Hi - i just saw that you uploaded several versions of the flag of poland. Plese do not upload multiple versions of the same image - scaling is done nicely by the software, and frames can be done using css-styles. Multiple version of the same image just lead to confusion and are much harder to maintain (info-pages, etc). I can not find a guideline here stating this, but i know it's policy on many of not all Wikipedias, for good reason. Thank you.

BTW: I like the Fragtals - i plan to upload a few more and create individual pages for Mandelbrot, Buddhabrot, Zirpinsky, etc. when I have more time. -- Duesentrieb 19:32, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Copyright Tags[edit]

Hi. Could you add copyright tags to the images you uploaded? For now I have tagged your images as "Unknown". If there are no tags, the image may have to be deleted. And, it would be good if you could add the tags to the page directly, not to your template. Thanks -- Chris 73 03:43, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Is there a tag for the Debian Open Use Logo License? The proper copyright notice and license is present in the descriptions so the status is not unknown, and I will add a Debian Open Use Logo License tag if there is one, or I can make a new template. Should it be named Template:DOULL with Category:DOULL? Thanks. Rafał Pocztarski 04:07, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Please make a new license, similar to Commons:Image copyright tags visual. Thanks -- Chris 73 04:49, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I hope it is correct now. Rafał Pocztarski 05:41, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Great. Thanks -- Chris 73 06:35, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, Debian's logo licenses are not compatible with Commons - they basically fit into {{logo}}. ¦ Reisio 06:19, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

It seems you forgot Image:Baby GNU.png when adding the tags. Could you add it? Thanks in advance. - Andre Engels 18:01, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I still have got no answer from the GNU webmasters, but the image has already been deleted so it doesn’t matter any more. Rafał Pocztarski 17:25, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

iw links[edit]

Rather than adding {{wikipedia}} just add interwiki links as i did here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=GNU&diff=0&oldid=27999 --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 12:23, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I will. Also, thanks for the tip with the <gallery> tag in your diff, I didn’t know about it. How should I add multilingual captions with <gallery>? I tried to change Warsaw but the <br/> gets included literally. Rafał Pocztarski 18:00, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Sadly, captions inside <gallery> are currently parsed with the same parser as the one that handles edit comment parsing, so they do not have full wikisyntax support, so thats a bit of a problem which will hopefully be solved soon. --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 18:44, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Is there anything I could do to help with that? Rafał Pocztarski 16:05, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I fixed it in cvs, see bug 1015. —Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 19:03, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I've made you an admin here on Commons. Congratulations! villy 19:07, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Image:Debian swirl.png[edit]

This has been discussed a long time on the debian legal mailing list. The image ist not free and must therefore be deleted on commons. There ist talk with the author but for the time beeing no chance of using it here. I know this is not a good situation but I can not change it :-( --Paddy 10:50, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)

FAL template[edit]

Hello, since you created/changed template:FAL you may be interested in Template talk:FAL. Thanks. --grin 12:34, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

License templates[edit]

Re: #Image:Debian swirl.png and #FAL template — If there is anything wrong with the Debian Open Use Logo License and Free Art License templates, please feel free to correct it. (The “false claims” were copied directly from the license text. The DOULL template was created from the DOULL as requested in #Copyright Tags above.) Rafał Pocztarski 15:45, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Image:Tux.png[edit]

I was looking for the transparent tux logo, and since you link so many times to it I thought you might like to know that at least there is no Image:Tux.png (anymore?). --Dittaeva 16:46, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Indeed, I uploaded both transparent and white background PNG versions of the Tux by Larry Ewing back in November. The transparent version seems to have been deleted in February by User:Paddy but the non-trasparent version and the Slackware mascot are still available in the Tux gallery. The reason of the deletion was apparently some unspecified copyright problem but I don’t know any details of what exactly was wrong with its license and why was it a problem only in the case of the transparent version. Nothing has ever been posted on Image talk:Tux.png. You will have to ask User:Paddy. Sorry about the inconvenience, I had no idea about the deletion of that image which I have indeed added to w:Tux, w:Linux and probably other articles on English and Polish Wikipedia. Thanks for pointing it out. Rafał Pocztarski 19:09, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I pointed it out because I am assuming that you are a admin and more interested in looking into it than I, sorry, don't think I will look further into it. I think we need image-undeletion. --Dittaeva 13:09, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I have already asked Paddy about his decision but I have not got any answer yet. Unfortunately there is no image undeletion but I was the one who edited and uploaded that image and hopefully I still have it somewhere. I understand that an important picture disappearing from many articles and templates on many Wikipedias at once is an issue, but I will not repost it until I know what was the copyright problem in question. Using other Tux pictures from the Tux gallery, like Image:Tux bg.png, is not a solution because they are released under the same terms, so either all of the pictures derived from the Tux by Larry Ewing will have to be deleted, or the Image:Tux.png will be able to get uploaded, which I will do as soon as possible, after I get an answer and know what was actually the problem. Thanks. Rafał Pocztarski 14:04, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I personally fail to see any “copyright problem” so not having got any answer, I am restoring Image:Tux.png. If anyone sees any licensing problem with the Tux pictures, please describe it on Talk:Tux or image talk pages before deleting them again. Thank you. Rafał Pocztarski 17:13, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Image, license, author,... are fine now. --Paddy 17:33, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Actually, nothing has changed since the deletion—I just undeleted the description page. But anyway, I understand that the Tux pictures can stay, so they can be safely restored in all of the Wikipedia articles. Thanks. Rafał Pocztarski 17:40, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I found a better Tux image – a bit smaller, but without edge aliasing and not dithered. I found it somewhere on the web and optimized the PNG. Perhaps you can replace the common image? Also, since this one is non-transparent, and all/most articles refer to the transparent, it may be better to rename the transparent one to something else and have this one take it's place. (What's the transparent good for, actually?) ++Ehudshapira 03:32, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Copyleft icons[edit]

Hi - thanks for the copyleft icons. As you may have noticed, I have created Image:Green copyright.png based on your work. It would be cool if you could dual license those under a CC license too (like CC-by-sa-2.0), or release them into the public domain alltogether (I'm not sure if a simple design like that can be copyrighted anyway). With the GFDL, it would be neccessary to print the full text of the license when one wants to use the icon in print - this is a little annoying... If you do, please let me know so I can change the license of Image:Green copyright.png too. thanks! -- Duesentrieb 22:51, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

I’ve released those icons under the GFDL only because it is the standard license for Wikipedia, but I don’t want to restrict their use in any way so I’ll just release them into the public domain. Thanks for pointing out the problem (and for your patience, I was away from Wikipedia for some time). Rafał Pocztarski 18:04, 19 May 2005 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch :D -- Duesentrieb 19:02, 19 May 2005 (UTC)

Please don't use templates at such an extend. --Saperaud 03:35, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

I've cleared out a bit. It's important too keep things simple. You can use templates to mark your images as yours with a license you want but please ro not implement any multireferent templete systems. They are unusable for others, the sourcecode is unreadable and any problems will end up that anyone has to understand your system because he has to fix problems with your images. --Saperaud 03:44, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Circuts[edit]

How have you created such good circut pictures?

I cannot find a way to do this.

Commons-l subscription[edit]

Hello Rfl,

as per Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.

If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence 23:12, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Admin news[edit]

Hello,

If you consent for statistics to be published about your actions as an administrator, please sign here: Commons:Administrator permission for statistics. (I expect that most people will not have a problem with it unless you are especially concerned with privacy.)

Also, please be aware that we now have a Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. Please put it on your watchlist, if you haven't already!
