https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Orchide&diff=111744063&oldid=87601832 - what is the problem? --Palnatoke (talk) 17:42, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

The problem is, you can't take the work of other people without their permission. Do you have the permission? If yes, you need to send them to the Support team. If not, it's a simple Copyright violation. It is not enough to say who made it, if the work was not under a free license. And "made by a photographer of the museum" or something like that is not a permission to take it and it is not a free license. Marcus Cyron (talk) 17:50, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
Unless 1) the museum has all rights, 2) the uploader acts on behalf of the museum. Unfortunately, I cannot see how the images were described, so I cannot help you here. We'll just have to put this in the "sorry, National Museum, we won't use the resources that you want to share" box. --Palnatoke (talk) 18:08, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
If the uploader act on behalf of the museum, he should show this. We can't guess. But I don't think that this is really so. The images were uploaded for the danish article about the ancient greek black-figure style. Copyrights are sadly nothing we can't play with. I am happy about every image here of ancient art. And some of the images were of so bad quality, that a museum at the end should and would not be happy with them on such a public place. Marcus Cyron (talk) 18:19, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

The Starks flashlight.jpeg needs to be canceled for deletion. I've corrected the date. I wasn't aware that someone would think the upload date was the same as the publication date in which the article states when that date was (May 29, 1946)....JeremeK (talk) 20:00, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Please - not this way! You gave NO date - how someone should know it? It also couls be an image from the 1980s! So this is a really big problem to upload files without a correct date! Marcus Cyron (talk) 20:28, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

I really would have expected you to know better - a random person on flickr does not have the right to release copyrighted leaflets. -mattbuck (Talk) 01:01, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Could you please tell me your problem? This was a category with much more than 100 images and I did not realized, there was 1 (!) that was not OK. But only minutes after uploading I saw the image and imedeatly had deleted. So - where is the problem? Are you free of mistakes? I am not. Marcus Cyron (talk) 01:48, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

No. This is for the texts. The images are not courtesy of the website - or show me where this is written. It's more, that already there is the first Copyvio. Marcus Cyron (talk) 16:50, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

File deleted before I could edit the source info

You deleted File:CC_BY_3.0_BR_Chomsky.jpg (sorry for the terrible name, that was a mistake) for a likely copyright violation. I was in the process of trying to properly indicate that it was extracted from File:Chomsky-head.jpg, which is already on Wikimedia. I don't seem to be able to upload a replacement. Could you undelete it? (And maybe change the file name to something useful, like "Noam Chomsky WSF - 2003 - cropped and black and white" or some such, and tell me the right way to credit the image?) Trey314159 (talk) 23:29, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Done. But please do what needed depending the license. Marcus Cyron (talk) 23:41, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

monobook.js

:-) --Dschwen (talk) 05:55, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Marcus Cyron (talk) 19:05, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Your last file moves

I'm sorry, you're not welcome to rename the following uploads the way you appear to have just done:

In case you have the technical tools to undo yourself in these four entries please do it promptly, if not, I'll need to seek such assistance from some administrator. Please do not repeat this kind of activity, unless requested by users seeking having their files renamed. Orrlingtalk 00:58, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Nonsense. Names without a usefull meaning have to be renamed. And when you want to talk to me, you use the next time an other tone! Marcus Cyron (talk) 01:17, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
I don't see where my tone here was incorrect given the fact that your rename activity onto the above files was highly inappropriate, but I had no bad intentions. with a nicer tone now, please avoid any such pattern of "renames" onto other editors' uploads because this is outside the permission of a file mover. The four filenames which you renamed were all valid and correct ones, so attempting to "rename" them is not agreed. Thank you for your cooperation and welcome on Wikimedia Commons. Orrlingtalk 01:27, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
I don't need you to agree a renaming. The meaningless naming your files is a bad joke and a slap in the face for all other employees of this project and the subsequent user of the images. In many cases, prevent use of the images - and then we do not need them. Names of files need to say something. You choose too often the easiest way. But to name a file "Nairobi" on which is to see Shoeshine in Nairobi simply don't get the point. Not just under 20 million images. You know how much images of Nairobi we have? Moreover, you should also check the categories of some of your images, there are images without cats. Also the descriptions of the files are sometimes unusable. Or why should it help someone to learn that you should not have expected would have to be on one roof alone? Show a little more respect - and use useful names for your images. Then they must also move Nobody else like me! Marcus Cyron (talk) 01:39, 22 December 2013 (UTC) PS: I'm not a File mover, I'm an Administrator!
I'm sorry but while we're talking you're keeping "renaming" more of my uploads, STOP THIS ACTIVITY. It is disruptive. You appear to have a funny sort of criticism toward my contributions, but none of my uploads is without categories and their names have nothing to do with respect ort disrespect to users, please stop your weird conduct damaging the media I've uploaded, thank you, Orrlingtalk 01:49, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Marcus, I would like to ask you why you decided that ther is copyvio in this picture. Can you restore it and change it to Deletion requests? Thanks Hanay (talk) 11:16, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I see only one possibility - you need to send your permission to the suppurt-team. Then the image can be restored without any deletion request. In the actual form it is in my opinion not possible. There's not much to discuss - we need the written permission. Marcus Cyron (talk) 12:09, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi, you're welcome! :) Marcus Cyron (talk) 01:50, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello Marcus. You deleted the above mentioned file, and honestly, I'm not quite sure about the reason. This is a picture from the Spanish Ministry of the Presidency allows the use of it for any purpose. There are maybe hundreds of pictures in Wikimedia Commons from this web. Why delete this one?. There is even a Template for them (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:PD-La_Moncloa_New). If your are right and all of there pictures are forbidden from Wikimedia, first thing to do is delete the template, because otherwise we users tend to think that there is legal support. Thak you! Cvbr (Talk)18:45, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi, was a mistake by me - I did not realized the license. I've restored the image. Marcus Cyron (talk) 17:57, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

Accent marks

I come accross this in my watchlist:

