Black cat 2.svg

I just wanted to let you know. You have two options, nominating an image for deletion (used if you are unsure if it should be deleted or not) or speedy delete (if you are sure it is a copyvio). In this case you speedied it and I (As the deleting admin) wasn't sure, so I converted it over the a DR. So, you did everything correctly. Thanks! --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 01:38, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Lilyu,

In the "No Change" section of the 2008 Suffrage Poll, it appears you cast a "support" vote that accidentally wound up in the column opposed to "No Change". Accordingly, I have moved your vote up into the section supporting "No Change". I apologize in advance if this is an error, please feel free to correct it. have you ever read COM:DW?[edit]

"Legally, most toys are art. It is the same thing whether you take a picture of a sculpture or a picture of Darth Vader. Both are copyrighted, in both cases, the copyright of the photograph does not void the original copyright, and in both cases you will need the permission of the original creator. You cannot upload pictures of a sculpture by Picasso, you can't upload photographs of Mickey Mouse or Pokemon figures. Numerous lawsuits have shown that Mickey Mouse or Asterix have to be treated as works of art, which means they are subject to copyright, while a common spoon or a table are not works of art. They can be copyrighted, perhaps, if they were given a very special form by a designer, but the ones you use at home are probably not."

Objects with utilitarian functions that are not toys are not copyrightable though. But, amusement and entertainment in most cases does not count. ViperSnake151 (talk) 11:26, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Eloy Erentxun photograph[edit]

Hey! I don't know much about licenses, I only chose the one that thought was appropriate. The fact is that the photograph I uploaded is not under Copyright or any other type of license, as it is a personal photo of my family's: the person that is in it, the basque painter Eloy Erentxun, was my grandfather. So now, I don't really know what to do in order to keep the photograph from being removed... I would really appreciate your advice!

Image[edit]

It wasn't simply a pd-art image (as it was in the description), only a "pd-italy" that is not allowed here in commons (in it.wiki it is). So I deleted it :-) --Filnik\b[Rr]ock\b!? 18:39, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

images maroc 1912[edit]

Cordialement, Lilyu (talk) 14:58, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Bonsoir,

It's a joke! Je vais indiquer Denis Dalbiez. Quel type de licence dois-je indiquer? Cordialement. Dominique DALBIEZ

Cordialement. ~ bayo or talk 15:03, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi. (I am surprised to see that there is a different spelling for Mississippi in French!) Live feeding[edit]

Hello, This is a simple deduction: there is no originality, therefore no copyright. It is the same for any automatic video system, like video monitoring. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:41, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Your thread of "disrupting contribution" won't end up anywhere. Two contributors (even 3, if I count MGA73) supported my view. Your opinion isn't any more guess work than any others. There is ample evidence that a live feed doesn't create any new original work. And finally, in matter of copyright, you have to remember that the proof is on the prosecutor. Your insistance for deletion in this case disrupts the project, and brings unnecessary conflict. Yann (talk) 12:09, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
I had some more thoughts about this case. Actually there are three reasons why there is no copyright here. For the existence of copyright, there needs (at least) three things: originality, fixation (it needs to be recorded in some permanent form), and author. As I said above, there is no originality in a live feed, it is automatic, there is no fixation, no recording, and last, there is no author. The set up of the camera can be done by any minded people, but it doesn't entitle anyone to a copyright. I added this to the DR for the record. Yann (talk) 19:08, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
I think you have mixed up several things in this issue: the copyright of the photographer is independent from the would-be copyright of a cameraman. Yann (talk) 09:40, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

i know, i know. It's from 19th century, it's on congress library where it was labeled "no copyright known" when i saw it. I thinkt hey have changed the page from when i have read it when i uploaded it. It's at least {{PD-US}} (US work released before 1 january 1923). But i'm not sure what template licence would be the most correct. --Lilyu (talk) 16:21, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

gPotato screenshot[edit]

chère Lilyu. Just curious why you put the gPotato screenshot draft page image I am working on as up for speedy deletion? http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Mtstaffa&diff=0&oldid=56011397

I am in charge of branding at Gala Inc. (based in Tokyo Japan) and I uploaded the screenshot from the portal site (gpotato.com) of the subsidiary my company owns (Gala-Net Inc.) We would like to have a similar game portal page layout as Hangame http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangame Hangame. So, can you remove the speedy deletion for the two gPotato screenshots please? Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mtstaffa (talk • contribs)

unnecessary warning[edit]

The warning that you placed on my page of discussion of Wikimedia Commons was innesesaria and wrong, because I did send a permission message to the Wikimedia Commons in which I indicated the permission that the original author of the picture gave me for upload the photo to Wikipedia.

