Uploading pictures in Wikipedia

Hi, I got an email stating that the picture I've uploaded will be removed. I'm just very confused. I tried looking at the various license/permissions that are available but I don't know how to obtain those permission? And may I know what pictures/photos can be uploaded and what cannot? No screenshots? What if those are photos which I've taken?

Dear Createsparks, Wikimedia Commons accepts only free content. to undrestand what kind of images you can upload to commons please read Commons:Image casebook. You can freely upload photos taken by yourself which are fit to Commons project scope
The IMA simulation Screenshot comes from Honda Malaysia (Terms) website and it is actually a copyright violation, except you have writen permission from "HONDA MALAYSIA SDN. BHD. Here is a guid on how you can ask for permission from the copyright holder: Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission, you can also find some request examples here: Wikipedia:Example requests for permission.
PS. please sign your posts on talk pages, using ~~~~. Regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  18:18, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

File:Curierul_de_Fizică.png

Thank you for the messages (talk and email) concerning "Curierul de Fizică.png". The Editor of Curierul de Fizică has been notified and will send the requested permission by email. However, that can happen only next week, because the guy is away from base and his communications are quite restricted. Can you make it 10 days instead of seven? Thanks! — Victor Blacus (talk) 15:12, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Dear Victor Blacus, I set a new date, now you have ten days (from May 19). Don't be worry, if file get removed from Commons you can reupload it any time you got the permission. Regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  19:08, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Copyright violation tagged images *

Hi,

You tagged several of my images as a copyright violation. These photos and screenshots have been released with a CC-by-sa-3.0 licence by Novacom Services, the current owner of the software. A written copy of the permissions have been emailed to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Please, if you have any doubt, contact Novacom Services (http://www.novacom-services.com) for a confirmation.

Maybe, another time you could talk to the uploader before tagging all images with copyright violation, people would appreciate that for sure. If some additional information is needed, simply tell this to the uploader before tagging or deleting files, everyone can do mistakes.

Thanks for your devotion and regards,

Jordi

Thank you for caring for your images!!
1. I tagged your images to protect "Novacom Services" rights.
2. If you have a permission for your images, you should send it to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org), also you should add template {{OTRS pending}} to the image page, so we can understand that you are waiting for your permission to get verified by OTRS members.
Here are some useful links about requesting copyright permission and forwarding it to OTRS: Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission, Wikipedia:Example requests for permission, OTRS. by the way please sign your posts on talk pages, using ~~~~. I hope you understand our concerns in protecting people's and company's properties, if you are from "Novacom Services" you already know that this items are your company's intellectual property, so please don't get upset because I tagged this images as copyright violation, this is to protect you and your company.
Best regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  18:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

missing source information *

Hi.

You tagged an image of mina as missing essential information. I dont really understand what other info is needed, I took this image myself as stated under image info. But it still says that info is missing.

thanks. Mnalle

But I don't think that it is taken by you, did you put the watermark too? :) What is your camera model? cause there is no exif data in this jpg file, I really believe that you copied it from a website, Regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  16:27, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Permission

Hi Mmxx, thank you for your letter. Perhaps you can help me getting out with some little trouble over my commons-contribution. I already sent the permission of the copyright-holder to permission-commons-de. Do you think this is alright this way?! Thanks so much; Max

PS: Here is the link and the permission of the troubled pix.

"Rechteinformation: Alle hier zur Verfügung gestellten Fotos können für private und kommerzielle Zwecke unter Angabe des Copyright "Airport Nürnberg" frei verwendet werden."

Source: http://www.airport-nuernberg.de/unternehmen/presse/fotomedia/

Dear MaxtorNP, Hi!
If have sent the email to OTRS you should also add {{OTRS pending}} template to each image page.
Unfortunately I can't understand German language and I use Google Translate, to translate websites to english, the page you provided says: "All photos available for private and commercial purposes, specifying the copyright Airport Nuremberg used freely." but there is another page which say: "If you have to publish certain photographs, you need a permit from the press office of the Nuremberg Airport."
Now that you have sent the permission to OTRS everything should be ok, but to be sure that it ever needed an email or no please let me discuss it with an German speaking user, Best regads.   ■ MMXXtalk  17:33, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Copyright confusion. - want to learn the right way. UPDATE

I think I figured out my own problem. I uploaded in the wrong place. Very sorry. I get it now. Wikimedia Commons is not Wikipedia.