User:CommonsDelinker/commands‎; 18:39 . . (+181)‎ . . ‎Marcus Cyron (talk | contribs)‎ (universal replace: File:Expédition de La Pérouse.jpgFile:Expedition de La Perouse.jpg)

Why are you replacing a properly spelled filename with a botched one? -- Tuválkin 18:44, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

Because there was a request to do that: Category:Media requiring renaming. I have to trust, that such requests are correct. Marcus Cyron (talk) 18:49, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
On the contrary, rename requests end up in Category:Media requiring renaming because not all users are flagged to be file-movers and their renaming requests need to be evaluated by administrators such as you, not to be mindlessly approved. If you cannot ascertain that a proposed filename change follows the relevant guidelines, then leave it aside and let someone else either reject or implement it. In this case the renaming request should have been rejected as per reason #2 for such refusal; I will presently undo the damage you allowed. -- Tuválkin 01:44, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
I have read your opinion. When the Uploader asks some minutes after uploading, ofcourse I rename it, as long it is not Nonsense! Marcus Cyron (talk) 02:04, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
In French, *"Expedition de La Perouse" instead of "Expédition de La Pérouse" is the epitome of nonsense. Nonetheless, the accented filename was/is in use in a discussion page in w:fr, suggesting that the renaming request, even under renaming reason #1, was made in attempt to fix some technical glitch (new thumbnail not loading, I’d guess), under the misguided but reasonable idea that the accent marks were causing it. -- Tuválkin 03:20, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Kategorien

Hallo, Marcus.

Marcus Cyron (talk) 18:53, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
Danke dir!

Marcus Cyron (talk) 00:04, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Renaming

FWIW, "Univclub54" does not qualify as a "completely meaningless name" under renaming criterion #2, and you should not have renamed it. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:50, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

If you're looking for files to rename, look at all the images uploaded in the "Wikipedia Takes Manhattan" competitions, almost all of which are named "WTM (name of competitor) #x" or similarly, without any indication of what the subject of the photo is. Those are completely meaningless, "Univclub5" is an obvious abbreviation for "University Club 54th Street". Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:03, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
You don't think, the other name is better? I do! Marcus Cyron (talk) 00:03, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
I think the renaming was unnecessary, and that we shouldn't be usurping the choice of names made by the editors who upload the images unless there is a very good reason to do so. Jim Henderson, whose image it is, has uploaded many thousands of valuable images, and has more than earned the right to name his images the way he prefers to, as long as the name provides enough information and is not in some way inaccurate. Your usurping of that privilege without either clear necessity or, at the very least, discussion with the author was rude and uncollegial. As someone said above on this page, you shouldn't just be rubber-stamping re-naming requests without investigation, inquiry or judgment about whether it is necessary. Certainly, if you ever did it to one of my own images without discussing it first with me, your action would be brought to the noticeboards as an abuse of your filemover right. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:00, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
This is a collaborative project. Like articles also images can be changed. The title, the discription, Categories - and yes, also the name. This is what "free license" also means. To publish an image under a free License is to give it free! And we only allowed images that allow changes. Everybody has to accept, that changes can happen. And if an other title is better, we use ofcourse the better title. Where is the problem? Where? And I speak with the people in the way they come to me. And please don't speculate about my work - you know nothing about me and how I work! You say I should not be rude - but you tell these things here to me. What do you think who you are? Marcus Cyron (talk) 04:16, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
I think I am an editor telling you that you made a bad decision, as is my right. And if you do it again, I will tell you again in exactly the same way. I don't care if you're an admin or the Queen of Sheba, no one has to "accept" the result if you screw up. You're an admin, you serve us, the Commons community, if someone comes to you with a complaint, you should gracefully acknowledge it, and at least admit of the possibility that you were mistaken, not argue back and demand that I acquiesce to the result of your poor judgment.

As for my "speculating about your work", I don't have a clue what you're talking about, my complaint is specific' to this incident and I didn't "speculate" about anything else. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:28, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Help needed

Hallo, Marcus.

Hi.

Renaming trams

Somewhere else you were warned to focus your renaming zeal where it is obviously needed, and leave borderline cases untouched — that’s an advice you should probably heed. Concerning your recent renamings:

  • Tm uploaded File:DSC00961 (11569617173).jpg, I renamed it to File:CCFL579(tras.)@PComércio2013dez16.jpg, and then you come and changed that to File:Elécrico na Praça do Comércio (11569617173).jpg — and you call it «changing from meaningless name», while it was the opposite:
    • The spelling "elécrico" is wrong (Tm types too fast).
    • The number 11569617173 is truely meaningless (internal ID of Flickr); 579 is the fleet number of this tramway car.
    • There’s a lot of photos of trams in Praça do Comércio; the name I used identifies this as a photo showing the back of car 579 at that location on a given date — my name was more meaningful.
    • In the process of submitting his re-rename request, Tm removed {{rotate|359}} from the file page, without discussion. How did you overlook this?
  • Tm uploaded File:DSC00961 (11569617173).jpg, I renamed it to File:CCFL560descendo@StºAntºSé2013dez16.jpg, and then you come and changed that to File:Eléctrico na Rua de Augusto Rosa (11570184134).jpg — and you call it «changing from meaningless name», while it was the opposite:
    • "Eléctrico" is an obsolete spelling, no reason to use it in a 2013 photo.
    • The number 11570184134 is truely meaningless (internal ID of Flickr); 560 is the fleet number of this tramway car.
    • The name I used identifies the location better (going down by Igreja de Santo António da Sé) while the street name favoured by Tm is less exact as it is a much longer stretch of track on it.
    • You failed to remove from the filepage Tm’s misplaced renaming rationale («Also cryptic, confusing, no spaces in a meaningless name. Tm (talk) 02:54, 3 January 2014 (UTC)»)
    • Tm’s seems to be arguing that a filename must have spaces. That’s simply not so.

I find it problematic that Tm feels offended I dared to rename two of “his” files and needed to come immediately on my footsteps to change them to his liking, while hundereds of his uploads from Flickr remain in Commons with original filenames that consist (as these two did before I dared to touch them) of actually misleading random strings of numbers and letters — in direct disagreement with naming policies.

