2 DR's

If you can, please close this DR as a Keep--I withdrew my nomination-- and please close this older DR as a Delete...as the uploader does not object to the image's deletion. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:26, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for the late reply. You did the right thing here. Usually I'm the wrong person to ask about blocks because it's not somethign I do very often –moogsi (blah) 07:23, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Malformed coordinate tages

What is going on with Category:Pages with malformed coordinate tags? I have been steadily working the files and repairing coordinates—have done a couple of hundred files, but the number of files in the category is fast increasing. Yesterday there were around 8,100 files in the category, and suddenly today there are about 10,100 such files. Also, many of the files that are in that category appear to have perfectly good coordinates. •••Life of Riley (TC) 05:29, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

The contents of the category are currently incorrect due to a bug. See COM:AN#Category:Pages with malformed coordinate tags –moogsi (blah) 07:19, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Deleted picture "castor traversant un lac"

you destroyed the picture I had taken and made available to wikimedia. Before destroyed picture... read comments. If comments are made in other languages that you know use google translation .. please. @declic —Preceding unsigned comment added by Declic (talk • contribs) 22:08, 5 May 2013‎ (UTC)

Hi, I only tagged File:Castor_traversant_un_lac.jpg as "no license" because you didn't specify which license you wanted to release the picture under. "CC-BY-SA" is unfortunately not specific enough and I was unable to tell which license you wanted to use. There was nothing in the description I didn't understand. The file is not destroyed, I can undelete it so you can add a license if you want, though bear in mind that we have a specific project scope at Commons (Commons:Critères_d'inclusion/Résumé), and generally don't accept a user's own artwork unless it is otherwise notable ("créations artistiques créées par le contributeur sans usage éducatif évident"). I'm sorry that your contribution was deleted –moogsi (blah) 22:25, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Woohoo

Thanks for being a Commons administrator aware of the needs of the sister sites and applying {{PD-US-1923-abroad-delete}}, rather than just deleting. Very nice!  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:26, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Deleted File:CedarIslandMarina.jpg

Hi Moogsi,

You deleted a file that I posted on our business' wiki page, Cedar Island Marina. This file is a picture of our marina, which we own. Our website is cedarislandmarina.com, on the website our email is listed a cedarislandmarina@gmail.com. If you want you can send me an email to this address and I will verify I am a representative of the business. The reason you took it down was because you found the picture on merchant circle, which was posted from my account. I also do not care if this image is used or in public domain, so I would be willing to sign any release. I do not have any experience with this, but I hope this is sufficient for you to undelete the file. Thanks. Shapikri (talk) 20:50, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

I would suggest following the response to your undeletion request. If you own the copyright to the image (and it is not owned by the photographer, for example) then you can release it by contacting Commons:OTRS from an identifiable email (e.g. if you have an address @cedarislandmarina.com) –moogsi (blah) 21:27, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

I emailed them at permissions-commons@wikimedia.org on Mon, May 6 at 1645 ET. No response. Is this the right email address? Shapikri (talk) 17:36, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Yes, it is correct. As long as you gave explicit permission (i.e. said something to effect of one of the template at COM:OTRS), then OTRS will reinstate the file and tag it as having permission. Generally they don't contact you unless there's a problem. Unfortunately OTRS is quite backlogged at the moment (like the rest of Wikimedia projects, it's largely volunteer-run) –moogsi (talk) 17:17, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Okay! Thanks. I did use the template. Hope it works. Shapikri (talk) 18:47, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

File:Egyptian geese-4837 3.jpg

Hello! Will you please consider merging the histories of the above file with that of File:Egyptian geese-4837 3 no-watermark.jpg. You suggested the same on the DR page of the former file but I do not know how to do it or how to mark it for such. TIA. Rahul Bott (talk) 02:56, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

✓ Done: You're welcome. You can request a merge or split at COM:SPLIT –moogsi (blah) 11:40, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the job and for the guidance :-) Regards, Rahul Bott (talk) 16:22, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Bots

