Image:I-635 strip map.svg[edit]

I have seen your creation of Image:I-635 strip map.svg at Interstate 635 (Kansas-Missouri) but I am wondering how to do a svg file and how do I edit it to add the new Horizons Parkway, which it does not show on your map. Another problem with the map is that you show K-5 cutoff from US-69. Also I want to redo the map to show the originaly proposed alignment of I-635 on this map or a seperate map. 72.129.239.80 09:54, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

I saw that you said public domain, but I wasn't sure about the source license. Was it originally public domain, and you just altered it? If that's the case to avoid it ending up on problem lists you can add PD-user. If that is correct and you are not sure how to add the license tag just let me know, and I'll be glad to help. If the original image is not public domain though, this image isn't either. - cohesion 02:03, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Kansas shields[edit]

Even inaccurate shields would be ineligible (if these are indeed ineligible, which I feel they are perfectly fine and in the Public Domain), since a copyright extends to the idea. That's exactly why we can't take a green square, put a PD image of Ohio in it, and write "OHIO TURNPIKE" inside of it. I've tried to find a way around it. Although PennDOT uses a white-on-black image of the Pennsylvania Turnpike shield for all their signs, while the Penn. Tpk. Commission uses their copyrighted green shield. I suppose that's a way around it. But just a heads up. I'm no lawyer, and I have no clue about PD and route shields. I just know it's hard. This really shouldn't be a problem, though. --MPD T/Cw:T / w:C 21:02, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Sign categorization[edit]

Hello. On this edit to Image:JeffParishOldJeffersonSignRiverRoad.jpg you changed the category from "Road signs in the United States" to "Roads in Louisiana" with the edit summary "More specific sign cat". Actually, "Roads of Louisiana" is not a sign category at all, it is a road category. You have removed any category reference to signage. As this image is more focused on the sign than the road, I am therefore reverting your edit. If you thing there should be more specific sign categorization (for example, "Road signs in the United States" could be subcategorized by state; I note that there already is a subcategory for "Road signs in California") you can create such categories. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 14:32, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

I notice you have removed a great many images depicting signs from sign categories. Could you please explain what you are doing? Wondering, -- Infrogmation 14:46, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your note. State subcategories are fine by me. Note my objection was the removal from any sign related category-- state road sign categories should be subcategories of "Category:Road signs in the United States" in addition to the state related category. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 20:04, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Hey, I notice for example here that it is clearly an image of a sign, but you are removing it from the United States signs category without putting into a subcategory like Category:Road signs in Oklahoma. Make sure sign photos are still in some subcategory of signs, right? The point is for people to be able to find them. Thanks, -- Infrogmation 20:19, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

In this edit, there was no "gah"; you had it right before! If a state road sign category you'd like to use doesn't exist yet, spend 5 seconds to create it. Is this clear? Thanks, -- Infrogmation 20:29, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Hola

There is a similar problem with Category:City limit signs and Category:Road signs in the United States. Each of them provides an information the other doesn't, id est, none of them is a subcategory of the other so an image can be linked to both of them at the same time ¿De acuerdo? --Javier ME 22:02, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Hola de nuevo

Of course you can substitute the direct link to a parent category by a link to a more precise subcategory, and it should not cause any revert wars if you did it correctly. You could delete the link to Category:Road signs in the United States if you added a link to Category:Road signs in California, or a hypothetical Category:City limit signs in the United States (like here), but if one deletes a link to a correct and useful category without providing the link to any of its subcategories like here, you can expect that someone's gonna correct the edition. Hasta otra, --Javier ME 21:03, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

I am the original creator and uploader of the above image. I note you were able to make some changes on the map. Thank you, I can see where your changes, in making the map I designed consistent with a standard legend format, makes the map easier to use and was a definite improvement. This is why that I uploaded it in SVG format, maps need to be able to be changed and it's easier to do so using a raster format over a bitmap. RTCNCA 22:36, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, dropping by after reading your nomination. Commons is set up a little differently from en:wiki. Featured picture promotions here run closer to pure photographic merit and downplay encyclopedic usefulness. Suggest you try the valued images program with a good explanation of what the image depicts; that's the Commons recognition for useful illustrative photographs (en:wiki doesn't quite have a parallel). Best wishes, Durova (talk) 20:27, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Image:Interstate 381 Virginia.gif[edit]

I found 75.47s IP put a blue Duplicate tag on that image for csd when it does not meet criteria. That tag is only for images totally duplicate while that and Image:I-381 (VA).svg is actually different. For my vote is gray equal or neutral-meaning I don't care if we delete or save it. I just fix it for that user, because he just think he can file a sd tag, and gets thing instantly deleted. I will like to see your vote about it, because this one is historical interest like black, blue, gold US shields even green background had once been used in Flor. This image is an old MUTCD sign drawing when white text is bolder and fits to F Series. Image:I-381 (VA).svg uses C series and the blue is duller. let me know what you think, and don't let 75.47 IPs vote too much.--Freewayguy What's up? 06:18, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Scott5114!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