I'm a new user and I'm not "autoconfirmed".

That's how I got all confused. I'll wait a week and try to upload an image to Wikipeida.

Useyourhead33 (talk) 02:37, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Please disregard

Very sorry. Thanks for your patience. I'm learning.

Useyourhead33 (talk)

Ah Ha. Also see another reason for copyright violation.

I also just realized that I probably can't post the image with all the logos of the Charities and Associations. For example, I had Purdue University and Shrine logos ... combined/collated into an image.

I'll bet I'm not allow to post those myself.

Anyway, I'll study the copyright guidelines again for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.

Useyourhead33 (talk)

Dear Useyourhead33,
Both my talk page or your talk Page are right place, but when writing a comment to someone please remember two things, 1. Please sign in to your account and then comment so I can understand who you are. 2. Please Sign your post using ~~~~.
Your image seems to me a bunch of copyrighted logos, Well if this image have a corresponding article in some other wikimedia project (like: English Wikipedia) and this image is really needed you have two ways to upload them, you may be able to upload them in English wikipedia under Fair use policy or you can upload them in Commons ONLY if they are released by the original owner to use freely because Wikimedia Commons only accept free content.
You are right, as you are a new user you are not able to upload files in English Wikipedia until you get confirmed, and to get confirmed your account should be more than 4 Days old and you should at least have 10 edits.
Anyway I see you are learning very fast, please spend more time and read the guidelines carefully. here are some useful links for you:
There was no need to delete your comment and please don't be sorry for asking a question, keep it in mind that if you had any question you can always ask me by posting in my talk page or you can post your question in Commons:Village pump to get your answer from community, I would be happy if I could help you and I am sure if I wasn't available some other user will help you. Happy editing.   ■ MMXXtalk  03:26, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey Mmxx,

thank you for your support. Yes the two

  • File:Airport Nuernberg Tower mit Drehkreuz Air Berlin.jpg
  • File:Airport Nuernberg Modern Art Renaturation.jpg

and by the way also the other files I uploaded on commons are from the same source.

Airport Nuremberg

Hey Mmxx, you ve seen some note at the source, that you have to ask somebody in respect of the pix. That ´s just if you like to shoot fotos at the airport yourself; that sounds reasonable at a airport - the uploaded pictures already existing are under free license and you dont have to ask the press office if you want to use them. Regards ant thanks for your help and support, MaxtorNP

Your welcome, everything is just fine now, Best regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  14:02, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Hotcat and templates

Hey, thank you for your efforts in getting templates properly categorized. However, please keep in mind that Hotcat isn't yet properly working on categories. It puts the categories outside the noinclude tags (example). Doing it manually might be more appropriate here. --The Evil IP address (talk) 09:51, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Dear Jordi Pujol Ulied
Unfortunately this images are copyright violation, because they contain lots of copyrighted logos like the SUN logo, also Wikimedia commons dose not allow "No Derivative Works" (not to modify) license, Regards   ■ MMXXtalk  05:45, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, MMX... I'm going to talk to every enterprise in the two image to send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, to allow the use of the logo in that image and to use in commons. Can you wait for two weeks (is summer) for this people see the use of the image in Wikipedia? That's right?

Sorry, No we shall not wait even for one hour! and I think it is quite impossible to get permission for example from SUN Microsystem to use their logo for ANY purpose, anyway, ANY image containing these kind of copyrighted logos are considered copyright violation on Wikimedia Commons. For more information please see: Commons:Licensing and Commons:Image casebook. btw please sign your post using ~~~~.   ■ MMXXtalk  06:06, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, MMX...

I have contact to all the enterprises and they agree the use of this logo in the poster. Another question that you says is that the images in commons must be free (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Choosing_a_license#Common_free_licenses) but i say that this image doesn't fit this rules: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sun_Microsystems_logo.svg In conclusion, there is any solution to include this image?

Thanks!

