[edit] Bilder gelöscht, Lizenz in meiner Schublade
Hallo Rimshot,
- Erst über ein viertel Jahr später stellst Du die Frage "Has the permission been filed with COM:OTRS?"
[edit] Conflict
Hi Rimshot, Perhaps you can help me; I need a third opinion to break a deadlock that I have with another editor, Cygnis insignis. In this particular case it concerns the question of which category the article Morelia (genus) should be placed in, although I suspect he would also like to have his way with the articles for the Morelia species below it. I tried to explain to him in detail my reasons for having organizing things the way I have, but while others are fine with this explanation, he simply rejects it on the grounds that it is illogical, or non-intuitive, and reverts my edits. Consistency or effort just don't seem to count for anything with him. Therefore, I'd be grateful if you could help out, or at least let me know where I can find this kind of help. Thanks, --Jwinius (talk) 18:30, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- Tree of life issues are discussed in the Tree of Life project. I don't really know how active that project is, but in theory it should be the place to go. My personal opinion on galleries and equally named categories is that the gallery should always be in the category. This is how it is generally done, too. The only area where it is not always done that way is the tree of life. If you don't get any response at the their project page, you can start a category discussion at COM:CFD. --rimshottalk 11:09, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Anomaly
Hi Rimshot, Would you be so good as to look into the following problem for me? It concerns this category view: Category:Colubridae. In it you'll see that, while most of the subcategories are indicated to contain subcategories and pages of their own, two of them also contain files. The first of these, "Dendrelaphis (3 C, 3 P, 2 F)" does indeed contain two files as expected. However, the problem is with "Drymarchon (1 C, 1 P, 1 F)," which is supposed to contain one file, but actually doesn't. There used to be a file there, but it was moved to a deeper subcategory some time ago. Is it perhaps because there still something there that I can't see? Thanks, --Jwinius (talk) 15:42, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
- Processes such as counting the number of files and pages in a category are rather expensive in terms of processing time, and therefore they are not executed all the time. This means that it may take some time until the numbers are correctly updated. If the numbers aren't updated in a few days though, you can ask at the Village pump, where the chances are higher of finding someone who can really help you. --rimshottalk 18:50, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
- This situation has persisted, I believe, for several months at least. I'll ask at the pump. Thanks, --Jwinius (talk) 21:59, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
- As opposed to its en.wp counterpart, this village pump is not a very lively place, is it? Cheers, --Jwinius (talk) 21:25, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
-
- You didn't ask at the Village Pump, but at its talk page. Anyhow, it is less lively than its en.wp counterpart. We simply have less users. --rimshottalk 22:12, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Seeing as nobody at the pump feels like addressing this issue. perhaps you can help with an new idea I've come up with. If the problem has something to do specifically with Category:Drymarchon, then deleting it and re-creating it may simply result in the problem resurfacing again. So, how about a different approach. I've just created a copy of the problem category, Category:Drymarchon-new. I would like to see what happens if we move (not delete) Category:Drymarchon to Category:Drymarchon-old, and then move Category:Drymarchon-new to Category:Drymarchon. I can't move a category, but I'm hoping that, as an administrator, you can. Afterwards, Category:Drymarchon-old can be deleted. So, what do you think; is it worth a try? --Jwinius (talk) 11:14, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- Never mind. Someone has just answered this very question over at the pump. Coincidence? Who knows. Unfortunately, though, it's not what I was hoping for. My idea would apparently has no effect whatsoever, Thanks anyway. Cheers, --Jwinius (talk) 16:07, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Commons:Deletion_requests/Category:Farms_by_country ++
Hi Rimshot!
I was checking Category:Unlisted deletion requests and noted some deletion request for categories of farms. I noticed that you substed some templates [2]. Can you remember what was going on?
All nominated but kept cats should have a {{kept}} on the discussion page (maybe both the specific one and the general one). If a {{delete}} is still pressent at the category it should be removed. If some of the categories was decided "deleted" the images should be recatted and the categories deleted. All deletion request should be closed. All deletion requests should be archived.
Will you have a look on it? --MGA73 (talk) 22:52, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- There was some discussion going on about the usefulness of the whole farms in XXX category. The way the discussion was going it seemed useful to move the whole discussion to the Categories for Discussion. The deletion discussions were closed, to centralize the whole thing. The category discussion was closed without much of an outcome, by another admin. The categories where all kept, excepting the unused ones. I never thought of adding kept notices to the talk pages, nor archiving the discussions, as that is usually done by a bot. The bot couldn't do its work, I guess, because the deletion discussions were never properly listed. If you have the time, could you take the appropropriate steps? Otherwise, should the discussions be archived at the date they were close, the date they were opened, or the current date? --rimshottalk 12:25, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
