coat of arms[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering how you "make" the images of coat of arms? do you use any software or do you do it all manually?

I once used a software called Blazon95, I have some images on my webpage. --DelftUser talk 08:30, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Hello, I'm very sorry for doing this incorrectly, but I'm attempting to write a dissertation on Bohemond of Taranto/Antioch, and have noticed that you have designed a crest representing him whilst at Antioch. I was just wondering if you knew what crest he went under before he took Antioch, I wasn't sure if it was his father, Robert Guiscard's Hauteville family crest or possibly a crest for Taranto (which I cannot find anywhere). I'd like to include it on the cover for my dissertation, but want to make sure I have the correct shield first! Any help would be great as I'm at a bit of a loss currently. My wikipedia username is Jaymsd23, and again sorry for just butting in on another topic, I couldn't see how to create a new one, I hope it isn't a problem. Regards, James.

Cordialement.

Image:Armoiries Chypre.png[edit]

Odejea, I love many of your blazons. I've uploaded a couple of them from French Wikipedia to Commons, and used more of them in Spanish Wikipedia. I don't understand much French, but the description of Image:Armoiries Chypre.png (d'argent, au lion de gueules, armé et lampassé de gueules) seems to include no golden crown. Is Image:Armoiries Chypre.png correct or is it another version of Image:Blason Léon.png (with a different crown)? Merci. --user:Erri4a User talk:Erri4a es:discusión usuario:erri4a 01:05, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Image:Metz.png[edit]

Cordialement. Odejea 11:00, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Category:Coats of arms of holy emperor[edit]

Bonjour Odejea, thank you for creating the coats of arms of the Holy Roman Emperors, it's really good work. However could you do me a favour? The current category is called Category:Coats of arms of holy emperor. I don't want to mess around with your work, could you please rename the category into "Coats of arms of Holy Roman Emperors", in order to make it consistent with the other categories concerning the Holy Roman Emperors, for example "Coronations of Holy Roman Emperors"? Could you also please list the corrected category with a |* in order to have it appear first. Your help is greatly appreciated, merci beaucoup, if you have further questions or need help feel free to ask me. Gryffindor 01:30, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

It's done. Odejea 21:09, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
C'est parfait, merci beaucoup. Gryffindor 21:22, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

contradiction[edit]

Bonjour!

Merci! 81.56.146.137 06:54, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

C'est fait. Merci de m'avoir signalé l'erreur. Odejea 07:16, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Palé de Barcelonnette[edit]

Bonjour,

Image:Armoiries Richard II d'Angleterre.png[edit]

Hallo. You have emblazoned the coat of arms of Richard II. I have noted, however, that instead of martlets (fr: merlette), five ducks have been used in the right half of the shield. Martlets have stubs or short feathers instead of legs and should resemble swifts (fr. martinet). See here or here. --AtonX 14:22, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I was wondering if it was at all possible if you could correct the above image? The martlets clearly look like ducks and shouldn't be. Thanks, Craigy 02:54, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure Odejea reads this talk page. You might want to try and contact him on french language wikipedia. Though to note, many french heraldists use that duck like shape for the martlet.--Caranorn 11:19, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice but I think that's a bit of a broad statement. IMO, it stems from the fact that the owner of heraldique-europeene lacks the correct clipart to display any other birds except ducks(!) Craigy 16:24, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Take a look at this link. Leudelange, this is the official site of a Luxembourgish municipality, using a copy of the official image and based on the blazoning: d'or à l'ours de sable au chef de gueules chargé de trois merlettes d'argent. The french merlette is of course the englsih martlet. I could probably find a dozen other examples (Armorials, or Heraldic Artists, not just individual arms). Personally I'm using a drawing based on a swift (then again, I almost exclusively deal with medieval arms) and dislike the duck like looks, but Arnaud Bunel (of Héraldique Européenne) is not the only one to use these.--Caranorn 13:03, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Ouch, I just took another look at the Plantagenet arms, this one is uglier then usual, and the beaks and legs are very prominent. So it definitely should be updated, but someone has to tell Odejea.--Caranorn 13:05, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Philip I of Taranto[edit]

