What on earth would be the point of that? The only thing you'll accomplish is makig it 400 times harder to localise these pages' description (e.g. translate). Please don't. Jon Harald Søby 05:11, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

The reason is that personalised licenses are discouraged and after the last discussion on the village pump it was decided that if used they should be substed. The reason for this is that it otherwise becomes impossible to trace any change in licenses etc.. Another reason, the reason why I noticed in the first place, is that one cannot make any sensible edits/changes to the image pages. For instance the map of Lund linked (and was placed in the category of) the swedish municipality Lund, and only by substing the template was it possible to correct this.

If one want's to ad on a translation at a later point it's not that hard to do that using a bot. If you wish to keep track of the images for personal reasons then I'd recomend adding a personalised category to the images (via the template before it's substed). /Lokal _Profil 10:46, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

This isn't intended as a personal template, it is intended as a practical way of unifying the pages for these maps. I will never change the license (AFAIK, I'm not entitled to when I've already released it to the public domain), so that's not an issue. I made some changes to the Lund page, so that is is correct now. I believe that is the only case where this would occur ever. The problem is twofolded. Firstly even though I trust that you won't change you're license (and I know you can't legaly) if you (or anyone else) changes it in the template then it automatically changes on all the images without it being noticed in the image history. it's for this reason that the decission was taken to always subst personal license templates.

The second less critical problem is that it simply makes any edit to the image pages a lot harder for the less wiki savvy. /Lokal _Profil 23:04, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

...and apparently that substing did not happen. There's a problem with categorisation here as well, I've manually substed some Norwegian municipalities where the proper category name was Rana, Norway instead of Rana and such, but still all munic. are stuck in Category:maps of FYLKE along with Elisabethtds .png locatormaps. That leaves categories like Maps of Nordland overcrowded and not very helpful for practical purposes, even after I moved the png maps to Category:PNG Locator maps of municipalities in Nordland using cat-a-lot. Could you consider editing User:Jon Harald Søby/Kartlisens so that these locatormap go into a separate subcat? Finn Rindahl 21:30, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Jon Harald, I see you updated the Swedish language shading the Sami-speaking areas of Lapland as well as the Swedish-speaking parts of Finland. That's better than the previous map, but there remain some points about this map: First of all, Aland is unilingually Swedish, so there's no need to mark it in shaded coulours. On the other hand, what about the Finnish-speaking areas in Tornedalen? I don't know if Meänkieli has an official status there, but de facto those areas are certainly not unilingually Swedish. And marking a dot near Tampere in central Finland seems quite incorrect, since that area is nowhere near Swedish-speaking. Best regards, --BishkekRocks 19:41, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Tillatelsen for dette bildet er problematisk. Det er OTRS Ticket#: 2007033010018121 som Image:Bianca Press Pic.jpg refererer til, men den nevner ikke noen lisens. Det er kun User:RadioKirk som sier at «Licensing will be the same as for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:BR_Studio.jpg». Image:BR_Studio.jpg viser til OTRS Ticket#: 2006112510014228, der RadioKirk ber om et bilde der foreldrene til Bianca er «willing to release all rights worldwide». Jeanette Ryan sender da en e-post med bilder til RadioKirk der hun sier «Hi Kirk, Hope these will do».

Funny, I didn't realize that other people created other versions templates (apart me). That's a good news since it can be considered as a proof of success, but now we have to deal with two close but different standards (Template:Other_versions/Easter_Island_map and Template:Other versions/Homer world map).

Your arguments are good sense but in fact, I always thought that above, below, left or right, the little plus/minus was a mistake... not flashy enough. Perhaps should we consider a more significative way to notify the user that other versions are centralized in a subtemplate? Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 19:19, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

I was just about to say that using +/- is best because it is most neutral, language-wise. But then I did a test, and it turns out that {{int:...}} is turned on here (perhaps even universally). That means that when I write {{int:Edit}}, it will show up as Rediger for me, Modifier for you, and سمادول for a Pashto user. That will be a lot more visible, and probably very familiar to users as well (much more so than +/-). About placement, I think that it then might be best to have it above the gallery, to the right, just like the edit button for sections. I'll make an example on Template:Other versions/Märket plain.
