Hello, Ricordisamoa!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Vector version available [edit]

Greetings, Ricordisamoa. You recently tagged "ILramzor2.png" with a notice to use "semaforo verticale.svg" If you look very closely, the colors are not the same. The color of "ILramzor2.png" (R-234 G-182 B-0) is the actual color of the Israeli traffic light sign. I hope you don't mind that I reverted your edit. I look forward to someone recreating the Israeli version using vector graphics. Kind regards, --@Efrat (talk) 12:50, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

@Atefrat: Excuse me, I appreciate your notice. I did not think that those very low color differences were so important. Then I retouched File:Italian traffic signs - semaforo verticale.svg picking colors directly from your image and uploaded the result as File:ILramzor2.svg. I am going to link that image as the proper SVG version. Feel free to comment further and revert the edit if necessary. P.S.: also made thinner the stroke of the triangle.--Ricordisamoa (talk but not stalk) 18:26, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Nice job, Ricordisamoa! Thank you. I will start using the svg. --@Efrat (talk) 18:39, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
I'm glad that you appreciated my job (although it was very easy) and noticed that File:ILramzor2.png is now orphan; maybe you would think to give File:ILramzor2.svg a more descriptive name (or expand the description). And remember that I are fully on hand for vectorizing many other images. --Ricordisamoa (talk but not stalk) 20:08, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
I thought it was appropriate to tag the "png" version for deletion. No need for it anymore. As for the "svg", the description is enough.--@Efrat (talk) 05:40, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

黒石市旗のSVGありがとうございます。 [edit]

始めまして、Mtiです。先ほどは黒石市旗のSVG化ありがとうございます。おかげさまで青森県の市町村旗のSVG化が進んできました。これからも宜しくお願いします。--Mti (talk) 03:26, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, I do not speak Japanese; with automatic translators, I understood that it's all OK, but if there is any problem, please talk to me in English, Italian, French or Spanish. --Ricordisamoa (talk but not stalk) 03:35, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

すみません。日本語がお話しできないんですね。申し訳ございません。(am sorry. I can speak Japanese, I do not. Sorry)

That is, I want to say is thank SVG flag into municipalities--Mti (talk) 03:44, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Monument of Nizami Ganjavi [edit]

Buongiorno, Ricordi. I'm user from Azerbaijan. The last year in your city, in your beautiful city was erected a monument of a very famous Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi. This monument was erected in Villa Borghese park (in Viale Madama Letizia). Could you make a photo of this monument and upload it to the Commons? Grazie per il vostro tempo)) --Interfase (talk) 17:00, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

There is no FoP in Italy: see Commons:Freedom_of_panorama#Italy. According to this the authors are "the well-known Azerbaijani artists Salhab Mammadov and Ali Ibadullayev", and so the monument will be in Public Domain (and thus reproducible) only after they're both dead from at least 70 years (according to the Italian Copyright). If you think that an exception could be made (perhaps if the monument has been performed in Azerbaijan), please reply. --Ricordisamoa (talk) 11:10, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

File:Civil ensign of Alawite State (proposal).svg etc. [edit]

Don't want to discourage your enthusiasm, but these strange unhistorical Gryffindor flags were really not worthy of getting vectorized versions (in fact, deletion would be more appropriate). AnonMoos (talk) 03:54, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

I simply wanted to add a reason for deletion, to get rid of these PNGs, then we can take our time and deal with SVGs later. Also, I am not sure that all fictitious/proposed flags should be deleted, only because they're 'unhistorical' - we have Fictitious flag for that. But of course, they are personal ideas of Gryffindor, and someone may not agree. --Ricordisamoa (talk) 09:00, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
There's no problem with fictional or proposed flags, if their fictionality or status as proposals is clearly explained. The problem is that Gryffindor seemed to present them as being historical when they were not historical, and was unable to explain with much clarity the purpose or motivation for creating the images. Anyway, it's actually more his problem than your problem, but I thought I'd alert you to the potential issue; thanks... AnonMoos (talk) 09:51, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

SVG headers [edit]

If you're working from a master list of SVG files without xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg", then if you felt like sharing the list, I could quickly fix all my own old uploads... AnonMoos (talk) 09:51, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

No: when I find one, I fix it. I wonder if there's a list of those files (maybe in Toolserver...) Ricordisamoa (talk) 10:44, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
OK; I fixed a number of images which stopped displaying in my gallery, or which I had uploaded since September 2009, when Bug 41174 kicked in -- but my records of my Wikipedia and Commons uploads before September 2009 are disorganized (I have almost all the files still on hard drive, but it's hard to know which versions were actually uploaded, so it's difficult to search for SVGs missing xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"). AnonMoos (talk) 15:25, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Bot [edit]

Ok, thanks for info. I managed to fix an additional seven or eight of my old uploads in February. I left File:POL Opalenica COA.svg in place as a "guinea pig" test image, since according to some of the people on Bugzilla it shouldn't exist -- an SVG file uploaded without xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" as late as April 2011 which still displays... AnonMoos (talk) 06:47, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

P.S. File:10th Panzer Division logo 1.svg in its original form didn't actually technically require xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg", since it had xmlns:svg="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" and all tags had svg: prefixes... AnonMoos (talk) 07:06, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, those files are still kind of strange -- it's up to you whether you want to include them or not... AnonMoos (talk) 12:04, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

My flags [edit]

Is ok to delete one of my flags only if there's a svg version of it, but I'm the original author, and the original idea is mine. I have all the right to put my username in the svg flag. Julius C (talk) 17:44, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

In File:Royal flag of Japan (Proposal).svg you deleted the authors information for File:Flag of Japan.svg, from which the SVG was created; I agree to credit your idea, but please do it in the proper way. --Ricordisamoa (talk) 01:24, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
Excuse me for eliminate the names, I thought that the work only you did it, I'm not an expert in SVG format. I already fixed it.
Julius C (talk) 18:58, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Thank You [edit]

Thank You for the translation of Insignia Catalonia/it.Cameta (talk) 10:22, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Opaque [edit]

Hello Ricordisamoa! I have a question: How does Opaque marked images get into Category:Images with opaque backgrounds? I guess not like this? Please fix it, thanks!! Ciao, --Mattes (talk) 09:57, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Flag deletions [edit]

Greetings, Ricordisamoa. I noticed all of the flag deletion notices. You may wish to take a look at French Mandate of Syria and Lebanon. Maybe it can help as a reference to defend the images as they are or, in some cases, to make adjustments to the images. Kind regards, --@Efrat (talk) 07:50, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

File:Flag of County Clare.svg [edit]

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I'm fine with it, I only uploaded it to provide a vector version of Flag of County Clare.png. --Ricordisamoa 05:46, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

User:SamoaBot [edit]

Congratulations! It has bot status now. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:50, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

I've already read of that, but I'm very busy now, so I'll operate it later. --Ricordisamoa 15:15, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
