Hi Stifle, I am surprised to see these edits (here and here) as they are not justified by the referenced ticket. The German language ticket supports both licenses, please take a look at the last message of the copyright holder. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 21:29, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I did not read down that far. Reverted. Stifle (talk) 09:47, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

OTRS received

Hey Stifle, since for the images in Category:Drowned World Tour you said that the OTRS has been received in ticket 2010010810008251. So can I or anyone update the tag as {{OTRS received}} for those images? Also, how can you have an account in OTRS and be a trusted user for the images? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 09:11, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Usually the {{OTRS received}} tag is added when a message has been received and replied to, but there is a problem with the permission. Although there is nothing to stop you adding {{OTRS received|id=2010010810008251}}, I suppose.
To get an account in OTRS you would need to go to m:OTRS/volunteering and apply.
To become a trusted user on Commons (which is only relevant for Flickr images and has nothing to do with OTRS), you can request it at Commons talk:Flickr files/reviewers. Stifle (talk) 09:52, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation Stifle, however, you said that there is a problem with the permission, can you elaborate what kind of problem. As far as I know, i did everything as explained in the permission. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 10:16, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
No, I said that the OTRS received tag is added if there is a problem with the permission. If the email has not been processed at all, there is no tag. Stifle (talk) 10:31, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, he he. I misunderstood. I have applied for Flickr review, let's see how that goes. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 10:35, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey Stifle, I just sent a mail to OTRS for the images in Category:Re-Invention World Tour. The mail has heading as "FW: Mad-eyes contact". Could you just provide me with the Ticket No.? Thanks in advance. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 05:09, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Permission to verify

Hi!

I have obtained permission to use photos from the portal http://www.grude-online.info/ here under CC 3.0 licence. Also from the http://picasaweb.google.com/petnjik author gave me the same permission.

The both permissions are, however, in Croatian language. Can you send me an e-mail and I will forward you the messages and later to translate in order to verify the permission as the clerk.

I have already made a template for grude online http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Grude_online

and you can re-edit if you want to!

Regards!--Quahadi Añtó 08:24, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

I have also obtained permission from here http://picasaweb.google.com/petnjik under the same licence.--Quahadi Añtó 08:36, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

You can send the email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. If it's in Croatian, place a notice at the top saying it is in Croatian, and it will be sent to someone who can speak Croatian. Stifle (talk) 09:14, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Quick OTRS Question

Hi Stifle,

Sorry to sully your talk page with another OTRS question, but your helpful "How to help OTRS volunteers" page makes you my favorite OTRS volunteer. :D

My question sir, is this: if I have images pending during the 30 or so day period of waiting for OTRS review, is it a better idea to hold off on actually using them in articles in case they arn't accepted for some reason? I don't forsee their rejection but this is my first time actually submiting for approval so I don't know the best practices. Thanks for any info or opinion you can provide! Buddy23Lee (talk) 22:42, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

I would go ahead and use them; the worst that can happen is they'll be deleted. Stifle (talk) 09:23, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

OTRS (obviously)

Hey Stifle, your en userpage says you're busy in RL, so no rush. What was the difference between File:Jean-Paul Rodrigue.jpg and File:Stages of a bubble.png? Is there anything I can do? Jarry1250 (talk) 15:24, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

The permission is from Mr. Rodrigue himself, which is fine for the second image, but we need the actual photographer's permission for the first image. Stifle (talk) 16:14, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Request

Could you please issue OTRS tickets for the following two images:

The two individuals have already sent evidence of their permission to Wikimedia. In fact, Pat Condell even sent it twice, but so far, the tickets could not be issued for some unspecified reason. Joyson Noel Holla at me 15:25, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

We can't issue tickets for those images, because we haven't received proper permission for them. In both cases, the email we have received is from the person depicted in the image, but we need the permission of the photographer. Stifle (talk) 16:16, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Kubadabad.jpg, Mysians and June Haimoff

Hello Stifle! I saw that you had put in a request for en:Kubadabad.jpg to be moved to Commons as per our correpondance. I wanted to thank you. I also copy paste below my remarks on an image on the en:Mysians previously existing in Commons.

"An image I previously uploaded (from the link http://1stmuse.com/Pergamon/t08.jpg ), dating from the 2nd century BC, was equally shot straight on without any artistic lighting, and the image is, exception made of any discussion on dimensions in paintings, carved reliefs and statues, whether 2D, 2D and half or 3D, and focusing on the image itself, is bi-dimensional. This image was deleted recently and I would like to re-upload it under PD-Art since visual material on the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysians , made question in the image, is rather scarce and the image brings a substantial contribution to related articles, all at the same time complying with the rules.". I intend to re-upload the image and, if need be, a discussion can be built around it.

