Grazie.--Triktrak 16:27, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

"Wikipedia loves Petersburg" contest results are summed up[edit]

Wiki Loves Monuments Logo notext.svg

On November, 1 the winners of the contest "Wiki Loves Monuments" were announced.

It was difficult to select the winners. More than 450 users participated in the contest, having uploaded more than 4400 photographs. The Organizing Committee thanks everybody who took part, tried their hands, and agreed to make their work available to the whole world. There is fascinating work ahead of Wikipedia users: To employ the images to illustrate the articles in Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia which is available in 270 languages.

Do not get upset if you have not won. Look into Wikipedia articles - you may soon find your work there, to help people to visualise the buildings you have taken photographs of. Besides, we will contact you to hand you in a souvenir to recognize your particiation. We hope you will accept this sign of our gratitude.

If you have a chance, you can visit the exhibition of photographs, which has been organized in Saint Petersburg and shows some of the photographs submitted to the contest.

We hope you will participate in the future competitions planned by Wikimedia RU and thank you for your contribution.

You can ask any questions about the contest by sending an e-mail to info@wikimedia.ru.

Sincerely,
In the name of the Organizing Committee,
Lvova Anastasia.

Sant'Alessandro Lucca[edit]

A presto allora, ciao Triktrak/Gpcarrai --Triktrak (talk)

ru:Файл:Ugolino della Gherardesca by Francesco Mallegni forenistic.JPG[edit]

Hello, my dear. Listen, I have an idea I want to share and get help from you. Last year I find the Russian scientist who did Forensic facial reconstruction of Russian tsarinas, etc. - basing on the skulls. And he wrote the OTRS for wiki. And there is another one in Italy, he did Ugolino (see subject of topic - I've uploaded it as fairuse), Dante and other sweet persons. His name is Francesco Mallegni, there is an article about him[1], and other publications in Google. It seems he is not opposite of PR. I think it will be great to write him e-mail to ask him same permission. I found empty page of facebook[2] and page on the University site[3]. Can you try to write? (I think, your Italian will be better for understanding than my Russian-English). My method for asking not PD pictures from living people is like this: "Hello, there is an article we did about you, dear sir, in Italian Wikipedia - it:Francesco Mallegni. Can you check the facts? By the way, can you give us permission for photos? Your Russian colleges already did it". (I believe he is сosa mettere? And Russians scientist simply in this subject are famous, it can help psychological). So, what you think? --Shakko (talk) 11:12, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Sant'Alessandro Lucca (2)[edit]

A risentirci Triktrak/Gpcarrai --Triktrak (talk)

Affreschi pompeiani[edit]

Ciao Sailko.

Ciao. --DenghiùComm (talk) 16:19, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

subcategory of "Category:Paintings in the Uffizi Gallery - Room 9, Pollaiolo's" Ciao Sailko. I'd like to ask you not to use the "Rijksmuseum" as subcategory any longer, better in my opinion is to use it as a link. Thank you --Oursana (talk) 18:19, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

File:Arnold böcklin, orlando furioso, 1901, 02.JPG etc.[edit]

Hi Sailko, I noticed that you have licensed three of these photographs with a Creative Commons license. However, these do only show the original artwork by Böcklin which is in the public domain. There's an official position by the Wikimedia Foundation that photographs of two-dimensional artwork are automatically in the public domain where the copyright term of the object itself has expired, regardless of the photographer (Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag). So I'd like to ask you to relicense those files where you don't show the frame or the wall around the paintings with {{PD-old-100}}. Regards, De728631 (talk) 21:55, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Grazie, Sailko. I'm going to adjust the licenses. De728631 (talk) 21:09, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Tiepolos in Strasbourg[edit]

Hello Sailko. I would like to upload reproductions of the two Tiepolos (father and son) of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Strasbourg, both of them quite pretty. Unfortunately, the only versions that can be found on the net are unbelievably small (http://www.musees.strasbourg.eu/index.php?page=XVIIIe-siecle). If you have some book in which larger photos can be found, it would be very nice and gentile to scan them for us. Mille grazie! --Edelseider (talk) 09:31, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

"Jewellery" (or jewelery)[edit]

