[edit] photo permission

Hello, I would like to contact you about permission to use one of your photographs from Wikimedia Commons in a book I am working on. Please contact me at jkwalton5@gmail.com at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

[edit] Image:Pula030.jpg

Hallo, I can't find the Ancient Roman part in this picture: this is a Renaissance/Mannerist bifora, even bearing the Lion of Saint Mark, symbol of the Republic of Venice. Perhaps you got confused with the description of another picture? Or, if the bifora was built spoiling Roman marbles, could you be so kind to edit the description to say so? Thank you in advance for your help. --User:G.dallorto 17:22, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Looking closer at the picture, I must admit that this bifora doesn't even look Ancient Roman. However, even J.J. Wilkes in the the authoritative Grove Dictionary of Art mentions : "only the rear elevation of the other temple, probably dedicated to Diana, is preserved" (the first temple being the temple of Roma and Augustus). Furthermore, my Croatian guide said clearly that this was the remains of a Roman temple, a rare example of incorporating Roman marbles into a Renaissance building .If I remember well, this house presently consists of offices ( perhaps a bank ?). But I didn't look more closely, since it was raining hard at that moment and I had to take shelter. So I would agree with your conclusion that these Roman marbles were worked over during the Venetian period of Pula (in the 15th-16th century ?). If you agree with this explanation, i will change the description of the picture. JoJan 15:50, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Hallo, you know better than I do, because you were there and you talked to the guide and I did not. So please do change the caption accordingly with what you are writing here. By the way, the example is not that rare: the reuse of roman marbles was very common at that time and, far from considering it a crime, it was considered a way to "revive" the ruins :-( . The point is that normally the reworkings have been demolished in the 19th and 20th century to "free" the original roman part. Even the Colosseum in the Middle ages looked like a fortress, with its battlements & re....
The only point is that the caption should make it more clear that this is not a "roman bifora" :-) , but a mannerist bifora created by spoiling ancient roman marbles and architectonical items and incroporating them into the final result. Thank you for your kind attention. --User:G.dallorto 17:25, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Photos of Pula

Thanks for adding the photos of my hometown but one advice: please add category:Pula without that the photos could easily be lost if someone removes them from page Pula in order to add new photos. Cheers, --Orlovic (talk) 13:18, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

It seems that the Commons doesn't accept Cyrilic script. If I read it correctly, the Makedonian wikipedia says that it belongs in the Category : GFDL and more probably GFDL-self. JoJan 19:27, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Baška or city of Krk

Hi,

I've seen your pictures from Krk island, but I'm wondering are they from Baška (as you stated in the description) or from the city of Krk.

Could you please check Category: Baška, Croatia.

Thanks. --Veliki Kategorizator 01:13, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

P.S. I guess it is Krk after all. See Category:Krk. --Veliki Kategorizator 01:16, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Rimini031.jpg

I'm pretty sure you got something wrong with your uploads here: if you look at the version history you see that first you had a completely different picture under the same name. I only discovered it because the category page still had the first one for its thumbnail. Did you really want to overwrite that? --Hk kng (talk) 17:22, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

You're right. When uploading one image after after another, I must have made a mistake. I've made new uploads, everything should be OK now. JoJan (talk) 08:47, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

This was more than three years ago ! At this moment, this is as good as impossible for me to find out where this photo came from. But of one thing I'm certain : the license is OK, otherwise I wouldn't have uploaded the photo. Too bad that I can't provide any proof for this. JoJan (talk) 18:16, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello JoJan!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Commons images are used by editors on many projects in many languages. Each image is put into categories. This helps other editors find them. Please add categories to each image you upload.

To add an image to a category, add the following code to the end of the page.

[[Category:Category Name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbit of comets, add the following to the image description page:

[edit] Category:Agora of Izmir

Hello JoJan! I saw that you created the above category. I suggest gathering the related images under Category:Agora of Smyrna, which seems more fitting and will offer the advantage of being directly incorporated into Category:Smyrna. I also do think it's worth preserving a distinct category for the agora under the category for the ancient city though. Regards. Cretanforever (talk) 25 January 2009

Hi. Please contact me. I would like to use three of your photos in a book about european art-museums. kristina.arvidson@gmail.com

Are you planning to add images to this gallery? If it remains empty it will most likely be deleted. Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 21:03, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Dicentrarchus labrax vs Chelon labrosus

Hello JoJan, I've seen your picture "Chelon labrosus.jpg" and I think the "main" fish is an European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax). Actually, you can also see half Thicklip grey mullet but a Wrasse and an European spider crab (Maja squinado) too. So, I think you should change the category (and perhaps the name) of this file, in order to avoid confusions. Best wishes, --DPC (talk) 17:24, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Move the mouse over the picture "Chelon labrosus.jpg" to see some notes. I'd like you to answer me, thanks.--DPC (talk) 08:26, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for the belated answer. You're right, the fish in the center is Dicentrarchus labrax. My mistake arose because I relied on the name at the aquarium. I have re-uploaded the image at File:Dicentrarchus labrax001.jpg, while at the same time photoshopping the image for better contrast and color balance. I've also asked for the deletion of File:Chelon labrosus.jpg.

Cheers. JoJan (talk) 16:42, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Jetairfly and Freedom of Panorama

It turns out that Belgium does not have the Freedom of Panorama, as seen here: Commons:Freedom of Panorama

Therefore the Jetairfly image may have to be moved to the English Wikipedia. See: Commons:Deletion requests/File:HPIM1924.JPG - I did this after consulting the village pump here: Commons:Village_pump#Belgium_and_Freedom_of_panorama - If it is removed from the Commons, it will be put on the English Wikipedia instead.

Thank you for taking the photo - It will still be here, even if it is on EN instead of the Commons. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:18, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

OK JoJan (talk) 10:27, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Dear JoJan,

I would like to use your photograph of the stained glass window of St. Bernard in the Pisa baptistery in an article to be published in the scholarly journal (non-profit) Journal of Glass Studies. I see that you have given the rights to publish on the Wikipedia site, but could you also give me a written permission to publish your image? I am new to all of this! I am wondering how to give you proper credit for the image?

Thanks