I had previously upload the same photo to wikimedia, but in this case I had not sent the message permission to climb it to wikimedia commons and the photo was removed. This time the situation is very different. Please, remove the template warning about the removal of the photo for "not have" permission to upload the same. In fact, after reading your warning I sent a second message on the author's permission if the first had arrived. Thank you. --Isinbill (talk) 15:16, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks to remove the template of Pelinor.--Isinbill (talk) 12:38, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
I was referring to the template to mark the file for fast deleted. Without wanting I put "please" when I wanted to say thanks. But I corrected the error.--Isinbill (talk) 16:27, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
I wonder if there is a problem for that the permissions to upload photos to Wikimedia OTRS permission are receive for they. I think there must be some problem.

Ben.mq mentioned that you'd discussed File:BU West sign.JPG with him on IRC, and that you believe it meets threshold of originality. I don't, hence why I decided to upload it and a cropped version. File:Château de Trencsén.jpg[edit]

Bonjour,

--FreCha (talk) 03:25, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

This user has edited their page but not responded. I am sure some images are not "moi" as the author but - if you have any suggestions at all? Merci, amicalement --Herby talk thyme 09:51, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

As to not being an admin you have quite a few more edits than many have (and more than I had when I started with the tools...:)).
Anyway - I've deleted the Russian contribs thanks , I see he is blocked there so it seems possible he will not get the message but we will see.
On the French user it is a pity they are not responding (I see they have the same page on fr wp - I think it was deleted once but maybe not). Given their apparent record shooting they might justify a wikipedia page I guess but it does seem that they are using the project for their own benefit not ours which is the issue for me. I will delete the obvious copyvio and maybe give it a day or two and see if they respond then. My thanks for the assistance - merci & amicalement --Herby talk thyme 12:18, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Hum - not actually blocked on fr wp yet I see (though warned twice). If they do not respond within 48 hours I think I will delete the page (per fr wp). I may ask you to post something after that maybe. Merci encore :) --Herby talk thyme 12:53, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

I deleted the page and there does not seem to have been a response which is sad. My thanks for your help in this anyway and your other work on Commons. Regards --Herby talk thyme 18:18, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks![edit]

Thanks for your reply, I guess I think this should be a little more User Friendly to be of help to anyone! I try to follow the long drawn out process, but it just leads to more long drawn out processes and I don't have a lot of time to even get frustrated with that. I first thought about the filenames, but since there was no requirement stated, I just used the meaningless ones cause it's quicker. When I get a chance, I'll go back and redo it all and try again to get my photos from Flicker to my account here. But there's also the fact that the Gallery doesn't work, so other services don't have that problem and people can automatically go to your Gallery and see your Pictures. I guess that's really not the main focus here, but it doesn't hurt to have the things functioning that work for other sites doing the same Media! Thanks again for your help!

Aide moi svp?[edit]

If you are available could you assist here. The user has reuploaded previously un watermarked images with a watermark that says "all rights reserved". I guess it is likely they are the photographer but they will need to confirm that and removed the watermark. Merci beaucoup, amicalement --Herby talk thyme 12:44, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

