TUSC token fdc51fc9368e3f7b454a25e2c7cd91d0

I am now proud owner of a TUSC account!

-- ΠЄΡΉΛΙΟ 23:04, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

✓ Done Sorry, scheint irgendwie ein generelles Problem gewesen zu sein, jetzt gehts wieder ohne bewust etwas geändert zu haben. -- ΠЄΡΉΛΙΟ 15:04, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

Quotes in filenames

Hi. Seems like Cropbot doesn't handle files with quotes in the filenames, just tried cropping File:August_Oddvar_som_Paul_Parisot_i_"Brændende_Jord"_(1924).jpg. – Danmichaelo (δ) 23:20, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

DeriativeFX problem

There seems to be a problem with the license recognition for DeriativeFX. It doesn't appear to recognize the license for the Census Bureau. - Presidentman (talk · contribs) Wikipedia Random Picture of the Day 22:34, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

One more

I got this:

Sorry, your images can't be merged!

The licenses are incompatible or the licenses can't be detected. See above for all license tags the tool found for this images:

  1. Unknown templates
  2. no known license found for this image!

However, both images are tagged with {{PD-old}}… -- Tuválkin 17:41, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Steve Zacchia

Wikimedia received an email stating that File:Steve Zacchia of Hope Racing's Oreca Swiss HY Tech Hybrid (cropped).jpg is not Steve Zacchia.

A replacement photo was provided, which I will process, but wanted to let you know, if you were the original uploader.--Sphilbrick (talk) 13:16, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

I'm informed that the image is really of Casper Elgaard, and a photo is needed for the article about him, so perhaps the image can be renamed.--Sphilbrick (talk) 13:30, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Problems with Firefox 16?

Was working fine in February, but now in March, it stopped recognizing me as being logged in. Works fine on another browser. Weird. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 05:44, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Possibility of batches ?

Hi luxo, could you cast your eyes on Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Microtoerisme#Files_uploaded_by_Microtoerisme_.28talk_.C2.B7_contribs.29; a batch removal of the bottom lines would be extremely helpful. Thank you. --Foroa (talk) 07:47, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

More problems with Derivative FX

I'm sure you know this already but something's wrong with DFX. I tried to upload a derivative of File:PIA16874-CobeWmapPlanckComparison-20130321.jpg and couldn't get past the first screen. But it's a great tool when it works, and for that I'm thankful. I'm using IE9/Win7, by the way. Oh, and please note that license, with an 's', is a verb (as in 'licensed restaurant') and licence, with a 'c', is a noun (as in 'driving licence'). Regards, nagualdesign (talk) 02:29, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

And here I thought I was going crazy or something! I am not sure how the tool is supposed to work since I've never used it before, but I'm pretty sure it is not doing what it is supposed to. I can get past the "Ok - I'm logged in" check, but once I do, all I get is a text form with the text "File:" in it, and the text "License of this file: please add name". No links, no nothing. All I have is a button saying "Add more original files" which only gives another pair of the same nonfunctional upload items, and a disabled button labeled "Ok - next". Entering text on the form does nothing. I have Firefox 15 (I'm not sure if it might be an issue, being an older version and all), I'm on Ubuntu 12.04, and I have NoScript with authorization to execute scripts from both and I hope this helps! - Ana Sofia Paixão (talk) 22:17, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Has it stopped? No changes for a couple days now. 18:04, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

thanks, hes back to work!--Luxo 21:01, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Hallo Luxo. Nachdem der Rotatebot mal ein paar Stunden nicht lief, merkte man gleich, was hier fehlt. Mit anderen Worten: an dieser Stelle mal vielen dank für diesen tollen Service! Marcus Cyron (talk) 02:24, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

CropBot redirecting to HTTPS

Hi, I'm using CropBot (wonderful tool !) and Commons using HTTPS ; when CropBot has finished cropping and refreshing the thumbnail, I'm redirected to the simple HTTP commons page of the picture. Could you re-enable (I think it worked earlier) the HTTPS redirection ? Thanks. JeanBono (talk) 12:24, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Issue with derivativeFX

FYI, I attempted to upload a derivative of File:Jeff Galloway 2.JPG - derivativeFX reports "no valid license found", though the file is tagged with {{PD-USGov-Military-Air Force}}. Kelly (talk) 16:19, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

If I may add, I've never been able to use dfx, I've always 'bounced off' it's counter-intuitive interface entirely, I appreciate your effort with the useful important tool, but it makes my skin crawl to even think of using it now. The first and foremost problem is it confuses every image. If you label something by saying 'please enter the name of the image that has pixels in it' and then have another label 'please enter the name of the image that has resolution' and 'please enter the name of the image meant to be viewed' you see how that is confusing ? That is exactly the problem it creates where it says something like 'please enter the name of the original image' that's where I leave entirely and for good and always have. I don't like to even think of it. (please put any reply on my tp) Penyulap 03:56, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

DerivativeFX question:

I just used/(attempted to use?) DerivativeFX for the first time.

