{{Unfree}}

Hello. I've reverted your changes to Template:Unfree/en and moved them to Template:Unfree/ml, which is the proper place for the translation. Please verify if Template:Unfree/ml is OK. Best regards, --Marco Aurelio (disputatio) 14:03, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

You are right. I do no remember now why I made that stupid error. Thanks for fixing it. --Sreejith K (talk) 16:01, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

I have created a regular DR to dispute the speedy delete of this as a duplicate. BrokenSphere (Talk) 16:41, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

SreeBot and File:Afro-Hispanic-Americans.jpg

Hi, Sreejith. I noticed that SreeBot recently moved File:Afro-Hispanic-Americans.jpg from the English Wikipedia. But it really mangled the description when it did so. You might want to take a look at what went wrong. —Bkell (talk) 04:11, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

The image's description page in en wiki was a tough one to interpret. I have fixed it now, I was too careless when I made the transfer. Thanks for the notification. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:19, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

File:Logo Air Berlin USA 1978.jpg

Hi there, in relation to File:Logo Air Berlin USA 1978.jpg I have removed the speedy deletion. I am trying to find a previous similar deletion request where a similar image was kept on the grounds of {{PD-textlogo}}. I have changed the licencing in line with that, however, if you think it should be discussed, please nominate it for deletion. In the meantime I will try to find the similar request, and if nommed for deletion I'll post the link there. As an admin, sometimes these things are borderline, and best to take such things to discussion. The other Airberlin logos are PD-textlogo, and hence aren't copyrightable. But they are subject to trademark, and I have noted them. One I did delete as a duplicate of another. Cheers, russavia (talk) 07:15, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

File:Concert Band.jpg

Hi, Sreejithk2000. SreeBot transfered File:Concert Band.jpg from en.wikipedia, but it listed the uploader as "author" instead of the original photographer from Flickr. I can't now see the original en.wikipedia page but this seems like a major flaw. Powers (talk) 18:04, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Looks like the en wiki page did not have the author info as well. The only thing the page had was the flickr url. I did put in {{Flickrreview}} to confirm the license, but was unaware that the bot does not correct the author. The en wiki admin who verified the bot move did not spot it either. But glad that you caught it. May be I should avoid transferring flickr images which is kinda complicated from a copyright prospective. --Sreejith K (talk) 20:01, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
It's up to you -- just so you're aware of the snag. =) Powers (talk) 14:19, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

File transfer issue

Hi,

File:Delphiroad.JPG seems to have been transferred incompletely, as the image had a big grey area at the bottom. I have since re-uploaded the full image, but any idea what happened there?

Regards,

fetchcomms 03:50, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

I actually download the files to my computer an reupload them to Commons while I make the transfers. Looks like somewhere in between the download and the upload, the file got corrupted, possibly because of my slow internet speed. I should have paid more attention. But anyways, thanks for fixing it. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:53, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
I had this happen once during a transfer, when I was trying to download/upload more than one file at a time, and I overwrote the old temporary file with new data. If your script downloads the file to the same file name every time, this may be your problem. Magog the Ogre (talk)

deletion tag

Hi Sreekenth, A deletion tag is placed on one of my photographs.http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dr_Riji_nair.JPG could you please tell me why it is tagged--Fotokannan (talk) 12:08, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

The tag says that the permission for the file is missing. So whoever has placed the tag thinks that the uploader (you) are not the author/copyright holder. Thats probably because the Author field in the page is confusingly long and is not quite obvious that its you, or may be that he thinks that the photo is of professional quality and might be taken from some other location. You can remove the no permission tag and explain the reason in the edit summary. Or you can send the permission to OTRS. The second option might be marginally better. --Sreejith K (talk) 12:55, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Sreebot feature requests/bugs

  • Please consider adding the EXIF and original date information above the original upload date. The reasoning: this information is more important than the upload date.
  • Please consider adding the original source information above the transfer information. So, instead of the form * Transferred by [[User:SreeBot]]<br/>\n{{original caption|TEXT HERE|nobold=1}}, instead use TEXT HERE<br/>\nTransferred by [[User:SreeBot]]".
  • Please consider not uploading all versions of a file's history when the versions are entirely unrelated (e.g., they should have been at different file names, were by different uploaders, etc.). The reasoning: the second image should not have been uploaded on top of the first anyway, and the versions need to get split anyway. You may been doing this anyway on more recent uploads though.
  • If possible, consider not adding the EXIF information if it's not relevant. This would include images of really old stuff (e.g., an old painting, but it has EXIF data because it was manipulated in Photoshop). If you're feeling particularly ambitious: try to not add the EXIF data if it looks like it's false (e.g., taken at 2004-01-01 at 00:10... this is probably because the camera has just been turned with the default date).
  • A minor note: it's redundant to have the code TEXT_A<br/>\n*TEXT_B; the break is unneeded. Instead you could do TEXT_A\n*TEXT_B.