There is another image on which we had discussed previously. It's en:File:KaptanJuneStreet.jpg. It's transfer'd from Turkish wikipedia without not much light shed on its source, but since it's there since ages by now, I suggest we either move it to Commons or decide otherwise. I had started the article en:June Haimoff by using the cover of her book as image to support the text and I intend to develop it a little more soon. But I refuse all responsibility for the present image added there by others. Regards. Cretanforever (talk) 08:01, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Photos of 3D work are creative works themselves. There is a choice of angle, lighting, etc., so they attract a copyright separate from that of the image. PD-Art applies only to 2D.
Someone already moved the June Street image to Commons, but I'm less than satisfied with its sourcing and history. Stifle (talk) 09:10, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Your description fits perfectly well with the image at the link http://1stmuse.com/Pergamon/t08.jpg. If you are satisfied in any manner with File:KaptanJune2.jpg, just delete it. I can put back the English language book cover again. At least I would have raised the matter twice with you. (Paranthesis: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KaptanJune2.jpg is on deletion track since more than a fortnight by the way. Someone is yawning to do it.:)
Regarding en:Kubadabad.jpg, as well as requested moves by me en:File:Muğla Konakaltı Hanı.jpg, en:File:MuğlaSaatKulesi.jpg, en:File:Muğla Hisar dağı etekler.jpg, en:File:Ege uni logo.png, en: File:SCT.gif, it will be useful to have Commons folks arrive at a consensus first. User:Eusebius, who seems to have made a habit of following me closely and whose English has deficiencies have, although he had previsously stated not having having the "power" to intervene on English wikipedia, removed your move request. He previously guillotined OTRS-ticketed images by a German source, as well as an image on which a long discussion had taken place between me and User: Martin H.. Some damage is remedied, some not and I won't go into that. It's up to each individual to make a self-appraisal on the better use each could have in either creating havoc here or by digging trenches across Haiti. Cretanforever (talk) 07:09, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
I note this message. There doesn't appear to me to be anything more that you are asking me to do at present. Stifle (talk) 09:11, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi! You've marked both image as sources... I uploaded those images based on the permissions given by the authors in Flickr (using FlickrMail). I've sent a copy of the mails (the same that has been in their respective talk pages) sent by the authors to OTRS but I haven't received their response. I was hoping if you could remove the template, at least until I get the answer from OTRS. --B1mbo (talk) 12:35, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

The way this works is that the template stays until the OTRS permission is verified. Otherwise people might just forget about the image entirely.
You can add {{OTRS pending}} to the images to state that you've submitted permission to OTRS, which may influence administrators not to delete the image in the meantime. Stifle (talk) 12:46, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your vote on my RfCU

I would like to thank you for taking the time to review my request for checkuser rights. I hope one more CU will make a difference, at least for the other CUs' workload! Regards, --Eusebius (talk) 16:30, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

OTRS question

Hiya... got a question about a pair of tickets you processed which I had forwarded along: 2010010310016751 (which is for File:April Hunter and Lorelei.jpg among others) and 4448288 (for File:JD Maverick as Santa.jpg). Both of them you tagged as "insufficient"... what more is needed? Tabercil (talk) 00:02, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Did you see the reply to your email? It was sent on 8th February at 15:09 UTC and explains the issue. Stifle (talk) 09:51, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Okay... for the image of April Hunter, I believe I forwarded a later email from her to the OTRS queue which makes it explicit about the circumstances of the images. And I've emailed JD Maverick on his two to get a clearer license. Tabercil (talk) 23:23, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Further update: image has been cleared under a specific license, and the permission has been kicked along to OTRS. Tabercil (talk) 04:26, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Ticket verification

Hey Stifle, can you take a look at Ticket 2010011910007482? Its been a long time since I uplaoded the images and its pending, hence can you help a little? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 06:14, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

I can't do anything with that ticket, I get an access denied message when I try to open it. Stifle (talk) 09:51, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Huh? Why? What can be the reason? Shall I send the mail again? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 08:52, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Never mind, the link you gave me was wrong. (Ticket:2010011910007482 would do it.) The ticket is still in the queue; tickets with massive numbers of images tend to take longer before someone is able to set aside the time to analyse each of the images and ensure the permission is valid before adding the ticket template. Stifle (talk) 16:21, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
This is kinda urgent. Atleast 2-3 of the images can be done? Shall I provide the names of those? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 12:00, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
The message will be processed when it is processed. Stifle (talk) 15:14, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Just a detail

Hi, I would really appreciate if you could put the OTRS-related templates in the "permission" field. Unless you have a reason not to do so? Regards, --Eusebius (talk) 12:39, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

It's faster to put them at the end, and there's a lot of tickets. I use the permissionOTRS gadget, when possible, but that is not possible if the license is in the permission field, or if the license the uploader used is not the license in the ticket. Stifle (talk) 13:53, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
OK, I didn't even know there was a gadget for that. --Eusebius (talk) 13:59, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

That OTRS 2010011910007482 again

Hi Stifle. Did you verify the above ticket and send a mail to me? Coz I got a mail from Joe Daly, figured it can be you. The mail mentioned some problems like,

"We have not been able to validate this authorization at this time, because we are unable to be sure that the email address which you have used is indeed that of the site where the content was originally published.

