Welcome!

Hello, Rogerd, and welcome to Wikimedia Commons. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

 • First steps
 • Babel guide - Commons is truly international, here's how to handle some multilingual issues
 • Commons FAQ - has some answers to common Commons questions
 • The Community Portal - has plenty more helpful links
 • A Gallery of your images - please correct any that are untagged or orphans (put them in a category)

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Commoner! If you haven't already done so, you might also want to open an account on a Wikipedia in your preferred language, or one of the other Wikimedia projects. By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, drop a note on the village pump, the Help desk, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Jkelly 04:23, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Love statue[edit]

One of the pics of the Love statue appears to be in Taiwan, which has FOP, so I removed the deletion request for that reason. The other one I removed the speedy deletion tag and asked for deletion instead so that people can vote on it before it is deleted. I think there's a valid reason it may not be a derivative work...it's not creative enough to qualify as it is just the word love written out. Well it may pass on those grounds. We'll see. -Nard the Bard 00:39, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

The Love statue is a famous work of art, and while I personally agree with you about its lack of creativity, I think it is recognized by the contemporary art world as an important work. A US postage stamp was at one time issued with an image of this sculpture. --rogerd (talk) 00:47, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Please[edit]

do not redirect between namespaces. Thanks, abf /talk to me/ 15:05, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

The article is not needed. It is just a gallery of images that is better covered by the category --rogerd (talk) 15:08, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Image:Shoshana Johnson.hug after landing in Kuwait City.jpg[edit]

Please provide more detailed source information than just "US Army". Image sources need to be verifiable by others, to confirm the copyright and other info. If this came from a website, give the URL. If from print or other media, give a citation. --dave pape (talk) 03:06, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

I transwikied it from en. I provided that same information that was there. --rogerd (talk) 03:07, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
I see. Well, that would be why it's good to use CommonsHelper, to know who's the original uploader to bug about the problem. --dave pape (talk) 02:39, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Image:Tu95ms001.jpg[edit]

Image deletion warning Image:Tu95ms001.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading Image:Tu-95-2.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you.

Image date[edit]

I have no idea when the image was taken. Perhaps some news article can be found tracing which she performed at that location. Many of the images I uploaded from that author had images from the '70s and '80s with no date. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 20:08, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Rogerd!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Categorisation[edit]

Hi Rogerd, you don't have to add Category:Astronauts from the United States here, see COM:OVERCAT. --myself488 (talk) 19:48, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

The image is my own, and is marked as much. It clearly says that I am the copyright holder and that I released it to CC. Your template suggests that I add the own template, yet in 2006, when I added this image, that template didn't exist. I feel that I added all of the necessary documentation to add my own work to commons as it applied in 2006, and don't feel that I should have to go back and add further information to all my old submissions as the rules change. --rogerd (talk) 21:10, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