Tm should invest a fraction of the time he wasted on the needless re-renaming of these two files in better preparing of his mass uploads from Flickr — not only in changing meaningless names before uploading, but also in categorization that doesn’t mix different cities. In short, the last thing the project needs for Tm is to have other users, especially an admin, encouraging his mistakes and his pettiness.

(On a positive note, he might be granted file-mover rights — that would take you out of the loop.)

Aber ich bin eben keiner der Fachleute. Ansonsten auch dir ein frohes und gesundes 2014 :). Marcus Cyron (talk) 13:42, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Marcus Cyron (talk) 13:59, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Renaming of one building of Historical District

Hi Marcus: I saw you renamed only one building of en:Ferndale Main Street Historic District based on a request by User:Green Giant. This building [6] is part of an official historical district on the en:National Register of Historic Places. Buildings on the register have official names and are identified by street address. At present, except for this building you changed, the remainder of the district is identified by either official register name, or street address. Users of the National Register list expect to find the buildings identified either by official name or street address. "Former Odd-Fellows Hall" is not the official building name on the National Register. I am afraid that by acting on the renaming request in good faith, the actual meaning of the name has been made more useless, not better. What would you suggest at this point? I think the image should be named either back to its street address to match the rest of the project of "Main Streets" or it should have its official NRIS name ("Masonic-Odd Fellows Hall") instead of a made-up name that Green Giant thought was "better" and unfortunately is not. I'm sure everyone thought it was an improvement without considering the impact to the Wiki project. A quick glimpse at Category:Ferndale, California will show at a glance which buildings are part of the historical district, they're all listed by street address! I don't personally think that is useless when the historical register paperwork and all maps go by street address. With best wishes, and hoping for a reversion, I am sincerely yours, Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:19, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi Ellin, this is a deep, a normal user can't see through :). On the first view, the new name seems to be better, but your arguments are reasonable. I renamed it back, as you has suggested. Marcus Cyron (talk) 17:29, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:44, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Well, it wasn't a "made-up name" that I thought was "better"! It was because as an outsider, I was intrigued by the use of an address rather than a name. Here in the UK, I can think of very few buildings known by their address (the prime examples being "10 Downing Street", home of the UK Prime Minister and "221B Baker Street", home of Sherlock Holmes). I nominated one file in that group rather than a brash group nomination, because I didn't think the files were named carelessly and because it took time to research the background for the file. The logic I used was that building shown in the file isn't noted for being Number 425-431 Main Street, but for being a former Masonic and Odd Fellows building. The best source for information would be the National Register website but it doesn't seem to be working properly at the moment, so I based the proposed name on two other sources. First, the California Office of Historic Preservation website, where I found two relevant pages, namely this list of registered places in Humboldt County (where Ferndale is located, but there isn't a separate listing for the building in the image), and this search listing which shows that the other Odd Fellows Halls are listed by name rather than address. The second source was page 26 of this pdf from the City of Ferndale, which shows that such places are noted primarily by name, and secondarily by the address. I added the word "former" to indicate that it was no longer being used as such.
However, per Ellins suggestion, I think "Masonic-Odd Fellows Hall, Ferndale, CA.jpg" would be a logical name, and the same logic should be applied to the other related files. Alternatively, perhaps a separate category (e.g. Category:Ferndale Main Street Historic District) might be useful for uninformed people like me? Green Giant (talk) 19:18, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't think, it was a personal critic on your worst - you only did not knew it better. Together we can fix all. Marcus Cyron (talk) 23:35, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Middleham hoard renaming

Hi Marcus! Long time no speak - Frankfurt 2011 right? Thanks for fixing the Middleham hoard filename that I requested. I wondered whether it would be easier for you to directly fix the remaining files in the category according to the same pattern (including changing single digit terminations to doubles: eg YORYM-1995.109.1 becomes YORYM-1995.109.01)? Otherwise I'm not sure if I would be able to apply for filemover rights as I actually have a very low edit count on Commons. What do you think? Thanks! PatHadley (talk) 19:02, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Felidae paws and claws

The move proposal was clearly an act of trolling, as bears are not part of the Felidae family, but the Ursidae. Don't take my word for it, it is easily verifiable. You have been deceived. Mariomassone (talk) 09:08, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Trolling? A trolling that was about 1 and 1/2 year in the Category! And if you want to chnge it, you have to fix more than two images. And please write something at the Category discussion! What you actually do did not really helps. Marcus Cyron (talk) 11:06, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
Hard to believe, but that seems like exactly what has happened. Anyone with a basic knowledge of mammalian taxonomy can confirm this. I have started the discussion on the Ursidae and Mustelidae pages. I can't believe the move was approved. Mariomassone (talk) 20:04, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Hallo seczimm (if you want, we can communicate in German) - the problem is, that we only can accept image who are published under a free licese. That means, the creator, the phoographer, has to give his permission to publishing the images under a free license. I know, this can be frustrating, but depending licenses we can't make compromisses. If you are allowed to use the image for any purpose, please send a message to the support-team with a short statement, that we can use the image under a free license. Renamings

Hi Marcus, I don't think your renaming of several Greek vase pictures is a very good idea as it can break links. COM:RENAME states that "as a matter of principle it's best to leave all files with generally valid names at their locations, even if slightly better names may exist". Jastrow (Λέγετε) 14:31, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Ys, you are right. I've tried to test something - but it don't work, as I hoped it would. Marcus Cyron (talk) 14:32, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
If you think including vase-painters in the file name is a good thing, I will try to do so from now on. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 13:15, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
It was a test - but at the end you should do it in the way you like it the most. It will be easier to do this all over categories. Marcus Cyron (talk) 07:03, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Ionesco

Page Moves

I noticed you move a couple of the page moves I requested. I was wondering if you know if there was a way that I could move the images myself? There was a user who uploaded a lot of images from a Flicker feed using the User:File Upload Bot (Magnus Manske) and did not change the names. They are all a random collection of letters and numbers from the camera used to create them (like - File:ERI6239 (5603125987).jpg). The user did go through and either put the individuals in the description or organize them with players category. I wanted to start moving some of these to better names but didn't want to inundate the system with requests. Cheers! --Leech44 (talk) 17:53, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Renaming File:Bourg Argental-Église Saint André-Le sacrifice d'Isaac.jpg into File:Bourg Argental-Église Saint André-Le choix de Pierre.jpg

Hi Marcus ! I beg your pardon for my poor English, but for the subject concerning this file, I restored my justification that I had failed to register :

|1|Because it'is not ! In the other face of the capitel is the miraculous catch Luke gospel 5 1-7. This face is illustration of the end of the Luke gospel : (8) When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”. (9 )For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, (10) and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.”.