No, there is not anyway you be able to keep this images on Commons, Wikimedia Commons accepts only free content.   ■ MMXXtalk  06:19, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

And why the logo of Sun is allowed?

Well .... you can delete the two images. I'm going to upload two new images without the logos of enterprises. That's right?

Thanks!

Well That's on English Wikipedia, they have different rules, some of local Wikipedia projects allows fair use but Commons not. The SUN logo uploaded at Wikipedia under fair use Fair use policy. Please remember even if you remove these logos you need to send permission for website screenshot itself to to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, Also please don't forget sign your post using ~~~~. Regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  06:40, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't understand this: What is "website screenshot itself" ???? I have a version of poster without logos because this is the original one..... Jordi.pujol.ulied (talk) 06:46, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Well... i'm not going to erase the logos... more clearly.... I'm going to use the logo design of the event itself. Doesn't implies any erase or similar...

That's right, now?

Jordi.pujol.ulied (talk) 06:48, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh, I thought they are website screenshot, anyway, the right way is uploading them without ANY third party logo or object but please do not forget to send permission for this poster to (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). Thank you for your understanding, Best regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  17:41, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

User portraits used on user pages are not necessarily out of scope...Template:userpageimage -- AnonMoos (talk) 06:49, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello, But CheckUsage shows it is not used anywhere. Also user don't have any other user account across Wikimedia, anyway Túrelio has posted a comment on her userpage, maybe we could wait some more days, Regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  17:22, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
That's kind of what I meant -- "waiting a few days" is not really compatible with speedy deletion, and it would have been better if you had left a notice on her user page more like what Turelio did (instead of the generic pre-canned boilerplate template)... AnonMoos (talk) 07:41, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi, you are right, maybe I should changed that speedy deletion to normal deletion request, but anyway, at any time if she came back to Wikimedia and she was willing to stay and contribute, she can upload her picture again! Regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  03:42, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

File:730 sw ori.jpg

Hallo,

Daniel Schulz.

Dear Daniel Schulz,
Hello, Are you and User:Redaktion101 same persons?! well, If you have any letter from Bernina, that says you can use this pictures for any purpose, please forward it to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org), but please keep it in mind that they should clearly indicated in their letter that they are willing to release these images under one of accepted licenses on Wikimedia Commons. for more information please see:
Commons:Licensing
Wikipedia:Example requests for permission
Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission
After you have forwarded their email please add template {{OTRS pending}} to the image pages, so we can understand that you are waiting for your permission to get verified by OTRS members.
Regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  03:30, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Hallo, ja das sind ein und die selbe Person. Email mit Erlaubnis wurde an die admins versand und hoffe das alles soweit geklärt ist.

Hello, If you have permission from Bernina and you forwarded it to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org) you should also add {{OTRS pending}} template to all of your images. I saw you have uploaded some new images from Bernina but you forgot to add {{OTRS pending}} to them.   ■ MMXXtalk  16:49, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

File:HollowEp_album_cover.jpg*

Hi Mmxx! I'm having a difficult time not violating copyright law when uploading this album cover, HollowEp_album_cover. How should I list it so that it doesn't get deleted? Thank you! Ash6000

If I understand you correctly, you want upload this album cover somehow that it doesn't get deleted. Am I right? Well, you can not upload it in anyway in Wikimedia Commons, Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content, for more information about what is accepted at Commons please see: Commons:Image casebook and Commons:Licensing. But you may be able to upload it to local wiki projects like English Wikipedia, some local wiki projects allow uploading non-free files under Fair use policy, Regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  14:21, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Dear Miguel Castro
Hello, I know your intention was good but unfortunately Wikimedia Commons dose not allow copyrighted files, the images that you uploaded appear to be taken from TV or some website but surly they all have some authors, so when you are uploading such items which didn't created by you, you should first ask the original creator for permission for using their materials. Here are two useful links for you in your language, please read them carefully
Commons:Alcance del proyecto
Commons:Sobre las licencias
Well, this images should get deleted because they are copyright violation but I hope you continue to contributing to Wikimedia projects and stay here, but from now please keep it in mind just upload free contents (Contenido libre) to Commons. Regards.   ■ MMXXtalk  17:12, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