there are two accounts : Rainbow0413 (talk · contribs) and Vanille0413 (talk · contribs)... Probably the same person, it's a real mess. I highly disagree with speedy tagging those images and get them deleted without any talk, like it was done on File:Chapelle Notre Dame de la Roque - Villeneuve (04).JPG. There is nothing obvious here.
Removed the watermark ? i'm sorry, but can't you just revert the upload of the watermarked version... why reuploading ?
I think those images should not be speedydelete but rather put into a mass DR, as it is not an obvious case.
What i understand from copyright laws is that the "all rights reserved" sentence has no longer any legal meaning, and i doubt it ever had one in France. "Copyright @blablabla All right reserved" is a claim of copyright holding, but it DO NOT means the work was not published with licenses etc, it's just a claim that someones hold copyright rights over a work of art. When publishing a a work with a free license, the author/copyright holder keep his rights... he just ALSO share some of his rights to other peoples, while still keeping his rights and the right to use them... unless an exclusivity clause was part of the contract.
This user also asked his photos to be deleted and his account closed. My opinion is that both of this actions cannot be done by a commons' admin. GFDL and CC BY SA licenses used by this user are irrevocable, although the french law allows a french author to retract from publishing,
Art.
"Notwithstanding the transfer of his right of exploitation, the author, even after the publication of his work, has a right to repent (reconsider) or retract regarding the assignee. However, he can exercise this right only if he take the charge to indemnify the assignee beforehand for any prejudice the reconsideration or withdrawal may cause to him. When, after the exercise of his right to reconsider or withdraw, the author decides to publish his work, he must offer in priority his exploitation rights to the assignee he originally chose and with the conditions originally determined."
I would probably inform this user that he can only get his account renamed, but not deleted, due to technical problems, and that if he wants to retract from publishing, he has to directly get in contact with the WMF and offer them proper indemnification, the WMF would than chose to remove the content from its website OR chose to fight his decision (with FSF and Creative Commons) to get a law case concerning the free licensing... probably on US copyright ground.
I'm not a lawyer, this is just my uninformed opinion, please contact a lawyer to get legal informations. --Lilyu (talk) 14:10, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Thoughts appreciated (again!).
I agree - freely licensed is just that and we cannot delete his account (he has a previous one too if you look at the images). He could start a DR asking to have them deleted - it has worked out sometimes when people do that.
Could you post something on his page explaining the situation when you have the time? Merci encore :) --Herby talk thyme 14:44, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
i posted to his talk page what you previously asked : "confirmation that there's a single person behind the two account, that he's author, and to contact OTRS".
I also a added a little message to User talk:Túrelio who i saw deleting one of the images.
I think you should remove your copyvio tags, try to start a talk with the user (i would be glad to translate), and either open a mass DR in a few days, or choose to tell him to see directly with WMF.--Lilyu (talk) 14:53, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Sorry too late - they have gone - I will be happy to undelete them though if we can get some clarifications? --Herby talk thyme 15:17, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Catching up with things quickly but very useful work and many thanks. Hopefully we can get a good outcome to this. Will look more later, amicalement --Herby talk thyme 08:35, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
yeah, i translated in english for you to check the conversation (or the admins when i'll ask to undelete). I'm waiting for a last reply from this user, but i think we will be able to end it in a good way for everyone.--Lilyu (talk) 08:37, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
I've undeleted them (I'm sure Turelio will not mind) as I was probably too hasty tagging them in the first place - please apologise to the user for me (although it was with the intention of protecting their copyright. It would be good to lose the watermark too as it will save others doing as I did if you can ask?
Again many thanks for your help - you are an asset to Commons. It might be useful one day if you felt like using additional tools here ;) Amicalement --Herby talk thyme 11:16, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
I warned the user the images were restored. Did you check there's only 2 images still deleted (2 accounts)? Would they be useful for an encyclopedia, did you checked they are not used somewhere on the web (googleimage/tinyeye), and do you think it would worth annoy this user to get the 2 last ones restored ?
I didn't apologize for you to this user, there's really no reason to do so Lilyu - smile.svg Don't worry.--Lilyu (talk) 11:30, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Good point - two more undeleted :) --Herby talk thyme 11:51, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
You are going too quick, i thought you had read the talk page of this user and saw that we agreed on restoring 3 images and keep 2 of them deleted, as i also explained on Turelio's talk page. My question was to check if there was not MORE than 5 files concerned. Also, i can see now that the 2 last photos that the author would like to keep deleted are used on many different wikipedias. Do you think we should try to convince to keep those two online ? Or do you re-delete them to comply to his request ?
*sigh* Don't be so fast. I translated, read. It's 2 am here, and i thought this was finally finish and i could go to sleep...--Lilyu (talk) 12:05, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

About "File:Ramanujacharya.jpg" source information.[edit]

This file [7] was uploaded by me, a few weeks back. The individual portrayed in the picture is a saintly figure, who is an icon of worship, for my group of people. While placing orders to print my marriage invitation, I had requested the "marriage card printers" to include an image of "Ramanuja(a godly figure) seen with vadakalai tilak markings", in the back page of the invitation(it is a custom amongst us). Also, i had requested them for a copy of the same, burnt in a CD. I had personally given the description for the image, as to how it is supposed to be, and they designed it exclusively for "printing it in my marriage invitation". Henceforth i got it, and uploaded it here. The work is not found anywhere in the internet, and i had claimed it to be "my own work". It is indeed "own work". Also, it just a sketch/painting/animation image. What is wrong with it?? Please enlighten. Also the page was vandalised by some new user/ips who made some dubious claims and made, egregious edits to the file information. I had nothing to do with it. your turtle[edit]

Dear Lilyu

I saw your turtle on commons and find it beautiful. Now I would like to use this turtle a little bit modified as a logo and on a homepage for a disaster folding house after catastrophies. Therefor it should be a little modified. Are you able and willing to do that and what do you take for it? We can phone on skype or you can contact me at Thanks in advance Gerhard