It is this word that it is represented on this face of the capitel and more, Isaac sacrifice is out of the storytelling of this portal. Thank you to change this unforgivable mistake

Incorrect renaming?

Hello. I think there might have been an error in the renaming of File:120713_Passer_montanus_-_01.jpg which you made in December 6, 2013. (diff) The original name was probably correct: the image depicts a male Passer domesticus (enWP: House Sparrow) with a gray crown and gray cheeks, and not a Passer montanus (enWP: Tree Sparrow) with chestnut coloured crown and black patch on cheeks. It is quite common to confuse them since they often share the same flocks, have more or less the same vocalization, and are similar in colour patterns. However, the explicit difference in colour of the crown and cheeks make them easily distinguishable. Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 23:33, 4 February 2014 (UTC).

It wa a request by the Uploader - I have to trust such request. If you know it more correctly, please request a renaming. Marcus Cyron (talk) 09:53, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

This picture belongs to Robert Estienne (or Robertus Stephanus, 1503-1559) and not to Henricus Stephanus (1470-1520), the elder as it is saved. We must correct it. Good contributions.Claudio Pistilli (talk) 23:05, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

I did not have delete it - so I will not restore it. And the problem is still there - she is not the photographer, but is named as photographer. This makes hard to belive anything. We can't play this way with licenses. Marcus Cyron (talk) 09:37, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
My error; I've already been in touch with the correct admin.
Just so you're aware, two e-mails to me from Bianca's assistant Sunni at bookings[at]biancaryan[dot]com were forwarded to permissions-commons[at]wikimedia[dot]org; the first of those two (accompanying the close-up) stated, "The image that was loaded last year by us was copy-right [sic] free, dunno why its [sic] not there. Attached is the image…the photographer gave us all rights to this photo." Please understand, I do not "play" with these issues; I do take them seriously. Cheers. :) —ATinySliver/ATalkPage 00:44, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

"on horse back"

Hi,
The correct spelling is "horseback", one word, so "on horseback".

Hello. Why you rename it in Italian? Painter was French, painting now is in France. We are keeping here the oringinal name. If not - at least giving the English, for more people could understand it (I am Russian, for example). Please remember that it is the international project. --Shakko (talk) 22:08, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

I agree with Shakko.
"Scuola di fontainebleau". But Fontainebleau is outside of Paris.
Better here would be French: "Ecole de Fontainebleau ...".

Hello! Something went wrong with two files just now; File:Rawert000217.jpg‎ and File:Rawert000542.jpg as they were redirected instead of moved. Could you fix it? Thank you. Regards --Anne-Sophie Ofrim (talk) 11:29, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Deleted photo

Dear Marcus,

3 month ago, more or less, you deleted a photo called ' File:Teniente de Corbeta Carlos Daniel Vazquez (1982).jpg'.

That picture is from my dad, we used a scanner to have it on the computer (own work), and he is the one on the picture. How can i undelete that so i can put the picture in the article again?

Hi. As long you own the rights of the picture, you can write a mail to the Support-Team (see there) and there ou should write, you are the owner of the Copyright and you will publish the image under a free license (normally cc-by-sa-3.0 or newer 4.0). Then it should be no problem to restore it. Marcus Cyron (talk) 22:11, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi.

The photo was published by Agência Brasil under a CC Attribution 3.0 license. See http://agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br/

Could you please write this in such descriptions? This would help a lot. Because withaout speaking Portuges you did not finde this. Marcus Cyron (talk) 20:29, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I didn't understand your request. Every time I upload a photo from Agencia Brasil (using Upload Wizard), I choose the options: (x) This file is not my own work. -> The copyright holder published this work with the right Creative Commons license -> Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0. So, should I also say that in the file description? Wouldn't that be redundant? Marcosfaria70 (talk) 12:55, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
Maybe - but we have too much people who upload other peoples work in an incorrect way - and not everybody knows about every system in every language or country. So you would make it easier for me - and at the end for you, because we don't have such trouble. Give as much information you can give. Marcus Cyron (talk) 13:01, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

When I looked at the logs of this image, I saw that this image was deleted by Alan because of copyright violation. Did the image look the same when you notified it for copyright violation?

Es geht um alte Kunst Photos ende XIX Jahrhunderts in Category:Media contributed by the Brooklyn Museum. Könntest du all das sanieren? Ich wäre dir SEHR dankbar! Herzlichen Dank! Liebe Grüsse, --DenghiùComm (talk) 16:17, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Ok, ich werde es machen. Herzlichen Dank! --DenghiùComm (talk) 21:30, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Toll gemacht. Weitersuchen. Marcus, was soll denn das?

--Tsui (talk) 14:19, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello Marcus. Can you please delete my images here, here, and here? The first two is in a bad quality and I want to replace it with better images, and the last image should be deleted because the original photographer wanted me to do so. Thank you. File:Altar de lampa.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Re your revert of my image reversion

Your message "could you please tell, what you are doing here for a nonsense?" makes little sense, but I will try to explain.