(copying my comment at en Wikipedia) You've created Image:Armoiries Anjou Constantinople.png for his coat of arms during his first marriage, but I've read an article in JSTOR (Gerola, G. The Burlington Magazine for Connoisseurs (1928) 53 288, 293–295) which describes an enamelled casket once owned by the couple. The arms of Thamar are described as "a double-headed eagle or upon a field gules", rather than the Imperial device in the figure you've made. Also, looking at the illustration of the casket, the label in Philip's coat of arms is placed over the bend, not vice-versa. You may wish to correct it to conform to this historical example. Best wishes, and thanks for all your fine work making coats of arms. Choess 07:44, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

A question[edit]

Goodmorning,

I'm looking for the program or software you and other users use to make this coat-of-arms. I like Heraldry and I want to create blasons for wikipedia. How can I do it? Thank you very much. My e-mail for your answer: jbagesquerolb@yahoo.es

censure[edit]

You've censured the original description "D'or, à quatre pals de gueules (Barcelone)" clearing "Barcelone" in http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Aragon.png "d'or à quatre pals de gueules." and here http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imagen:Aragon.png

The really description is "D'or, à quatre pals de gueules (Barcelone). http://www.heraldique-europeenne.org/Armoriaux/Gelre/F62r.htm#1 This in the armorial de gelre but in the same page the description for Aragon is: http://www.heraldique-europeenne.org/Accueil.htm Royaume d'Aragon Aragon moderne - en réalité les armes des Comtes de Barcelone

i beg you to retract your censure in the description and write "D'or, à quatre pals de gueules (Barcelone)", and please, CHANGE THE NAME OF THE IMAGE, AT LEAST, ARAGON/BARCELONE. Thanks for not change the history! --Clonick 18:29, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Bien cordialement, Bruno 20:59, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Bonjour Odejea !
Cordialement. Peter17 13:07, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

File:Blason comte fr Bigorre.svg & co[edit]

Bonjour !

Coat of arms of Cerdanya (Cerdagne)[edit]

I've seen you have changed the coat of arms of the region, but I find it a bit strange (like Barcelona's coat of arms). I've checked the linked web, but also is too different to what is traditional seen. I mean, there are some other webs (no description of the coat of arms) where they show the arms in a sautor quartelation (sorry for this interlanguage mix :P). That is why I think the web you linked maybe do not blazon well this coat of arms. The spanish/catalan side of the Cerdagne use well the sautor quartelation. Some examples: here, or here, this showing the official design of the council body over the territory. Anyway, I couldn't find yet a fine description of it :( --HansenBCN (talk) 16:48, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Reference found! [1] Just for the County of Cerdanya. In the spanish wikipedia we use sometimes this web as a reference for meubles in heraldry and nobility heraldry of the Crwon of Aragon. --HansenBCN (talk) 16:55, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

comtes de La Marck[edit]

Salut Odejea,

Thank you for providing images to the Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

 • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
 • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikipedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best use CommonsHelper
 • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
 • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
 • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Personal Arms[edit]

I really love your work and would be interested in knowing if I could commission you to illustrate my family's coat of arms. Do you have a web page with your fees and services listed?

A bon entendeur...

Cordialement, Jimmy44 (talk) 13:44, 20 July 2008 (UTC).

Thank you.

Merci beaucoup d'avance ! :)

Hello, Odejea!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Question sur cartes[edit]

Bonjour,

Merci. -- Asclepias (talk) 18:29, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. (You can get a list of all your uploaded files using the Gallery tool.) dates in template[edit]

Hey. Can you add the period when a COA was used in your template? I guess the dates are as formal as the components. With files like File:Blason duche fr Anjou (moderne).svg and File:Armoiries Ducs Anjou.png, one can find out the history that made the arms evolve, but it will take no little effort. If you or whoever is contributing to the project with your template, noted the years when a COA was put in or out of use, that would be very helpful. Thank you.
