Image:800px-Diadochen1.png[edit]

Hi, please do not upload thumbnail images. As you can see, de:Bild:Diadochen1.png is three times larger. I suggest you upload the original version and tag the small version with {{db|thumbnail}}. Thuresson 16:22, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

An 800px image is hardly a thumbnail. If you want to reupload it you can Astrokey44 10:04, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Image:James bond world locations.PNG[edit]

Hello! Two things are not correct in the map. James Bond was a short time in Pakistan in the end of the movie The Living Daylights. And I think James Bond has been i China too. /E70 00:28, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

ok its fixed now Astrokey44 00:42, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Image:Commonwealth games 1962 countries map.PNG[edit]

Just a minor point - Pakistan shown on the map is the modern-day Pakistan. In 1962 the area now called Bangladesh was also part of Pakistan. Rhyddfrydol 23:50, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

this is also relevant to the maps for 1950, 1954, 1958 and 1966. Rhyddfrydol 00:06, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Image:Commonwealth games 1986 medal winners.PNG[edit]

One minor correction - your map shows Zimbabwe winning a medal. Zimbabwe boycotted the games - the medal was won by Botswana. Do you think you will be able to correct this? Rhyddfrydol 00:02, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Image:World map worlds first second third.GIF[edit]

Hi :). First of all, what a great job you've done with the maps! If I'm well, and Vietnam is part of the 2nd World, Laos should also do. ¿Could you please correct the map? --Galio 19:04, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Cat changes[edit]

Hi, sorry if this is a daft Q (still a lot to learn at Commons), but could I ask why Image:Okavango Water Lillies.jpg moved from Category:Okavango Delta to Category:Botswana? I thought the plan was to move pics from broader to narrower categories? Cheers, JackyR 22:21, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

sorry I made a mistake there, I was trying to move it out of Category: Africa into Botswana and accidentally deleted the delta cat, I have fixed it now Astrokey44 23:30, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Ah, thanks. In fact, Cat:Okavango is in Cat:Botswana, so is it OK to remove the "Cat:Bots" from this pic? JackyR 23:44, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Aren't you nice? Thanks, and g'night, JackyR 00:00, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Nice Map[edit]

I like the map you did of Presidential birth states :-). I love maps and I like the Presidential trivia lists, and the more maps the merrier. If you are interested, a map for the US House partisan mix shown at w:en:Partisan mix of congressional delegations would also be nice. Cheers, NoSeptember 13:32, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Image:Astronauts by country date first spaceflight.PNG[edit]

Thanks for the map. Could you increase the color range? It is hard to see the various shades of blue at the small size displayed in the article. It sort of looks like a two-color system at that size, which is misleading. I was thinking it was one color for self launches and one color for passengers until I noticed that China was blue, not green. 69.214.180.105 02:43, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

ok Ive widened it, hope thats better Astrokey44 03:14, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Image:Current account balance world.PNG[edit]

I was looking at that image and was wondering how would be best to categorize balance of payments and such, by date. Like, we should keep out of date material as an easy to find old data. Maybe we could name them as Category:Balance of payments and have the title by date? The same goes with exports and all economic data, we shouldn't overwrite and only keep an up to date version. We should keep all past versions easily organized because someday we'll probably have w:World trade in 1999 or something. gren 08:09, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Im not sure, since sometimes images are updated over, but other times they are left and a new image is uploaded.. Maybe a note could be left that the image should not be updated, instead update by uploading a new file - and then they could be categorised by year? Astrokey44 08:49, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Image:National Rugby League team locations.PNG[edit]

This is a pretty well done piece of work. However, I do have a couple of criticisms:

  • St George Illawarra are a current club, based in both St George and Illawarra. As such, both areas should have a square, as well as the circle symbolising the former teams (just as has been done with Wests & Balmain)
  • A key could be added within the image, to ensure it is absolutely clear what is symbolised by each square/circle.

Just my thoughts. 144.138.61.133 16:13, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

ok it has been updated Astrokey44 01:24, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Image:Palestine election map.PNG[edit]

thanks for this map; and I don't know what the NYT was thinking, but the Gaza Strip is all under Palestinian authority, so should be dark green throughout. Any chance you can change that? thanks. 70.72.48.71 04:01, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Do you have a source for this? Astrokey44 14:04, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Image:Domino's pizza world map.PNG[edit]

Thank you for creating this map. I am afraid that you missed some countries in this map, you missed at least one, Saudi Arabia has many "Donimo's Pizza stores. I think the map needs a bit updating, thank you --66.131.194.120 20:11, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Ok Ive added Saudi Arabia, were there any others missing? Astrokey44 00:44, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
I am not sure, I guess if you missed one you might have missed more then one. But I just wanted to alert you, thank you very much for taking the time --66.131.194.120 21:43, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Map of GDP in the world[edit]

Hi Astrokey44, are these figures in USD or in aother currency? Would it be useful to add this to the legenda? Regards, MartinD 08:31, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi Astrokey44, yes, I think that is the map I meant. I realise that PPP figures always leave some room for interpretation, but I think it would be a good idea to add that it's in USD, and not in EUR, GBP or any other currency. Regards, MartinD 11:34, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
On second thoughts, I think it's the 2005 version. But the issue remains the same, of course: to try to prevent our readers being incorrectly informed. BTW, my compliments for all those maps, an excellent contribution to Wikipedia! Regards, MartinD 11:37, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Well, those nice words are deserved! As to the $-sign: I'll leave it up to you. On one hand, there are serveral currencies denoted with this sign. On the other hand, we can expect the average reader to expect that this image would use one of the world's major currencies, so if it said "in $" it would probably be understood correctly as "US dollars". Regards, MartinD 05:08, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Image:United Nations member countries world map.PNG[edit]

Excellent work. Although I have a few suggestions:

  1. It'd be great if you can use another color to differentiate between the 51 original members who joined in 1945, from those who joined between 1946-1949.
  2. Right now, Yemen is showed as two countries. I know the two Yemens joined during different decades, but this is slightly confusing. Maybe you can use an inset similar to what you did for Eastern Europe.
  3. Shouldn't we also color French Guiana and Greenland?