Llinkster uploaded a file as File:wiki.jpg. Many other wiki's have used this name for their logo. Not realising this, I requested a rename to File:Brenda Dickson at Night of 100 Stars.jpg. This created a problem when the file was renamed, as the renamed file was automatically changed from the former to the latter. I went around to the various wikipedias and reverted the change, including to User:Moroder/gallery. --Auric (talk) 00:28, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

I understand something wrong - I thought you realized that I saw my mistake by thanking you for reverting me. Marcus Cyron (talk) 00:56, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, but that didn't seem like a thank you, more of an accusation.--Auric (talk) 11:06, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for moving the file so quickly, but my request was mistaken. The "File-" doesn't belong in the name. Rybec (talk) 17:59, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Oh, I did not realized it - I will fix it. Marcus Cyron (talk) 18:00, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

File rename

Umbenennungen

Marcus Cyron (talk) 07:34, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Among orangutans - scan

Hi Marcus! What if I scanned I a cover of a book I bought? Can't I use this image? Best, Janrzeszow (talk) 15:24, 31 March 2014 (UTC)Janrzeszow

Hi. Sadly you mostly can not use such images. Only if the image on the cover is made by (a) free picture(s). You only buy a copy of the book, not the rights on texts or images. If the image would be free, it would be possible. But then you need to say, which image it is, and why it is free. Marcus Cyron (talk) 15:27, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Fair enough, thank You! Janrzeszow (talk) 15:32, 31 March 2014 (UTC)Janrzeszow

April fool?

Why this renaming: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Coryphaena_hippurus_Spain.jpg&diff=120473313&oldid=120473151 ? It seems to be an April fool, as it seems clear that the picture does not show a Coryphaena hippurus. Have a look at w:Rudderfish and to w:Coryphaena hippurus if you want to be convinced. Lmaltier (talk) 20:03, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Don't ask me. I have to trust the other user as well I trust you. Marcus Cyron (talk) 21:31, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
Well, in this case, ask the author's opinion, or ask anybody else interested in fish. The first identification may be wrong, I'm not a specialist, but the new one is for a fish with a quite different general appearance. If the renaming request was in good faith, then he might have found some reasons, some common characteristics (and very probably thinks to a female fish), but you certainly cannot consider that this renaming is an obvious correction (as mentioned in criterion 5). Also note that, if the identification is wrong, the picture must be removed from some French Wiktionary pages. It's certainly quite illogical to illustrate a page about a fish name with the picture of a quite different fish. Lmaltier (talk) 06:03, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
No. Can you imagine, how much question we would need to ask? No! Nearly all requests are correct, we have to trust here. If there is one mistake under 100 requests, this is a fixable problem. Marcus Cyron (talk) 12:48, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
It's not a matter of trust – errors can simply be obvious or not. If they are not, you can try to find evidence for them either yourself or by asking the requester, otherwise the request has to be declined. May I ask you: If we have to trust requesters, why are there filemoving criteria at all?    FDMS  4    14:22, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
I often enough had o realize, that the uploader made mistakes but don't want to see the mistake. Ask the uploader? Sorry, this brings mostly nothing. BTW - to have rules, huidelines and what ever don't means, you have to stop thinking. This maybe is the may en:WP works, but not the other projects. Marcus Cyron (talk) 20:47, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Sure, please, don't stop thinking. But have you any reason to consider that the rule shouldn't be applied in this case? Just compare the picture of a Coryphaena hippurus and this picture, and conclude yourself. It you still feel unsure, ask several fish specialists, here, on the German Wikipedia, or anywhere. If they all agree on something, please, trust them. Lmaltier (talk) 16:32, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

I remove nothing - it is a four-eyes-principle. I request, that a second person takes a look. Now the images are deleted by an adminstrator. Why don't you write such essential informations in the description? How I should now this? There are coming every day thousands of copyvios. We can not ask for every single image, if there maybe an approval is coming. All Informations should be in the description and there never would ba a problem. We can restore the images, when the approval is here. Marcus Cyron (talk) 14:28, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
I followed the instructions at en:Wikipedia:Requesting_copyright_permission. I added Template:OTRS pending to the talk page for each image. Name vase of the Penelope painter

Hi, Marcus. I am Eunostos, a French contributor often working on topics and files related to ancient Greece. I am sorry to write to you in English, but I'd rather do this than inflict my German upon you, for it is embarrassingly poor (for now). I am contacting you about the five pictures stored in Category:Name vase of the Penelope Painter (you uploaded them in 2007, 2008 and 2013). Are you sure that this vase is really the name vase of the Penelope Painter ? I was searching for pictures of the name vase of this painter and I found some on the Perseus database. But according to Perseus, the name vase of the Penelope Painter is the Chiusi 1831 showing different scenes. Perseus seems to be right, for I found the reference in a book by Timothy Gantz about Greek myths and his description matches the pictures shown on Perseus. I talked about this problem on Category talk:Name vase of the Penelope Painter. Is this an erreor, or maybe a different attribution or classification ? (Apart from this problem, the reference of the vase on your files is correct : F2588 in the Pergamonmuseum in Berlin.) Thank you for reading me and thank you anyway for the photos ! --Eunostos (talk) 20:32, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Eunostos. First of all - I don't speak French - so English is completely OK. It is a multilingual project, we need such a "lingua franca". To the Skyphos. You are absolutely right - I already have changed it. I can't figure out, how this mistake was happen (btw. terrible images, but it is really hard to take photos of this vase). The name vase is the one in Chiusi. Thanks for being so attentive :). Would be fine to see one more, who's working on this area here at Commons. Marcus Cyron (talk) 21:51, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

What happened?    FDMS  4    16:07, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

I don't know. The software tears the image and the text apart. The file was still there under the new name - but without any discription (so it was at the end not really there). I hat to c&p the discription text and after saving all was there under the new name. Don't happens often - but sometimes. Seems the software had there a bug or something has happened. Marcus Cyron (talk) 16:24, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
Don't you think an import of the version history might be necessary? Your target page is still existing, without the file …    FDMS  4    16:27, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

