Many Thanks[edit]

Dear Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington,
Thank you for taking part in my Requests for Adminship. The RfA was successful and I am now an administrator here. There were concerns over my temperament from respected editors, and I have taken these concerns on board, with the aim of being a more polite and courteous administrator both here and on the English Wikipedia. If you need help with anything, here or on the English Wikipedia, such as history from deleted images and such, please don't hesitate to shout. My door is always open, so to speak. deprecated function in your monobook.js[edit]

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

To allow us to remove includePage from Mediawiki:Common.js I'd kindly ask you to replace its use with importScript (same syntax!). Thanks! --Dschwen 17:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Done. Thanks! --Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington 15:38, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Image:Koichiro Matsuura.JPG[edit]

Hi, Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington. I found you uploaded Image:Koichiro Matsuura.JPG, the Director-General of UNESCO, and am very curious what the red spot on his face is! Would you kindly add the information about the red spot? Thank you. --miya 12:45, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey. Please view Tilaka. He was in India for a conference. :) Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington 12:50, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hindi translations needed[edit]

Hi! I contact you as you speak Hindi and Farsi.

Jastrow and I are working on autotranslating Meta information museum, the meta-template we use for many museums, like Information Louvre. Could you please help us find Hindi translations for every tag name:

 * artist/maker
 * description
 * dimensions
 * credit line
 * accession number
 * location
 * source/photographer
 * references
 * other versions

"Credit line" is mainly about the mode of acquisition: what collection does it come from? Did it join the collections by gift, purchase, on loan, etc.?

Thanks for any help. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 10:42, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Autopatrol given[edit]

Commons Autopatrolled.svg

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Thank you. — Tanvir | Talk ] 19:45, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Your photos in the WMF annual report[edit]

Hi,

as you may have noticed, two of your photos have been used in the recently published annual report of the Wikimedia Foundation. Printed copies of the report have since become available, and we would be happy to send you one as a thank-you for your work - let me know your postal address by email if you would like us to do so.

Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 21:45, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the message! I will send you an email in a minute. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington (talk) 21:47, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

File:China administrative.svg[edit]

I think the discussion is already done in the discussion page:"The purpose is to show how it is divided. The grey areas are included in China's legal divisions", and I am not a "single purpose account", your warning is funny and useless. Werran (talk) 07:03, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

File talk:China administrative.svg[edit]

Is there any reason why you have made controversial reverts at File:China administrative.svg, told users to take it to the discussion (quote "Please take this to w:en:Talk:China"), yet not reply to any of the issues brought up at either en:Talk:China or File talk:China administrative.svg? Many users are waiting for an explanation, and some are beginning to think that this is a simply a "revert and forget" on your behalf. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs 04:41, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Nothing controversial about my edits. The users who kept reverting did not challenge the edits on the China talk page of enwp. Can we take this discussion to enwp please? Thanks. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington (talk) 16:05, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Sorry[edit]

Wrong button here, sorry: I didn't mean to use rollback, I meant to use "undo". Rd232 (talk) 21:49, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

I think you should have taken this discussion to the admin noticeboard/village pump for further resolution instead of undoing a fellow administrator. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington (talk) 21:51, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
I'd rather avoid that fuss, and it should not be necessary, since there is no good reason to cut a mass DR short just because one of its files has recently been the subject of a DR. Rd232 (talk) 21:58, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

AN thread notification[edit]

Please see Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Commons:Deletion_requests.2FPolandball, relating to some of your recent actions. :) -- Cirt (talk) 17:04, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

You saw fit to enforce a speedy closure of a mass DR, which was speedy closed because 1 of the files had been recently "kept" at DR. Would you like to comment at Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Back_to_the_questions, please? Rd232 (talk) 00:13, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
