Hello, Matthew (WMF)!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Files featured on Wikimedia Foundation blog[edit]

It is outdated again. :) -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 16:23, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

I added it on all the pages but noticed File:Ghent April 2012-2.jpg lacks a title in the blog which is why I wrote a none for now. I also noticed the emphasis on free licenses were dropped. -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 16:40, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
I updated the parts that were missing. Sorry, was traveling for the Foundation and didn't get back to you sooner. Matthew (WMF) (talk) 20:37, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

missing personality template[edit]

Hi Matthew, when uploading images showing identifiable people (especially portraits of women) please add per default personality to protect their personality rigths and to prevent image abuse. Thanks. --Túrelio (talk) 14:08, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Autopatrol given[edit]

Commons Autopatrolled.svg

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Thank you. Thanks, Trijnstel. I'm not sure if it's helpful to also do my volunteer (aka non-WMF account), but that one is Almonroth

PTOD July 9, 2013[edit]

Hi Matthew, I sent an e-mail but I'm afraid it didn't arrive. It is certainly a great pleasure to know that you are planning to publish my picture as POTD on july 9, 2013 . Please let me know how I can help you. Best regards --Wolfgang Moroder (talk) 19:21, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

 • Nice article [here] but the term neonatal is wrong it should be changed to prenatal or fetal which is not the same as neonatal because the baby is unborn. Best regards and thanks you --Wolfgang Moroder (talk) 07:09, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
