Hello, Kim Traynor!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Rotation[edit]

Hallo Kim Traynor, you had requested rotation by the wrong 90° at http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Edinburgh_Burns_Monument.jpg&action=history - please just use RotateLink to request rotation instead of placing the rotate template manually. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:50, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

This message was added automatically by Nikbot, if you need some help about it please read the text above again and follow the links in it, if you still need help ask at the ? Commons:Help desk in any language you like to use. --Nikbot 01:36, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

File:Marochetti's Wellington at Waterloo.JPG[edit]

Hi Kim, I have manually renamed it, as per your request. What is missing from the description is the name of the sculptor and the date of creation or installation. Could you please add this. --Túrelio (talk) 08:25, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Scanning doesn't make you the author. Besides, the photo is likely still copyrighted, as the photographer obviously didn't die immediately after shooting this photo. --Túrelio (talk) 13:01, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Leith image[edit]

Hello Kim! Thank you for your kind remarks re this "lucky shot". It just happened that the weather was clear as we approached Edinburgh on a flight from Manchester. Glad you like it. I think that it is best if you decide whether to transpose or not - best coming from a detached viewpoint such as yours! Happy to go along with your decision! Best wishes RuthAS (talk) 15:40, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:McEwan's Beer advert 1906.JPG, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.

If you created the content yourself, enter own as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, GFDL or Cc-zero to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

This image is clearly not your "own work". Unless you know the source and author of it, you don't know the copyright status.Vclaw (talk) 16:00, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

You can not claim you are the "author" of that image when you are clearly not. You need to know the copyright status, otherwise it will be deleted as a copyright infringement. --Vclaw (talk) 17:02, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Thank you. Edinburgh Trams[edit]

Hello! I noticed, while cleaning up the Edinburgh Trams article on Wikipedia a while ago, and raising it to good article status, that you had taken most of our pictures of the tram works. As the tramway is nearing completion, I've been looking for newer pictures to update the article with, as the present ones are quite outdated. I was wondering if perhaps you'd be interesting in taking some newer pictures to use in the article. It would be a great help. Thanks. RGloucester (talk) 17:25, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks very much for your reply. I never knew about that website. It will make finding some good pictures much easier, as I also needed some of the Haymarket station renovation. I'll be looking forward to your pictures as the trams come into service. Shouldn't be long now, I hope. RGloucester (talk) 18:14, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