File rename

So you saw no valid reason to trim down the long name of File:California Chrome at the 2014 San Felipe with Victor Espinoza on board and Alan Sherman..jpg - however, did you notice there are two periods before Jpg? (..jpg?) Think it's worth at least fixing that glitch, even if you don't feel the need to shorten the caption? Also, and to the point, the identical image at en.wikipedia has been approved to be moved over here and it is named File:California Chrome at 2014 San Felipe.jpg. So what to do to reconcile all this is your call, but I hope you now understand the situation. Montanabw (talk) 22:27, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

You're cause is, we should rename the file, because there is a file with the same name at en:WP. This is not a valid cause - this is simply the contrary of a valid cause. Marcus Cyron (talk) 10:40, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Requst

Hello Marcus Cyron! If you remember, a while ago I asked you about whether I could have deleted an old version of a file that I myself uploaded. If I'm not mistaken, you said that old versions are not normally deleted on Commons. Still, I'd like to have the old version of this file deleted. The reason is that the old version doesn't contain EXIF data. I personally don't like images without EXIF data. More often than not, such files are copied from other websites. In addition, I have noticed that this old version is used in some social networks. Therefore, I think we should delete the picture in order to avoid any copyright problems. By the way, I'm trying to have this picture deleted as well. You can find the reason for my request here. Please take a look at it too. Thank you in advance! Nataev talk 08:41, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, but we can't delete the image, when it is used there. This would be really mean. You have published the image here under a free licence and the reusers trust that they can refer to the image. It xould be really unfair, when they can not longe say where the original is. This would break massively the trust in Commons. And as long you are the photographer of an image, the exif-datas would be good, but we not really need them. We need at the end the image. I don't understand, why aou uploaded the new image over the old one. Bothimages show the house in very different situations. It really would be the best for Commons, if we woud have both images for free choice. I really see no cause for a deletion. Be proud of giing two different images of one motive. They both help us :).

--Ordercrazy (talk) 07:21, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

Deletion summary

Hi Marcus, I see you deleted Category:Rørvik Church and moved it to Category:Rørvik kirke. Could you in the future please set an edit summary that contains the target category? This way it's easier for users to find the new name and a bot is able to repair the broken links. Thank you, Multichill (talk) 20:51, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I can. Sounds logical. Marcus Cyron (talk) 20:53, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

This was not a valid rename in light of "File renaming criterion #2". Prior name was hardly "completely meaningless". While I am not opposed to improving it, replacing it with non-Latin name is not proper. The file name should retain the original English character; Korean script can be added the the description box. As the uploader, I request either a reversal of the name, or a replacement with (or addition of) of the better (even more descriptive) English name. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 05:06, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Prior name was at the end meaningless. And Commons is an international project. Our rules say clear, that no language stands over the others. And also no script system. There are also not a "english character" - this is latin. Marcus Cyron (talk) 11:10, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
"No language stands over the others" means that there is no reason to change the filename from one language to another if this is the only reason for the request. You have changed the filename from something that is neither perfectly descriptive nor completely meaningless to something that 98% of users cannot understand at all. Marcus Cyron, do you have any idea what the new name stands for? I do not, it could be PCG headquartes in Ottawa as well as Building in Seoul as well as Penis penis penis – it's a filename that is completely and entirely meaningless for every user that does not understand Korean.    FDMS  4    13:25, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Exactly. I'd use both: File:English description English one would be sufficient too but we can accommodate two languages. English one has the priority, however, as it was the name I chose as the uploader (if we have to choose). While this file may be deleted, I hope you exercise caution in renames in the future when it comes to changing language. Also, can you or User:FDMS4 live a note about this at the page of whoever requested the name change in the first place? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 03:52, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Marcus, I think perhaps you may have missed the criteria I selected, (Criterion 5. in this case an incorrect proper noun). the file is named Amber Ste Claire in 2009.jpg but the model's name is Amber St Claire. Not a good idea to delete categories for US aircraft such as Category:A-26 Invader

I see you are deleting these and replacing them with the manufacturer prefix e.g. Category:Douglas A-26 Invader. Instead of deleting the old category I suggest it should be retained and changed to a redirect. The reason is that most people know these aircraft as A-26, F-4 etc, few know the full name of the manufacturer. These means it is easy for people to add categories starting with e.g. A-26 which Hotcat then fills in and replaces with the full name when they save. If they add the A-26 etc. categtory with the editor rather than Hotcat, there is a bot which runs frequently to move them to the correct category. Conclusion : to make it easiest for people to add categories, we need to keep all the A-26, B-17, B-29 etc. categories as redirects to the actual full name. Rcbutcher (talk) 11:39, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Marcus Cyron (talk) 13:18, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

I think this is an unappropriate categorisation for gravestones placed there since years or ten-year periods: this category grant in fact - I believe - events occurred in the year 2012. To exemplify, is it an event occurred in Rome in 2012 the photo yo've taken to the Grave of Paul Iordanow? The event for Rome was maybe in 1920 or in 1962 when mr or mrss Iordanow die. Your usage of the Category:2012 in Rome means instead something as "Marcus Cyron was here in 2012": you'll agree that's an event for Marcus Cyron, not for the city of Rome, I think :). If you agree with my opinion, I will delighted to help you to restore the uncategorisation. Ciao. --Lalupa (talk) 06:37, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

You tihink and act first - and then you speak? And I think, you are not right. Even for such imaes it is of great importance, when they were made. Because there are the things also changing. Restorations things, other things broke up. This is a historical and archaeological thing, to know the exact date. And I think, it is unfair, that you cause with your opinion so much work for others. Marcus Cyron (talk) 10:28, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Please note....

as an example - this: File:K.u.k. Feldmarschall-Lt2 1918.png is in reality a "k.u.k. Feldmarschalleutnant" and not a "Kuk A F7-LtGen 1911" - what ever that means in the phantasy of a special user who means to press military ranks of an army long time passed away into the NATO-Code --L' empereur Charles (talk) 14:30, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

-- L' empereur Charles (talk) 05:42, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Du meinst also du hast die ganze Ahnung? Marcus Cyron (talk) 19:28, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Wrong rename