Is there typically a significant delay before the new file posts to Commons?

I was/(did?) upload File:CatedralDePalencia-(arch_crop_xmple-01).png as a derivative of File:CatedralDePalencia20100118211516SAM 2513.jpg.

I just discovered DerivativeFX (it was mentioned by another editor) and was rather thrilled to have done so as I'd previously speculated that 'there oughta' be a way' to automate derivative uploads. I'm very pleased to see that you've chosen to give it your attention.

Thank you, --Kevjonesin (talk) 13:54, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Ah, I think I had misunderstood how the tool was intended to function as when I went to manually do a basic upload of my derivative file the info text from my DerivativeFX attempt was added automatically to the text field.
Is it safe to assume at this point that the function of the tool is to add info text to files which have been uploaded via other means? Rather than to generate info and facilitate uploading in one step?
Is there an instruction/man page somewhere? If not I'm willing to help write one.

How to get password reminder for TUSC / Cropbot

Hi, it seems that I forgot my password for TUSC / cropbot. Unfortunately, there is no obvious way to get a password reminder. So I generated a new password on TUSC which was possible without problem. However, this new password wouldn't work with Cropbot, as Cropbot seems to ask for the old password. - Is there a way out of this? --Beat Estermann (talk) 10:39, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, cropbot checks your TUSC password only once (first login), then it's saved in it's own user table. So I have deleted your entry in the cropbot-DB, now you can login with your TUSC password again. Greetings, --Luxo 12:09, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Hey Luxo, it would appear that Cropbot is no longer working, the same error as above has been received by me for the last week. Just pinging you in the hope we can get this fantastic, and necessary, tool fixed. russavia (talk) 04:45, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Its actually a very important tool and its a shame LUXO has to be around for that tool to be started, maybe he can pass the option to other commons admins as well..--Stemoc (talk) 02:42, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

User:Rotatebot has been stopped for a week. Hope you get back and can get it running again! If possible, it would be nice to have another admin with the capability of restarting the bot in case it happens again. Thanks! --Esprqii (talk) 22:42, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Cropbot's stopped working

Hi Luxo, Cropbot has stopped working since 19 August. It goes through the entire process ok, even saying "Thanks for using Cropbot" once the upload is done, but the upload isn't made. Could you see what the issue is on this? If you want a file to test it on, File:Champlain Canal - Dam (7238190882).jpg might be a good one -- it's thanked me 3 times now, but no upload. Cheers, russavia (talk) 07:47, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

yep similar problem..looks like his bot foes into problems atleast once every month..--Stemoc (talk) 12:58, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Same problem. Perhaps this has to do with the move to https? I get the following error: warning: file_get_contents( failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found in /home/luxo/public_html/cropbot/upload.php on line 106 (δ) 22:11, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Dear Luxo, I'm trying to upload other language version of File:Graham's Hierarchy of Disagreement1.svg with derivativeFX, but it says that "No valid license found!" How could I fix this? Should I add some additional license template to File:Graham's Hierarchy of Disagreement1.svg? Thanks, --Olexa Riznyk (talk) 19:23, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Dear Luxo/Archive2013. I am writing to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section/Aug-Sep 2013 within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Thank you – Kwj2772 (msg) 08:03, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Toolserver Derivative FX

On Commons can not conclude the loading of images derived from File Commons as the Toolserver Derivative FX, the last stage of loading the image does not transfer to Commons previously stored data. Do you know if there are problems? Thank you. --Massimo Telò (scrivimi) 20:53, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Luxo, I've seen that you were busy to fix Cropbot, and you did it in just few hours. Please take care about this tool too, because it's essential to speedup our daily work. Thanks a lot, --Andyrom75 (talk) 09:16, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, it's a pain when Derivative FX doesn't work. Your help would be most appreciated. Schwede66 06:02, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
the problem of this tool is, that it isn't possible to get it back to work like it worked at the beginning. Uploads from an other form than the original is not possible anymore (because of security reasons). It should be made completely new with javascript, but that takes a lot of time.--Luxo 12:58, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Dear Luxo, I used many times your tool (and thanked you the same number of times in my mind), I just would suggest a workaround that helped me last few derivative uploads and it could help you to fix the tool to a (fast?) temporary release. While on the last page of the process, I selected/copy the whole text content and then pasted it in the old traditional upload form (Special:Upload&uploadformstyle=basic). So if you stop the process just in that point and pop a message box telling to the user "copy/paste by old form", many people could still have benefits from the first phase of the process. -- Fulvio 314 13:43, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
I was planning a DerivativeJS some months ago, and still have some code; I'll try something... --Ricordisamoa 04:06, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Your tool was so useful, it's a pitty it doesn't work anymore. Can we expect to have it back soon ? Or is it hopeless... Thanks for any notification concerning the updates.--LPLT (talk) 16:06, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Cropbot problem