To confirm this authorization, you may:

  • Resend this email to us from an address listed in the contact page on your website (please ensure that you include the ticket number in the subject, so that our system will associate the new email with this one).
  • Amend (temporarily or permanently) the contact page on your website so that this address appears on it, and reply to this email saying you have done so.
  • Add a notice on your website specifying that the content is released under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 license (or, in the case of an image, any other acceptable free licence), and reply to this email saying you have done so and linking to where we can see the notice."

I was not able to understand which email address the person is referring to. I have previously also got permission from them to upload the images, from their site. Do you want the website to send any mail? Please revert back. The ticket in question is Ticket:2010011910007482. Please can you help me to understand what the above means? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 04:08, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

The email sent to OTRS was not from an email address that OTRS was able to associate with the source of the images. To use an image from mad-eyes.net we need permission from an address ending in @mad-eyes.net or displayed on the site somewhere. Stifle (talk) 09:11, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
No? I have sent OTRS permission before also from the same mail id, CC-ing the Madeyes team as well. Even it was you only who had updated the license for a similar mail from the same id. Nowhere it says that the website name has to be indentical to the correspondence. If you really want to believe, go to Mad-eyes.net and try contacting them, you will get the same yahoo mail id. See also the images in Category:Drowned World Tour and its ticket. Hope that clarifies your doubt. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 09:44, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
File:Madonna-live earth-hey you.jpg - this is one of the similar images you verified. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 09:51, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
To use an image from mad-eyes.net we need permission from an address ending in @mad-eyes.net or displayed on the site somewhere. While this requirement may not have been insisted upon in the past, OTRS has become stricter recently and we will require one of the three actions above to be taken. If the person who sent us the email genuinely owns mad-eyes.net, then they will not have any issues complying with the requirement. Stifle (talk) 10:18, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
It is obvious that I donot own Mad-eyes.net. The correspondence is present in the Ticket itself. And by past if you mean just one week back, whence you verfied the above image's ticket, then I seriously don't know what to say. And how the hell will Mad-eyes send a mail from @mad-eyes.net when their contact listing is with yahoo? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 10:25, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
I can cancel the verification of the other image if it'll make you feel better. But there are plenty of options available — they can put a note on their site saying "We confirm we are the senders of OTRS ticket #2010011910007482" and send it to us, or they can put the email address they use on their site, or they can put a CC-BY-SA release notice on their site. Stifle (talk) 10:37, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
The last option seems workable. Will you give me some time so that I can contact their webmaster Bart and ask him to add the release notice? For the second option, do they need to just show that madeyesteam@yahoo.com is their mail address on the webpage? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 10:43, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
No problem — the best solution is that the website specifies that [insert list of images, or category of images, or whatever] are released under the CC-BY-SA-3.0 license, located at [2]. Next best is to add the contact address to some page (doesn't have to be linked anywhere, just send us the URL). Stifle (talk) 10:50, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

(Outdent) OK I have just sent a mail to Bart, the webmaster. Let's see what they respind back with. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 11:03, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Help with OTRS

Hi, I need your help with reviewing new images I added to the project, those are found in my gallery here and I sent the appropriate permission e-mails to the appropriate e-mail containing the standard template for the release of images, thank you for your help MaenK.A.Talk 20:27, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

All messages to OTRS are placed in a queue and answered in the order received. There is currently a backlog of about two weeks. Please be patient. Stifle (talk) 20:38, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Aha, no problem at all, I have no problem with that, I was just wandering if this could speed up the process, but I am not in a hurry at all, Anyway, thank you for this notice MaenK.A.Talk 21:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Files still awaiting OTRS confirmation

Hello, Stifle. The file(s) listed below have been marked with {{OTRS received}}, but there has been no complete confirmation of its permission status in the last 30 days. From what I'm able to tell, you were the person who added this template. Would you mind taking a look at this again? If confirmation cannot be found, this file should probably be marked for deletion. This should be the only notification you will receive regarding this image, so long as the comment I added to the image description page is not altered. Thanks! HersfoldOTRSBot(talk/opt out) 22:25, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

If you are not an OTRS volunteer or did not add the "received" template to this file, it's possible I made a mistake identifying the correct user. I look for the most recent diff where the template was added, so if you reverted an edit where this template was removed, I can't tell the difference. If this is the case, please let my operator know at w:en:User talk:Hersfold. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I received your email about the OTRS for File:Mesopropithecus globiceps skull 001.jpg, so I sent an email to the copyright holder requesting that he be more specific. My apologies... some of these academics can be difficult to get a reply from. I will send the release as soon as I can obtain it. – VisionHolder « talk » 23:40, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

I just received a more detailed release for this file and have submitted it to the OTRS queue. I don't know if you can search for my email (it has my user name in it), but it should provide the necessary information to keep the file on Commons. Sorry for the trouble. – VisionHolder « talk » 02:53, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
I've found it; for future reference you should keep the ticket number in the subject of the email when replying. This will keep the relevant emails together. It will also ensure that the email doesn't get sent to the general queue and you don't wait another three weeks for a reply. Stifle (talk) 09:07, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
