First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Hallo PMRMaeyaert, Neem het me niet kwalijk, maar ik was zo vrij iets, wat ik als typo zag, te corrigeren. De uitleg op keerzijde kan ik niet nazien omdat die niet beschikbaar is (of zie ik daar iets over het hoofd?) Mocht het een "zetfout" zijn, draai je het gewoon terug. Sans rancune? Thanks. Opnieuw dubbel[edit]

AUB stop met uploaden van dubbele afbeeldingen. Waarom doe je dit? Het kost de gemeenschap veel werk en frustratie. Bovendien zijn deze files niet conform de benoemingsvoorschriften upgeload.

Beste,
Bij heel wat bestanden die ik heb opgeladen in wikimedia Commons werden de bestandsnamen gewijzigd.
Dit is en was een groot probleem.
Veel van, deze bestanden wordenn overgenomen door oa Europeana. Een aangtal medewerkers heeft wekenlang moeten werken om een an ander recht te zetten, ik heb hen gehollpen door reeksen bestanden terug in te voern, met de originele bestandsnaam. Dit heeft heel wat werk gekost, en lang niet alles is inmiddels gecorrigeerd.
Sindsdien heß ik bij elk bestand de vermelding toegevoegd de bestandsnaam niet te wiçjzigen, in zes taleN
Ik hoop dat men in de toekomst de bestandsnamen niet meer wijzigt, en geen correctie's meer nodig zijn.

Dit is niet een erg zinnig verwijt. Paul Maeyaert heeft meer dan 47.000 foto's naar Wikimedia Commons gebracht, en die worden bijna 10.000 keer gebruikt op Wiki. Tussen die bijna vijftigduizend foto's zijn er een aantal foto's die identiek lijken. Maar wie naar de geschiedenis van het hier gegeven voorbeeld kijkt, ziet dat ik die als duplicaat had aangemeld, maar dat een Commons-administrator die in 2021 als (licht) verschillende versie beoordeelde. ...en opnieuw dubbele troep, wanneer wordt deze vandaal eindelijk eens gestopt met het verzieken van Commons (slechte benaming vd upload, dubbele troep, etc...)? Bovendien geeft hij zelf toe hierboven dat hij het niet onder controle heeft. Carolus (talk) 10:58, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Die (onterechte) beledigingen aan het adres van deze actieve inbrenger zijn volgens mij onbeleefd, onnodig en tegen de regels van Wikipedia. De feiten spreken ook in zijn voordeel: de door PMR Maeyaert ingebrachte foto's worden op de verschillende taalversies van Wikipedia op dit moment 9926 keer gebruikt. New uploads & 10k[edit]

Ensor: Red cabbage (1925)

Thanks for your new uploads. I noticed them a bit late, but some are really nice. I particularly liked the uploads of paintings by James Ensor from private collections, so thanks again for your efforts.
