Wilhelm Reich - Why reverted?[edit]

Hiya.

Can you explain why File:Wilhelm_Reich_in_his_mid-twenties.JPG was reverted?

Harvest316 (talk) 03:54, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Harvest316, your upload overrode the image that was there, and replaced it with an entirely different one. If you want to upload yours, and if it is free (not under copyright), that should be done under a different file name. SlimVirgin (talk) 04:32, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

New right[edit]

Hi, per your comment at Magnus Manske's talk page, I just added the "image reviewer" right to your account. (See Commons:License review for details.) I believe this is the thing that will enable a new button on the Upload Wizard. You should be able to easily import files from Flickr, also entire sets, just by entering the URL (provided they are tagged with CC BY on Flickr). I think (but am not certain) this is separate from the Flickr2Commons tool. Give it a try -- I hope this helps! (ps -- now that you have the right, I believe you are also able to grant it to others at your discretion. Please take appropriate precautions that users understand our licensing policies if you do so.) -Pete F (talk) 00:45, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Pete, thank you, that's very thoughtful. It'll be a great help because I keep seeing multiple free images that would be good on Commons, but downloading then uploading manually is time-consuming. SlimVirgin (talk) 01:47, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Renaming[edit]

Hi SlimVirgin, I just noticed this rename, and wanted to remind you of COM:RENAME. "More descriptive" is not a valid criteria (and to be frank, changing a date to an author is only "differently descriptive" IMO anyway). Page name stability is more important on Commons than on en-wiki, because external reusers may link the original file name as part of the attribution requirements (and unused redirects are often deleted). Cheers. --99of9 (talk) 05:42, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Okay, thank you, 99of9, I'll bear that in mind in future. The issue is that I had uploaded another one a while ago with a more descriptive name, but it was a duplicate of this one, so mine was deleted. That left this one, calling it Marshalsea Jail (it's known as Marshalsea prison), and with a typo in the title. Because I use it in a featured article, I thought I would fix it, and it made sense to add the artist's name at that point, because we have so many images of the Marshalsea. But I do take your point about stability. Best, SlimVirgin (talk) 07:02, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
