Rollbacker

Commons Rollbacker.svg

I have 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Commons:Rollback. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. INeverCry 21:20, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Welcome, Dear Patroller!

Hi Jianhui67,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller ! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use you help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.

Hi

Hi Jianhui. Glad to see you here. ;) (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 08:59, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

Yo Arctic Kangaroo! I am currently in Bangkok now. Internet connection is not that good here. Saw many vandalized walls and properties. Are you unblocked in en-wiki? JianhuiMobile (talk) 15:58, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
No. Earliest is March next year. But anyway, how's the protests goin'? (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 16:05, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
I did not go to the area of the protests, which is at the parliament centre and the national stadium. The traffic in Bangkok is very bad. I can even take a picture of a vandalized wall. There are a lot of them everywhere. JianhuiMobile (talk) 16:30, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Taipei also. Especially around the Ximending area. Although I'm not sure if it's as bad as Bangkok. (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 16:31, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
I also saw a wall saying 'fyp'. On my way to Chinatown, I also saw a lot of anti-government posters. JianhuiMobile (talk) 16:34, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
What's that? "F*** you ppl"? (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 16:37, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Haha...the work of Suthep's protesters. Hope he wins (doubt he will, though). (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 16:38, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
It is actually 'f*** your politics'. JianhuiMobile (talk) 16:41, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

Reverting vandalism here

Hi Jianhui, usually how you revert vandalism here? Keep refreshing RC repeatedly, checking abuse log, or there's any sort of tool like Huggle or STiki? (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 04:18, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Arctic Kangaroo. I usually check Special:Tags and unpatrolled IP contributions to patrol for vandalism. Nah I don't refresh RC repeatedly. Commons does not receive as much vandalism as Wikipedia. There is no Huggle or STiki here. You can also read up COM:VAND and COM:CVU. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 08:26, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi Jianhui, lately have you been encountering problems loading RTRC? I click "Apply" and it just keeps loading. The first time I use it, everything was fine. (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 15:25, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Arctic Kangaroo. It is a glitch and I have told Krinkle about it already. I suggest you direct the problem to Krinkle. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 08:48, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
I suspect his is due to the CVN DB being down. Try again with that option disabled. –Krinkletalk 11:39, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
See also https://github.com/Krinkle/mw-gadget-rtrc/issues/28, I've just deployed a change to the code that disables the CVN DB feature temporarily since it is affecting quite a few users who use permalinks that pre-enable CVN DB (which makes it hard to see that it is failing because of CVN DB). –Krinkletalk 11:40, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi. You just renamed file which I uploaded into an inaccurate name: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Užice_and_Bihać_Republic.png That map shows two republics, not one, so the correct title should be "Užice_and_Bihać_Republics". PANONIAN (talk) 20:24, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Incorrect rationale for image moves

Greetings Jianhui67, you recently moved what are now File:Ural with coal Tkvarcheli.jpg and File:Tkvarcheli mountains.jpg under Criterion #5 for moving, which is incorrect names. However neither of the former names were incorrect, they were simply of a different language (Abkhazian rather than Georgian). They should be moved back. Title and description

Hi. I reverted to the former wording used here and have also requested the title to be changed back to the former one. The only truth is that it is one Palestinian minor (not "Arab teen"), atleast in that picture, so that should be adjusted too.

I have edited my reply here as I have looked around more. I saw that this was the original descriptionː Israeli soldiers at Kalandia checkpoint in occupied West Bank taking Palestinian minors out of sight behind a building and assaulting them (presumably in an effort to obtain information from them). Other soldiers interrupted my photo-taking as the pictured soldiers repeatedly struck the kid in the head. There is no reason to change the author's descripton. Someone removed the first one, with no explanation, but obviously he did not like it of some reason. It it troubling that it first gets changed from this to "questioning" then to a soldier just being with a minor. I have reinserted it. Gilabrand is heavily involved about topic in Wikipedia and have gotten several blocks for bias etc. I hope this is not the case here but saying the wording is false, and changing it, is a big thing and needs to be backed up. Here is another example, in the same topic area, where he says it is "unsourced OR". But this is not Wikipedia and their policies do not apply here.

I have nothing against rewording and changing the title or description as long it is not misrepresenting what the author is claiming. --IRISZOOM (talk) 05:40, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi! I have reverted the file back as according to what you said. Thanks for correcting my mistake! Jianhui67 talkcontribs 11:02, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Okay. I am of course not faulting you. I am just explaining why the former wording was okay. I will also reinsert the former description on File:16 - Child.jpg as the current one is biased and misleading. Now it only says it is a child standing in a house. The whole background is gone. --IRISZOOM (talk) 15:17, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

This will help avoid future drama by making it clear why (or why not) the community believes bureaucrats should be free to act in this way. Thank you. Thryduulf (talk) 17:24, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Added a reason. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 09:35, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