Hi Sailko - Please note that in English, unlike French & maybe other languages, "jewellery" only means stuff you carry on your body or clothes for adornment. Large metal plates, chalices, forks etc etc are "metalwork" or "silverware" if silver, and so on. The categories should be "metalwork" for most stuff. Thanks - hope you are well. I am trying to clean these categories up, slowly. Johnbod (talk) 16:16, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Being English, I go for "jewellery", but some cats use the American. I've just done Category:Metalwork in the Cabinet des médailles, Paris, with the Jewellery as a sub-cat, & so on. Johnbod (talk) 16:42, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Please check. I think you named the wrong file.Oursana (talk) 09:50, 22 June 2012 (UTC) O.K. It is not only the wrong filename. File Chiostro dei voti, franciabigio, natività della vergine.jpg is missing and "Betrothal" is uploaded 2 times with wrong and correct name, so the file with the wrong name should be deleted as duplicate. Oursana (talk) 10:04, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Why?[edit]

Hello Sailko,

why did you create a duplicate by uploading File:Neckarsulm StDionysius Carlo Ceresa.JPG? If there is something wrong with the image description, please correct it, and if there is something wrong with the file name, please use the File renaming process, but please DO NOT simply upload a duplicate! Also if there is something wrong with either image name or description, please comment on it when editing so other will know why you did it.

So, once again the question: Why did you upload a duplicate? Regards --Rosenzweig τ 16:47, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

copied from User talk:Rosenzweig

The filemane was wrong, so I renamed it and reuploaded. This is the way I know to do it, sorry!! There was an article in an italian newspaper about the mistake of this picture, we were quite embarassed in it.wikipedia, so we had to correct it quickly! Here and here. You should be a little more careful before spreading your image in something like 10 wikipedia, saying it is by a painting by an artist that was actually 8 years old in 1581. So I think the most important thing was correcting the mistake quickly, I am sorry if I somehow ruined your stats, but if you want, for revenge, you can re-upload one of my 30k pictures, so we will be ok? Sorry again. --Sailko (talk) 20:26, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

end of copy

Thank you for your answer. You did this the wrong way. It's like I wrote: If there is something wrong with the image description, please correct it (by editing it), and if there is something wrong with the file name, please use the File renaming process, but please DO NOT upload a duplicate. If it is urgent, find an admin at the administrators' noticeboard, a filemover (List of filemovers), ask for help at the Village pump, at it.wp or elsewhere, but still do not upload a duplicate and then try to have the original file deleted as a "duplicate", that's the wrong way to do it. This is not about "somehow ruining my stats" (I did not upload that file), but simply about preserving the proper file history and all versions. Your duplicate omitted the first, original and unedited version of the photograph, for example. I have now deleted your duplicate and moved the original file to the new filename proposed by you, and I have also corrected the description citing that newspaper article, so everything should be in order now.
As I said, I did not upload that image, nor did I write the wikipedia article about the church it is in. I had a look at the guide book for the Neckarsulm churches, however, and in there the image is indeed stated to be from 1581 and by Crespi, who is said there to be born in 1557. That birth year seems to be wrong, but when you look at the way it is presented there, a 1581 painting from a painter born in 1557 seems not to be too outlandish. At least it sounds better than a 1581 painting from a painter born in 1609, which is what is now stated in several articles after your edits. It seems a more solid source than that newspaper article is needed. Regards --Rosenzweig τ 21:15, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
I've looked further, and in the official book about the history of Neckarsulm (Neckarsulm. Die Geschichte einer Stadt, 1992), that painting is also stated to be by Crespi, twice, but without mentioning a year. So the people who uploaded the image and wrote the article are hardly to blame, they merely wrote what is printed in the books. I'd be rather interested in how the author of that newspaper article determined the painting to be by someone else. He does not say how, merely states it as fact. --Rosenzweig τ 21:41, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

File:Pietro lorenzetti, crocifisso di cortona.jpg[edit]

Im not sure if this even worth tagging as {{non-free frame}} or directly as a copyright violation. Im realy not sure why you claim that this is an 2D object. --Martin H. (talk) 19:43, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