Your bot first removed the source and then placed a deletion tag because of a missing source. What gives? mr.choppers (talk)-en- 07:10, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Where are the other professionally-shot, high-res pics from this user? Or did they take a break from taking photos like File:1981 Anadol A8-16.jpg to drive up a mountain and take exactly one professional shot? I don't believe the user created this image. Instead of tagging it as having no source, I should have nominated it for deletion instead. It just stinks of an image ripped from somewhere else. You'd be surprised how many people think that scanning a magazine or a brochure means they own the image.
PS, the bot isn't operated by me and I removed the source myself in the course of reviewing the upload (all bot moves to Commons are reviewed) –moogsi (blah) 16:02, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
That's another story altogether - and then you should have nominated it correctly. Perhaps the A8-16 was just taken with a phone (s)he happened to have handy, who knows? Here's all of the user's files: http://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Özel:DosyaListesi/EnginT mr.choppers (talk)-en- 17:15, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

pls leave a comment

... as you wanted to have a source and a correct license.--Sanandros (talk) 12:35, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

It's not really so much that I wanted it, rather than we can't really host it without a source or a license, neither of which it had. We actually can't host this file anyway, even if the author is unknown, it's still copyrighted in the US due to URAA-restored copyrights. I personally hate telling people about this dumb law, but I'll have a go –moogsi (talk) 16:16, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Re:Translation

You're welcome. I tried to by apart of the case since IP's user has been block in spanish Wikipedia (first one week, next two per block evasion) due to a long list of very personal attacks agains Ezarate, the "oligarch admin" in Commons, others es:WP admin and specially me (including my old nick, my job and an interview a newspaper made me some time ago) because when I was admin in es:WP I deleted or mark as copyvio several (almost all in deed) of "his" articles, and apparently I was the cause of his temporary retirement from es:WP (from october last year to january-february this one, when I've got my deadminship) per delete all his "altruist work of 4 years" (sic). First I though it was better to keep distance, but seen translation was needed and no other translation was available even when a couple of days has past since, well, I did. BTW, if you need translate something into spanish, just ask in my TP here or in my TP in es:WP. Cheers. --Ganímedes (talk) 20:45, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks

I'm so sorry for the confusing instructions; I got kind of impatient and went ahead and reset the flickreviewr tag so the bot could approve the image. My fault for being confusing! – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 07:44, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Template protection request

Are u there? plz fullfill this - this template (Template:Created with/bn) used in almost 40+ template & (Template:Translated tag/local category-bn which created category automatically) almost every template. make them semi-protected. thanks :) --Aftab1995 (talk) 17:11, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi, it's generally not necessary to protect pages such as this. They're not common targets for vandalism (you have to actually know where they are). For example, none of the other translations of these templates are protected. I wouldn't be too concerned about it –moogsi (talk) 14:58, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
Okey --Aftab1995 (talk) 17:46, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

hey

you erased every my images, don't bother me it was my own work and They were in wikimedia more than a year these images aren´t created by other person and these pictures I need for my wikipedia's articles. --Shebaks (talk) 18:41, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello. If you upload other people's work as your own, it will be deleted. Commons does not accept copyrighted material. See Commons:Project scope/Summary. Thanks –moogsi (talk) 12:25, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Trademarked tag

I have commented again at Template talk:Trademarked. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 12:49, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm watching the page –moogsi (blah) 16:20, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

I do appreciate that you want to emphasize that this is not a copyright license tag. I do support that idea, and want to be a part of helping you with it. So changing the "R symbol" after only talking to one other person on a talk page that isn't watched by the vast majority of users of that template is the reason for undoing your edit. In addition, it doesn't take into consideration other design changes that could be useful in achieving to goal of making this template distinct (i.e. using a color scheme that makes it stand out from the blandness of the license tag templates). (Also, I am now watching Template talk:Trademarked.) Senator2029 01:40, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

I don't mind at all, please do whatever you like. I did say that I like other people's ideas better. I thought that changing the image would be a way to get people to talk about it, rather than a VP post for example, even if it's a change that makes people go "what is this crap?". On reflection it was probably a bit reckless :) thank you for helping –moogsi (talk) 20:51, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Request for undeletion

Hi! I saw you deleted this image File:Cheragi Pahar circle.jpg. I am not active on commons, so couldn't provide the information. The image is in public domain according to the Copyright law of Bangladesh. See this and this. So can it be undeleted? Thanks.--Kmzayeem (talk) 18:13, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