Next time you rename an already renamed file on behalf of Tm, make sure he’s not (as he did here) including incorrect information in the new filename he suggests. I may be an ass for prefering filenames without spaces, and he may be one too for insisting in including Flickr’s original number in Commons filenames — but one thing is certain: This photo is located where I said it was (Praça Luís de Camões, after careful analysis of the photo and of Google Street View, later confirmed in situ), not where he guessed (Largo da Graça, surely after thinking about it for half a second); the definitive filename should reflect the correct location, if any. Thanks. -- Tuválkin 21:06, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

I will not check who ask for renaming (we have hundreds of them every day!) - and I'm not nterested in your personal problems. As long I see, a request for renaming looks OK, I will do it. I have to trust the Users. We don't have a project of mistrust. If a user makes strange things, bring it to the Administrators. This is the only practical way. Marcus Cyron (talk) 23:27, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
My personal problems, seriously…? You surely have a way with words, Mr. Administrator. (No news here, you pretty much reacted the way I predicted, based on past experience — but admin callousness is always sad to witness, even when expected.)
More to the point, your justification to allowing renaming to an incorrect name is as lame as your reaction to my interpellation: There was not, in this case, any pressing need to greenlight this renaming, even if «by uploader's request» (especially since the uploader was not a creator, this being one of hundreds of thousands of files he uploaded). You could have simply let the matter wait, it being a re-renaming with two users putting forward two different new names (because this is not «a project of mistrust», right?), and let the proponents of both names sort it out. Instead you decided to cut down on your pile, and, like a bot, “fixed” the matter with zero thought or insight.
Well, thanks so much for that, Mr. Administraror. I’ll take it from here and will correct the misleadingly detailed filename with wrong information you enabled.

Renaming Image Files on Wikipedia HELP

Hi Marcus Cyron,

I sent an email to permissions@wikipedia, and I wanted to ask you for the BEST way to rename file images, as well as link or upload file images to Wikipedia.

In an article for Creation, I wrote this:

|image =Madeline Sands

However, it does not work. I am having a lot of trouble adding and renaming images. From now on, I will upload images with the exact file description that I would like to have on Wikipedia. I've read a number of Wikipedia help guides for photos, but I still have trouble. Please assist.

I work at Small World Social, the copyright holder of this work, and on behalf of Small World Social, I hereby publish it under the following license: Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.

This is the Flickr account link for all of the images:https://www.flickr.com/photos/smallworldsocial/

This is the Vimeo account link for our Breastfeeding Video--An Overview: https://vimeo.com/86940733

Thank you,

Julie Taeko

Hi Julie - the first is, that the images (and also the videos) have fitting descriptions and we need the creators and sources. If we have it, we should think which names are really fit. I think, the upload names are not bad - but if they are incorrect or if you have ideas for beter names, a renaming is ofcourse possible. But in my opinion, the suggestions for new names were not really better than the original. Really hard to read, very long and without spaces between the words. Maybe shorter names. Marcus Cyron (talk) 19:13, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

--Arnd (talk) 09:11, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Marcus Cyron (talk) 09:17, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
--Arnd (talk) 13:58, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Mediatus (talk) 10:51, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Mediatus (talk) 10:55, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
Mediatus (talk) 11:05, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
Mediatus (talk) 11:56, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Marcus Cyron (talk) 14:49, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Ancient Greek vases

Because we need a distinction between pottery in the form of a vase and other kinds of pottery, such as tanagrines, oscilla, akroteria & re. --User:G.dallorto (talk) 13:52, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

OK - then I know this now. You are right in this. Maybe the next time such a category should be a bit cumunicated. Marcus Cyron (talk) 14:48, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Batch job

Also z. B. File:Die Gartenlaube (1879) 765.jpg.

Gruß, --Arnd (talk) 09:10, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Marcus Cyron (talk) 10:49, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
--Arnd (talk) 11:53, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
Wir werden sehen ;). Marcus Cyron (talk) 11:56, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Washing animals vs Animal washing

Why did you rename the cat when the discussion was not settled? Talk page in question. --Pitke (talk) 00:20, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

There was not a discussion. Only one oppose and I have to firure out, is it right or not. This is my Job. And the oppose is at the end nonsense, unclear. Who is washing who? Aninmals other animals? Humans Animals? Animals themself? There ist no cause, no real possibility to do it in different categories under these names. Marcus Cyron (talk) 06:03, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
In that sense the Animal washing -> Washing animals rename did nothing to improve the situation. With the same effort, new categories for People washing animals etc could have been created. --Pitke (talk) 01:43, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
I'm not really interested in this discussion. If you think you need to do this - please do it! I only have done a service. Marcus Cyron (talk) 13:07, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Erpebilder

Gruß Holger1959 (talk) 23:33, 31 May 2014 (UTC) Oh welch Zufall, du bist grad selbst an neuen Bildern dran :) Holger1959 (talk) 23:35, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Holger1959 (talk) 23:56, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
Holger1959 (talk) 23:59, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Marcus Cyron (talk) 16:00, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello,

Sorry to disturb you, but I undid the rename on that file because I put the rename template by accident. We had an edit workshop at Sèvres today and I was reviewing what has been done and I reverted a little too fast (the description is good now but I didn't see the template), and we talked about renaming that file or not and finally we agreed not to. Thanks anyway. --Coyau (talk) 18:17, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Deleting previous versions

Hi Marcus. Sorry to bother you here with a policy question but what is the situation with previous versions of an image file that will never be used again? A number of the maps I have created have interim versions (read versions where I cocked up the graphics :)), which serve no useful purpose. Is there a mechanism whereby I can request their deletion? Many thanks, Philg88 (talk) 07:52, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Why not let it be as Documentaion? Wikimedia historians will be happy, when they will have this later :). And at the end - it we woul "delete" it, it only would vanished out of sight of the maiority - but would stay unseen at the server. So we not really win, if we delete unused versions. And there is another important thing: we give the images under a free licence. The images are used at the web and outsite. Even older versions. But if we delte, they could not refer to the place of origin. This would cause a lot of problems. Marcus Cyron (talk) 14:30, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough! It must be my age and memories of the days when every 1K of disc space was precious :) Cheers, Philg88 (talk) 06:03, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Hihi. I remember this times too. There were times in the beginning, old versions of Wikipedia would be deleted. Now "Wiki archaeologists" try to bring them back ;). Marcus Cyron (talk) 20:38, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution.