Magog the Ogre (talk) 20:22, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I appreciate you taking time out to make this list. I have fixed all these in the bot script. Removing EXIF date for PD images is something I am working on right now, but since I preview the upload text before I upload the file, I will remove the EXIF and that should do it for now. Once again, thanks. You always have been a great help. --Sreejith K (talk) 07:52, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

No problem. No need to remove the EXIF data from the image itself, just from the description. Magog the Ogre (talk) 16:05, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi! The source oyu provided does not contain required data (author, creation date) for this image. This file has already [1] appearead on Commons before, but no valid source was given then, either. A.J. (talk) 09:43, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

This image is obviously taken during Napoleon era and hence is in public domain. Why would you even doubt otherwise? Unless we have a significant reason to doubt the age of the image, we need not put a no source tag. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:26, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
This could be a more recent illustration that happens to be in that style. I think the no-source tag is reasonable. Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:50, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Punjabi Maseet

It is very strange to me that a file name has been changed by you just because its name is Punjabi. Punjabi is the third largest language in South Asia after Hindi and Bengali. Cant is have a name for a mosque in Punjabi when 100 million Punjabi speakers are msulims. Tomorrow if someone request you to translate into Urdu all mosques of Spain and Germany into Urdu will you do?--Khalid Mahmood (talk) 11:37, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

If you see this diff, the rename request was put by another user. I felt that the request was appropriate and finished the request, but if you feel that the older name was better, we can revert the change. Please suggest. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:46, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Related revisions of a file

I would like to reiterate my request if possible to only copy over related revisions of a file. It can cause a bit of a headache performing the split on Commons. See File:Chinthes guarding Mandalay Hill.JPG and File:Chinese Pavilion (Pagoda) in Tower Grove Park.jpg, etc. Magog the Ogre (talk) 04:52, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

PS. It's better than it used to be (where it uploaded only the most recent version).

PPS.

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Thanks for the bot and the work uploading the files. One barnstar cannot justify the heavy amount of work you've done. Magog the Ogre (talk) 05:19, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Thank you Magog. To copy only the related revisions asks for some changes to my script. I do not remember you telling me that before, not sure why I missed it. Anyways, I will work on it as soon as my time allows me. Thanks for the suggestion. And by the way, I think you should seek for administrative privileges in Commons as well. It will make your routine tasks much easier. --Sreejith K (talk) 08:35, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Well thank you. I'll have to consider it - I've hacked off a few people here with some of my deletion nominations (I can be a bit hasty sometimes), so it would probably fail. Anyway I'm considering your own adminship priveleges at English Wikipedia still. I think you would probably be qualified but I'm not much of RFA hawk. I recommend asking User:Fastily what he thinks of your chances; he led me through my own RFA process and is very familiar with it.

Also, if you still had the old functionality to only transfer one version at a time, one thing you could do is make use of my file transfer script which is (finally) public: tools:~magog/oldver.php. Magog the Ogre (talk) 21:50, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Flickr images

Hi Sreejth, i just got the author of these flickr images to release them under the "Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0" license. Please issue a ticket. I will add them to the image files after i upload them. Thank you.

Joyson Noel Holla at me 10:24, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the license of these images are non-commercial which Commons cannot accept. Will you be able to ask him to change the license to a free license that allows commerical and derivative works. In that case you dont need an OTRS ticket even. Otherwise if you email OTRS, you will get a reply back to do the same thing. OTRS does not really take emails for flickr images since it is very difficult to verify whether the email address is actually associated with the flickr login. --Sreejith K (talk) 17:20, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

I hope they fix it soon! --Meryam90 (talk) 20:31, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Interesting. But without seeing the image page, I guess no license reviewer will confirm the license. At least I wont. Lets wait till the site fixes the issue. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:55, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

ARG! I just went though the new bollywood Hungama pictures archive...No luck :S, what do you suggest? that I delete this one and upload a new picture that exists on their current database? What should I do to get it deleted then? (Sorry to bother you, this is really sad, I liked that picture alot) --Meryam90 (talk) 20:51, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

If you can spot the picture in another page, then edit the page description and fix the source. That should make the rest fall in place. --Sreejith K (talk) 08:23, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Hello again :D would you please review a picture I added today (seriously, Bollywood Hungama is scaring me now, the link may go 404 any day :S) Thank you. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SRK_award.jpg#.7B.7Bint:filedesc.7D.7D

Can you choose a better filename when uploading files with your robot? Johnduhart (talk) 05:39, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

✓ Done - I took the same name what it had on en wiki. Now I have renamed the file. It is better to keep the same name when moving to commons or else the en wiki pages that has the image will need to be manually edited to fix the image name.--Sreejith K (talk) 09:58, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Please stop the bot!