With your upload you accertain that "This is a faithful photographic reproduction of an original two-dimensional work of art". Is it?? No, it is not. So dont say such wrong things. We have a clear policy, COM:PD-Art, scans or photos of e.g. coins are not allowed, and this is not so much different. In fact you claim that this is covered by Bridgeman vs Corel which it is clearly not. --Martin H. (talk) 20:04, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
P.s.: and "the frame is deminimia" is nonsense. We not talk about the copyright on the frame design. We talk about the photographers copyright. And for copyright in a photographic work it is very unimportant how large or how significant the object is, only the act of making a photo (of an 3D object) matters. You abuse COM:ART, stop this. --Martin H. (talk) 20:12, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Its not that I can crop it... we must crop it because the claim "this is 2D" is simply the untruth and the policy COM:ART not covers it, although it is claimed by you that the policy covers it. I think you not see the problem, right? I fear you not see how problematic it is having an expirienced user on Commons whos uploads contain very little information, and the description they contain is not even true and legaly problematic. --Martin H. (talk) 20:22, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Obviously you not care. Thats a lazy excuse for you but problem for the project. 3D is 3D, there is nothing to discuss. Claiming that 3D is 2D is factually wrong. 3D not falls under Bridgeman v. Corel, you cant claim that it does. Especially not from your Italian perspective. In Italy this photographic reproduction is 100% protected for twenty years no matter the object is 2D or 3D, see Commons:Reuse_of_PD-Art_photographs#Italy. In the US this 100% is protected because it is 3D and the exemption of Brdgeman v. Corel not applies according to the General Counsel. So I dont see how you can speak of problems that not exist. --Martin H. (talk) 20:38, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Dear Sailko

I am a graduate student in London and am currently writing a paper about Cigoli. I have tried to do some research about this facade which you kindly uploaded an image of, but have struggled to find anything about it. Do you remember which museum the object is held in? I assume that it was never built? There is no mention of it on the website for the Accademia Del Disegno Florence.

It's only a very small issue in my paper but I would love to know more if you could help in any way.

Very best Sarah

Dear Sarah, if look at the categories of the image you can spot where the work is kept, in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Florence ;) The project was never built and it came with others by more Florentine artist of the time, during a contest. Can you read some Italian? I wrote about the contest in this page in it.wikipedia: it:Facciata_di_Santa_Maria_del_Fiore#Demolizione_e_nuovi_progetti. For further reading I sugget the book "AA.VV., Il museo dell'Opera del Duomo a Firenze, Mandragora, Firenze 2000. ISBN 88-85957-58-7", after that you can get more bibliography. You can also get in touch with the museum, I am sure they will help you too. Let me know, ciao!

Hi Sailko, you uploaded the above file a while ago with a {{permissionOTRS}} template, but didn't specify a ticket number (the one later specified is invalid) or a license. I don't suppose you remember or could find the ticket number (it would be 16 digits, starting with a date in ISO format, like 2012100200000001)? If not, can you remember any details about the ticket, like the email address of the sender (feel free to email me if you don't want to post it publicly)? I need to be able to find the ticket so I can find out which license the copyright holder wants to use. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:04, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello! This is Enrique Marín, From México, i work as a editorial coordinator form gallery Terreno Baldio Arte (www.terrenobaldio.com) We are the official representatives of artist Javier Marin, do you know him? (www.javiermarin.com.mx) hope yes. Ok i write you because we are making a new book about his work, and there are many people writing about it, one of the most importan is the Dr. Braunstein, form UNAM , National University in Mexico. He is using some images in his text, there is one (as attachment) that i found in internet that you own, is that true?

So i ask you if you are the owner of this picture, I wonder if you give us permission to use it in the new book, of course with your credit, and of course let me know how much that will be cost. Hope you like Javier Marín work, and hope you like to be part of this. Waiting for reply, regards. Very best regards from Ireland and many thanks for the offer Notafly (talk) 13:31, 13 October 2012 (UTC) Ps. I put a note here [9] Lack of fop in Italy has led to my photos of EUR (Roma) being deleted an I am expecting similar problems for other Italy pics . My own view is that no action should be taken unless an institution or city authority insists. I think this would be a rare event.

Thankyou for your prompt reply and kindness. You took this picture [10] Near are other plant houses containing cycads [11]. I would like a photograph of the interior of this cycad plant house and any others nearby. If I remember correctly the cycad house is in this building [12] Also I would like a replacement for this photo [13] I hope to use all on the English language page [14] which I will base on the Italian page which uses your other pics. I am less sure that it really has to be interpreted in this way.In one instance I had permission from the artist and in another from the architect but the pics were still deleted.May be worth a try though.

File:64.2 impresa.jpg[edit]

Hi Sailko!

