i informed all of the authors and their reply to me was simply to use the image and change the license. "ok you may upload it pls recognize me as the author thanks" rodrobles. "I also have a Wikipedia account so I had the photo uploaded using my username. Feel free to use the image in any related Wikipedia article" crazyangelblue. "Regarding the picture of the Naga cathedral, I am honored by your choice of my picture. Feel free to use it for your needs... Hi. Thank you for the welcome message. One image needs a rename for which I have used {{bad name}} template. It showed a delete request on the page. I am assuming the admin will be doing a correct move, as the target name does not exist. Rename from Image:சுபபந்துவராளிShubhapanthuvarali_scale_Tamil.svg to Image:சுபபந்துவராளி.svg. I am also planning to request 6 on renames where the uploaded name is in English, but preferred will be in Tamil. I think that will be best, as they are specifically in Tamil. For example, the pics from Virgin Tour, Re-Invention Tour and Confessions Tour were taken by other Madonna fans, which are my friends and let me upload them. Do you think one rememberes what camera did he had years ago? - regarding the Viring Tour. And I don't know what camera did I use for the Kylie, Juanes, etc pictures since I've borrowed from a friend of mine. Just wait a couple of days until I find out what camera does he have. This gallery I created yesterday has been marked for delete by bot User:Sz-iwbot. The reason stated is that there is no image file! There are 72 images in this gallery. Înainte de a trimite un fisier poţi schimba numele imagini. Dacă numele imagini nu este bun, sau din oricare alt motiv vrei să-l schimbi foloseşte formatul: {{rename|aici scrie numele nou}}. In the image Image:Bouchard.gif I have replaced the tag with "no source" because the image description does not provide source information to justify the portrait being public domain. Don't get confused, the years provided are not the author's lifetime but the lifetime of Hipólito Bouchard himself. It is the author, not the man despicted in the portrait, the one who must have died 70 years ago or more; and the image description does not even mention who is the author. For what we know, the portrait could have been made 10 years ago by a still living man.

Perhaps, if we investigate the image and finally locate the author, we may find that it was public domain anyway. But we may also find that it wasn't. And, when we have not enough nformation to verify either thing, the Precautionary principle applies and the image gets deleted (wich does not stop it from being re-uploaded in the case such PD informaton finally appears) Belgrano (talk) 12:13, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Good day, Kimse. I'd like to just leave you a note that open proxies aren't always open proxies, they tend to change. Some change in days unlikely but possible. Usually they tend to stay up to some months, 1 year or longer so please don't block them indefinite. However a webhost usually stays longer. As a last note, it isn't much open proxy abuse here and there are good contribs from these so please only block abusive open proxies if you would. If you have any questions feel free to ask! Just to say that I was coming to say the same thing. Commons do not block IPs on an indef basis (last time I looked there had been three in the past 4/5 months) - the internet is changeable & getting a block removed is about impossible. --Herby ^{talk thyme} 16:42, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I see, thanks for the info. I was thinking in terms of "preemptive block," but I guess Bush Doctrine has many flaws. What's the best way of dealing with the above mentioned open proxies; should they rather stay unblocked as long as they're not used for vandalism? --Kimsə (talk) 01:23, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Solely my own views :) (& they didn't start this way!).

The internet is a changing place - IPs get reallocated over time, the Meta "unblock open proxy" page is basically ignored from what I've seen.

I now feel that unless there is abuse blocking an IP is maybe unnecessary - quite a few decent edits come from Open Proxies and in some parts of the world they are almost essential. If there is abuse then block by all means (& quite a bit of abuse comes via CU list/evidence etc).

As to length - folk vary. A year is fine (they can always be blocked again after that time), so is two years to me. I know others would go for five years, personally I think that is quite a long time - I've worked on wiki for half that & it feels like a very long time :). Hi Kimse, You have deleted an image I posted of Ahmed Abdallah Sambi, the President of Comoros. Why? I took that picture on the streets in Comoros, and self-made pictures of "public figures" are explicitly allowed by Wikipedia. As President of a country, Sambi definitely is a public figure. If anything, it would be up to the person in question, or his political party, or the Comorian Government, to contest an infringement of any portrait or copyright, and in such case, I would of course remove the picture. But to see it removed by a third person (with all due respect) seems a bit overzealous to me, espcially, since I already said, it's a picture of a public figure. Kind Regards, Loranchet