Every single transfer that I have looked at from SreeBot is incorrect and needs to be fixed. Transfer information "Transferred from en.wikipedia by SreeBot" is not the source and does not go in the source section. Many of the local files have been deleted already, meaning that an admin is going to have to go through every one and fix this mess by bringing over the information that was supposed to be in that section. There is a reason why transfer bots are prohibited from the transfer competition; it's not a fairness thing, it's a "it'll catastrophically screw up" thing, which is precisely what happened here. Sven Manguard (talk) 20:52, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

First, it's not a bot. SreeBot is just an alternate account I use. All the transfers made under this username is supervised and is done manually. I just use a tool to make the new information template and upload the file. The tool is mostly similar to en:Wikipedia:FTCG, this is just another copy which I hand wrote. The usually add the source from en wikipedia first and add text "Transferred from en.wikipedia" in the second line, but in a lot of cases where there is no information template in en wiki, the only solution is to add the source as "Transferred from en.wikipedia". You may see that CommonsHelper also does the same thing. If you feel that images which does not have a source specified in the origin wiki should not be moved to commons, I can oblige. Again, SreeBot is not a bot, its an alternate account that I use. All the mistakes that the bot makes are all made by me, and not by any automated program. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:55, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Re: File:Logo_steren.gif

Sorry, I missed the latter one. And per the discussion I will delete it.-Mys 721tx (talk) 22:28, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Moving non-free pictures from English Wikipedia.

Hi. I know you've aspired before for adminship, so I will give some constructive criticism. You have been moving a lot of images from English Wikipedia without properly checking if the source claim of PD is correct. In particular, you've moved a good number of images from British films which clearly weren't in the public domain, and you've done it even after I've placed automated messages on your page letting you know your earlier transfers were unfree.

It looks really bad for a sysop candidate to be moving non-free files to Commons. May I suggest you take a bit more time to evaluate the licenses when moving images over?

Thanks,
Magog the Ogre (talk) 22:34, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

I agree that I should have been more careful. Its just that I do not know a lot of copyright laws and tags. I am slowly learning them from my mistakes. Its only a small portion of my transfers that get nominated from commons; but that just not justify erroneous transfers. I will try to improvise my transfers the best I can. Thanks for your patience. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:29, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for listening (it's not something everyone does). Magog the Ogre (talk) 20:04, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi, you recently asked for an OTRS verification for this file. I only transferred this file from en.wikipedia, I am not the original uploader. I will leave him a message after the blackout ends. LegoKontribsTalkM 21:34, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi, how are you? Can you pass the Chevrolet logo, to wikipedia at Wikimedia, as the Ford logo? Please I need this image for the Chevrolet article in spanish. Thank you very much!!!!!
--Diego HC (talk) 02:48, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
I am not sure what exactly is required here. The article es:Chevrolet already has a logo in the Infobox. Are you looking at moving the en wiki image en:File:Chevypnglogo.png to Spanish Wikipedia? This logo cannot be uploaded in Commons anyways. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:26, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Cat a lot

Is there some setting to enable cat a lot? And How do you move stuff? I have it enabled and I see the link at the bottom right, but I'm unable to move images. cheers —SpacemanSpiff 11:25, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

There are no extra settings other than enabling it from Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets. If it does not work for you, you should report it at MediaWiki talk:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js --Sreejith K (talk) 11:28, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Tried again today, seems to work, maybe it was just some silly issue when I tried before. —SpacemanSpiff 12:49, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Paulette cooper.jpg

Hi, I got a message from you regarding File:Paulette_cooper.jpg - I can only say that Paulette Cooper herself granted the use of the image herself via email. Back then there was no official procedure on how to obtain permission and I don't have the email anymore. But I'm quite sure she would re-grant the use of the image. Feel free to contact her. Regards -- Fab (talk) 16:33, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

I have emailed Paulette cooper in the email id given in the website. If we do not get a reply, this image will have to go because currently, we do not have a proof that she actually granted Wikimedia permissions to use her copyrighted image. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:09, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
I have emailed her first, I believe prior to your email to her. Please wait until I hear back from her before acting further on this matter. Thanks. -- Cirt (talk) 18:16, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Makes sense. I will wait till I hear back from you. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:20, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
