Title 17, Ch. 1, Sec. 107 of the US Copyright law states that such Fair Use "is not an infringement of copyright."  Click HERE to read the statute.  While copyright infringement complaints must be decided on a case by case basis, the Supreme Court has determined that copyright law cannot be used for the sole purpose of suppressing ideas. --—Preceding unsigned comment added by Superchargedone (talk • contribs) 23:01, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Undeletion[edit]

Hi Sreejithk2000, it is only now that I noticed you deleted, in 2012, a picture I uploaded to commons showing a screenshot of the software litlink. Can you please explain what I have to do in order to prove that I am the copyright older, that is I am the developer of the software and thus entitled to produce and upload screenshots?--Nico b. (talk) 14:12, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

I could not find the image in your uploads. Can you let me know the the image name? Alternatively, you can put a request at Commons:Undeletion requests --Sreejith K (talk) 14:41, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Sorry for the omission, the image was Litlink_43a.jpg. On April 24, 2012 the CommonsDelinker bot removed the link from the German wikipedia to the picture because you deleted it from commons. We don't have to undelete that one but I would like to make sure that next time I follow the correct procedure to include the required prove of copyright.--Nico b. (talk) 18:10, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
I found the page now. The deletion reason says that although free to download, the software manual states the software is copyrighted and doesn't allow commercial use. To avoid such problems, make sure that the copyright is displayed correctly on the website OR send an OTRS email to record the free license. --Sreejith K (talk) 19:50, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
OK, I will look into the OTRS stuff. Thanks for your help!--Nico b. (talk) 11:51, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Sreejithk2000!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