The section title image has something in the center above the pedestal that is somewhat unclear. The object appears somewhat tubular and may be a horn or musical instrument. Can you obtain a clearer image from the source book? Or, maybe just a higher magnification, sharper image of this object. The object appears to be pointed toward the face-like circle on its right.

Thank you in advance for any effort you can make. Marshallsumter (talk) 03:15, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

FYI[edit]

Hi, please see there: Commons:Forum#Bildrechte_und_Italien. By the way - You're categorization is very bad. There are for example a lot of ceramics labeled as "etruscan" - but they are not "etruscan", but attic and maybe korinthian. Marcus Cyron (talk) 15:16, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Filemover[edit]

Hi Sailko. I've given you the filemover right after seeing several valid rename requests and in consideration of your extensive contributions and experience. You're free to continue using rename requests if you'd like; I just wanted to give you the option of moving files on your own. INeverCry 01:05, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Provenienze geografiche[edit]

--Decan (talk) 08:39, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Barnstar[edit]

Barnstar-camera.png The Photographer's Barnstar
For all the photos you've uploaded to Commons. They are all much-beautiful! Barnstar for having given artistic value to other places and buildings that a person would never dream were artistic. MIBAC should give you a prize for showing and why your pictures show much of the Italian artistic heritage. Today I don't want to give you bad news, but the lack of Freedom of Panorama in Italy would make delete many. Hoping I'm wrong, again thanks from me. Raoli ✉ (talk) 21:35, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
--Sailko (talk) 23:10, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
Raoli ✉ (talk) 23:13, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
Ok, immaginavo, proseguo da solo allora. :) Ciao Raoli ✉ (talk) 23:44, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

I removed the frame from one of your photos[edit]

Regarding this photo of yours,

I have removed the frame and reuploaded it with a PD-Art license here: File:Willem_Claeszoon_Heda,_Natura_morta_con_brocca_d'argento_e_torta,_1645.jpg

If you would not like me to do this to any more of your pictures, please let me know. Thankyou for taking the photo! --Moogsi (talk) 11:54, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

It's the change of license I was concerned about. Removing the frame makes the image public domain. I was asking if it's ok for me to do this --Moogsi (talk) 12:10, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Complimenti :-) --94.38.225.49 16:01, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello,[edit]

Hello,

I wanted to keep you informed of the modifications I made on many photos of Art you imported.

In order to document the pictures, I put your name mention in the "Source" field, like here for instance, and the {{creator}} template of the Artist in the "Author" field.

I also tried to make a description from the title and moved your License frame in the "license" part of the page, with the convenient {{PD-Art}} license for the painting (for paintings).

I hope you agree with these changes, that are intended to clarify who is the artist, and who made the photo Smile

If you disagree with this, or have suggestions, you can contact me on my discussion page - I don't want to "break" your work, I try to make it even more valuable with easy identification of artworks.

Thank you for your beautiful pictures ! --Hsarrazin (talk) 16:55, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Category:Coins of Louis XI of France[edit]

Hi,

I have renamed "Category:Coins of Louis XI of France" to Category:Louis XI of France on coins since it is more in accordance with the usual naming convention.

Thank you,

Elfix (talk) 13:06, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

This isn't true. The naming convention is X on coins (when X designates a very particular thing). It isn't normal that whole category doesn't respect the usual naming conventions. I've noticed that most of these subcategories you have showed me have been created by the same people: they are therefore not representative of the usual naming conventions for coins on commons. See for example Category:Coins of the Kingdom of Italy‎, Category:Persons on coins‎, Category:Gods on coins‎, Category:Coins of the United Kingdom‎, etc.
I believe all the subcategories should follow that convention since it seems to be more widely applied than Coins of X and is more convenient in practice.
However, I do not understand your first remark about Louis [not being] on every single coin relased during his regn: I only changed the category name, did I do anything else wrong? Elfix (talk) 16:05, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I now understand the nuance. Sorry for the inconvenience. Elfix (talk) 09:00, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Sebastiano Ricci[edit]

Hi, I took a photo of this lovely Ricci painting in Mulhouse, France, and asked for somebody to remove the borders as I can't do it properly, only roughly. But no one has reacted yet, that's how it goes when no one is paid :). Since you are the specialist for Italian paintings here, maybe you could be so kind? Molto grazie! --Edelseider (talk) 11:00, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