That's all I have. It's not a big deal for now. Maybe you can make the changes after Montenegro is accepted in the UN. Chanheigeorge 19:19, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

That's quick! Thanks pal! Chanheigeorge 08:06, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Just a slight problem with the new map: Taiwan's color is different from China's! Chanheigeorge 18:35, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, I've changed it myself and uploaded the new file. Chanheigeorge 19:07, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

I've uploaded a modified version at Image:World cup countries best results and hosts 2.PNG, with, in my opinion, a more intuitive color scheme. What do you think? Udzu 16:37, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

The one with satellite photo background actually might work better as a GIF, since it's only 256 colors, and Wikimedia software actually handles PNG thumbnails worse than GIF thumbnails in some cases... AnonMoos 15:19, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Better idea: Mobile phone use percentage by country. e.g. Gambia 175,000 : 1,641,564 = 11 % --Atamari 23:21, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Map request[edit]

Hi! You seem to create a lot of maps, so...

Could you create a version of Image:BlankMap-Europe-v3.png which includes all relevant borders just like Image:Europe blank map.png? (With or without the overseas territories, I can remove them myself later if I don't need them.) I need it for EU-related maps which need to include the Caucasus and Northern Africa... Would be greatly appreciated! —Nightstallion (?) 18:49, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Regarding my goof[edit]

Hi! My bad—this was sitting unsaved in an browser window for a couple of busy days.

I see you've been adding content to Category:Navigation Templates, which is unfortunately, somewhat misnamed (My goof!), doesn't match the naming conventions, and needs to be deleted. I'm tagging it with a {{category redirect}} after I finish this note, and will see about recatting your templates. (Which I did around the time of composition—in another window, alas! Also moved (re-catted) your work, if you hadn't noticed yet.)

Look good, btw! Kudos. (Don't get a swelled head though, I'd appreciate better edit summaries—it took me a while in history diffs to find when you'd added the 'errant category'! <g>)

Looks like you simply want to be adding 'AL' to the end with proper 'First word' (and/or only 'proper noun') categorization names (See the wikipedia page via the interwiki cat link) and using category:Navigational templates. Note the tie to en.wikipedia, and 'main article' on same.

You may want to help us find a better name here on the commons for Category:navigation templates (Note the capitalization diff), which should be auto-categorizing any template you are developing for here and the various wikipedias; note the name diff now with en.wikipedia due to a formal Cfd outcome (w::Category:Wikpedia navigation templates. (I haven't tested your templates yet to see if they are on en.wikipedia yet(Aren't ported--do you plan to do so?), but those listed (WikPtmpX) would be the proper set of interwiki templates to add the cross-link and auto-categorization therein. They must be used inside a noinclude block!) See the templates {{WikiPtmp}} and {{WikiPtmpM}}, which are to tag such templates as have cross-sister-project spans, despite being modified when necessary. (This is all very new and just shaking out into a semi-stable state.)

I just tested your WWII maps... cool project! I added 'Category:Maps|World War II' to the main category. Also changed the Navigation Template to Navigational templates, and stubbed in the {WikiPcat} inside a inline comment. Great job though! I'm impressed! (also into history! RU a member of the Military History Project? Should join, if not.) As I modified the above, did the same for your other templates... which is probably why I didn't finish this. Best regards // FrankB 02:23, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Try: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:WW2_month ... as a promissary note on a longer conversation. And yes, depending upon the target use, I was talking about porting templates project to project... They aren't necessarily identical when fixed-up, but depends on need. See Category:Navigation templates (Name sucks, but that's a long story) for some that have been moved here.
Btw(1), I tried the space template in your WW2_month need, flunks royally. The system software doesn't like two spaces near one another. Another thought would be to create a div style 'Region' of short height on that line, and set the width to suit, perhaps by specifying pixels. Gotta get some shuteye. Sorry for the confusion.
Btw(2) - had a longer answer put up and browser dropped the buffer. See Category:Middle Ages and follow the links... especially the interwiki link. Also: Category:Maps_showing_11th-century_history, and {{Middle Ages Tall}}... which I imported just to show you and see what I can do to fix it for maps or related categories here. Too tall for Cat pages!

Surprise 'presents'[edit]

See: :Category:History of the United States and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_United_States#Formation_of_the_United_States_.281776-1789.29 ('cept for the nesting </nowiki>'div sytle', and '/div'</nowiki>, the template ported needed no changes (I think I added a cat or two). I loved the animation by the way. // FrankB 21:22, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

P.S.- May want to change the template background color slightly towards grey. Note how it vanishes into the article background. Alternatively, put a thin (1px) border around it. I'll shut up now <g>. // FrankB 21:26, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