Hello! While using Cropbot, i keep getting this message...
Zeichen 101.svg Can't connect the database. User 'luxo' has exceeded the 'max_user_connections' resource (current value: 15)
What does that mean? I though i should tell you in case you are unaware of it. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:33, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Same issue here Luxo. Cheers, russavia (talk) 21:53, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Also same error message, can't login to Cropbot, or if you can, you can't use it, it craps out after the login screen! Oaktree b (talk) 01:18, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
Toolserver seems to be overloaded. All my tools together have just a limited number of connections. So if a lot of users uses guc (which is really slow at the moment), it's possible that there is no connection free for cropbot. Sometimes it works. Greetings,--Luxo (talk) 12:21, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
Create an alternate toolserver account, say Luxo 2.0 and run cropbot from there..I know the toolserver admins will gladly accept the request, the guc tool does get a lot of "server loads" .--Stemoc (talk) 12:32, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
guc and Cropbot will be moved to soon. This will solve the problem.--Luxo (talk) 13:32, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
That may take months, some of the other useful tools like flickr2Commons have already moved to the new site a long time ago..Cropbot has now become impossible to use. Someone is hogging one of your other tools. even if by luck your bot works after 30-40 reloads/refreshes, it doesn't actually do anything, after you crop a picture, it then proceeds to "upload" and then within seconds claims to have it done and instead of uploading, redirects to your tools page.........--Stemoc (talk) 00:33, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Please fix cropbot as soon as possible--Fetx2002 (talk) 05:00, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
The is no problem with the bot, someone is hogging his server and is probably running 15 "instances" of one of his tools which prevents others from using his other tools. I wish i had a toolserver account so that i could run "Croppy" on my own limit..anyone here with a ts account willing to "copy" croppy to their server?.--Stemoc (talk) 05:32, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
  • I got that same error today also many times. Are other toolserver users aware of this? I will drop msgs to some of them. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 17:58, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
    • I tried asking them on IRC to move this tool to wmflabs but they wouldn't budge :\ I had to keep refreshing it for a whole hour before it worked for me last time ..--Stemoc (talk) 00:12, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Right now we are getting "User 'luxo' has exceeded the 'max_user_connections' resource (current value: 15)". You can ask a TS admin to increase that limit (via JIRA, otherwise they'll claim they never heard of it). I have moved most of my DB-intensive tools over to labs, so if they complain, tell them to take some of my connections. --Magnus Manske (talk) 11:20, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Who would a TS admin be? Toolserver users are not even categorized unlike Category:Commons OTRS volunteers or Category:Commons reviewers are. Where can i find these admins? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 18:20, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
One of these people. The thing is that the admins have moved a lot of tools over to their new database, most are somewhat useless and they ignored one of the most useful tools, another user came up with an alternate, but its not working that great, if at all...and that non-working tool is on the new wmflabs and not luxo's cropbot..don't bother asking on IRC, they seem to have a 'vow of silence' there haha...--Stemoc (talk) 23:42, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for that. Have dropped some msgs. (Strangely, all admins i happened to click on were German. Had to anyways go and drop msgs in English on their de wikis.) §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 15:16, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Hello Dharmadhyaksha and all! You can reach the three admins at (They are: Daniel 'DaB.' Baur, Marlen Caemmerer aka 'nosy' and Alexander Mette aka 'mette') I pointed them to the problem you mentioned already. You might also find them on IRC in #wikimedia-toolserver (freenode). Silke WMDE (talk) 15:31, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

I struggled with some problems with enwiki yesterday and today. Everything should be back to normal. nosy

I had an experience with the derivateFX bot that made me quit it to be safe. It turned out the dFX wanted to create a new file, while I just wanted to add a note to an existing, update file (there were more already; my first dFX usage).

My intention: I cropped File:Liquid fluorine tighter crop.jpg and uploaded the new file manually old style. Two earlier file edits were listed formally, so I took the suggestion and opened the dFX to add my modification description. But the dFX dialogue only was aimed at adding a new file. That was confusing for me, even in the final overview screen. (example 1: it takes the description from the existing original {information} box. I did not know what {information} box is (the name invisible to the reader); I know where to find it, but still. Example 2: dFX asks for a filename (expects be a new one, for a green approval note. I could not find how to say: no, just a new upload. Example 3: The "retouched" question ("what did you retouche?") I did not see.

Related: Example 4: I could not open the existing file page to look up information. Example 5: Question I had under way: am I supposed to upload a derived file via dFX? And can I upload to an existing file, or is it new files only? How did the earlier modification notes get there?

Of course, if dFX is not intended for my intention, I am in the wrong place. But the page links dFX right below earlier modification notices. It could be that it is only a documentation (description of the bot) issue.

I get that the bot is very useful to document modifications seriously. That is Good! I could not do that without automated guidance. -DePiep (talk) 06:55, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