Was also stimmt?

Holger1959 (talk) 21:28, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

Photo check

Hi Marcus, We met recently when I requested a filename move for this image, which you granted (among one or two others).
I just uploaded a photo of the "Blue Giant of the Orient", which is the largest sapphire in the world (which I see you've added to your ceramics gallery). The photo can be found in numerous places about the internet, esp on Jeweler's web pages and blogs, and so I believe it is in the public domain. (Do a Google for "blue giant sapphire".) I believe it is a trivial work , never copyrighted, and have used this license, as it is a photo of a world famous object that was once put up for public auction in a famous auction house (Christie's Auction House, in Geneva Switzerland). It would seem to me that if the photo is not designated by a copyright signature anywhere that it is not copyrighted. If there is no copyright designation to be found anywhere, no one could challenge the image for being copyrighted. Yes? Would you give the image a check, per licensing info, etc, because I want to use the photo in an article I am creating and hope to submit it for a DYK nomination. Any and all help and feedback here would be greatly appreciated. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 16:06, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Too late, as I read this, the image was already deleted. But this was correct. "Trivial" or something like that is sadly not a part of the Copyright. So all 3D-images have their own copyright as long the creator is not dead for at least 70 years OR there is an other cause. So for example the photographer himself gave the image under a free license or it was made while working for an Institution that hold the rights and give the image free. So even trivial looking images always have their copyright. Marcus Cyron (talk) 18:52, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

--BR, Jan ·S· (media) 12:47, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi, the rationale was harmonization, however this move loses the LACMA reference from the filename, putting it at odds with the 24,000 images in Images from LACMA uploaded by Fæ. Could you re-add the LACMA reference? Thanks -- (talk) 19:02, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Yes. No problem. Marcus Cyron (talk) 20:42, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Photo nominated for deletion

Thank you for your message. I am the admin of Cezar Ouatu's website but this probably does not matter when chosing the right licence to upload a photo. In this case, I would be grateful for any suggestion. Which licence should be better in order to safely upload and use the photo I am discussing about ? Of course, I am representing Cezar Ouatu and his website. Thank you !! --Daniela Bugea (talk) 17:51, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi. At first you really need the rights on the images. These rights are normally by the photographer, not by the photographed person. When you have the rights, but you are not the photographer, please send an Email (see Commons:Permission). The Copyright is not an easy thing and we really have to be very careful with that. And een you must really think about what would you like to do. Because if you upload an image here under a free license, this image can be reused worldwide by anybody for free and everything (with ofcourse with borders as personal rights). So at the end - we need to know, that you are allowed to use the images and give them free. If you can do that and if you do that - it's fine and we can use the images here (the can be restored, they are not really deleted, onlyy hidden from the public). Danke !

Hallo Marcus. Herzlichen Dank für deinen Barnstar. Zwar, die grosse Arbeit by subject, hab gesehen, hast du gemacht, wer weiss in wievielen Jahren...?

I've done the work again and again, but the mountain of things to do was not getting smaller. I've studied Archaeology too, but at this time I had no interest for Ceramics. This came much later. And I totally agree - only if we bring order in the System and the files, we can really use the images good. I've planned to do it by myself - but never found the time. At the end - even if you work on it every day, there will be enough to do even for me ;). Marcus Cyron (talk) 10:26, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

File Replace

--Ordercrazy (talk) 10:24, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
OK, das scheint schon vollbracht zu sein :). Marcus Cyron (talk) 10:59, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

List of WikiVideo projects

Als Lemma denke ich an List of WikiVideo projects oder List of WikiVideo & WikiTV projects worldwide - was meinst Du? LG --user.js (talk) 20:20, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Raymond 21:14, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Also Importrechte hat Marcus doch afaik?
Marcus Cyron (talk) 09:33, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Identified plant.

I am new to moderating the files and am simply following the instruction pages for renaming files. They stated that the plants needed to be identified. An in-depth description will, most likely, not be possible since it is not feasible to pin down the EXACT variety name for most of the plants. If I can figure out how to move them to a new category, I can begin doing that, at least.

Sorry for my confusion.

Bark.I.Am.

It only needed to be the best possible identification. But everything is better than nothing or a false description. But I did not wanted to criticise you. I only would like to see you as the person who know it better than all the others before, that you do it in the best possible way. Marcus Cyron (talk) 18:00, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 startet in Kürze

Hallo Marcus Cyron,

I don't speak portuges. Marcus Cyron (talk) 10:51, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
Eugenio Hansen, OFS (talk) 16:22, 1 September 2014‎ (UTC)
Eugenio Hansen, OFS (talk) 22:27, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
Marcus, feel free to move this to COM:VP/C; context is here. -- Tuválkin 19:03, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

You put a speedy deletion tag on a image I added today, stating that it is a copyright violation but I do not understand. The photograph I uploaded was taken by me of a card that I own so how is it a copyright infringement? David Condrey (talk) 02:46, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

For me it made the clear impression, that this was not an original image. Ofcourse there is alwys the possibility, that I've made a mistake. If this was so, I'm sorry. Then I will restore the image. Marcus Cyron (talk) 13:15, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Oh no, no sorry. You made an image of a copyrighted image. This is a clear copyvio. Or did you took the original image of the player? Marcus Cyron (talk) 13:17, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
I took the image of the card, photographs of copyrighten material don't fall under the same copyright restrictions, I dont think. David Condrey (talk) 00:26, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
I found some past discussion on a similar matter: Talk Archive - Fair use of baseball card images. Though it remains unclear what the final outcome of that was. David Condrey (talk) 00:35, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
Commons is not en:Wikipedia. Fair use images are here forbidden. Marcus Cyron (talk) 11:36, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
