, are you the very original author, who used a camera to take these photos, rather than who scanned these photos which were originally taken by other people? If you are the original author, It's fair enough to remove those {{No permission since}} tags, and to open undeletion requests for those already deleted files. Yes, Tomchen, I took the original photos. Village People and Dave Winfield were taken with a film camera and had to be scanned. Willis in convcert was taken digitally. Hotcop2 (talk) 18:27, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think he is a bit weird, I really have no idea why he deleted my sincere suggestion and your discussion. Although it's his own talk page, it's no good to do that. The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Lennon Imagine 45 sleeve.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Lennon Imagine single picture sleeve[edit]

Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. I tried to delete it, but there was no such option. I up loaded one on wikipedia under "fair use/cd cover" license for use in the page called A Very Merry Christmas to You (which is currently in draft form) but someone removed there too, because it can only be used in an article, which I thought it was.
