First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

上記のファイルがなぜ削除依頼に出されたのかとご不審の様子でしたので、説明いたします。日本の著作権法第 46 条では、公共の場所に恒久的に設置されている芸術作品（彫刻・銅像・モニュメントなど。以下「屋外美術」とします）の利用を認めているものの、商業目的での利用は例外としています。すなわち、日本国内の「屋外美術」は商用利用ができません。コモンズのファイルは商用利用を含め自由に利用できるものでなくてはなりませんので、商用利用ができない日本国内の「屋外美術」を撮影した写真はコモンズでは削除対象となります。作品の制作者の没後 70 年（作者不明の場合は、制作時点から 70 年）を経ている作品は著作権が失効しているため問題ないのですが、上記ファイルはそれには該当しないため削除依頼を提出しました。ちなみに、ウィキペディア日本語版 (jawp) ではコモンズとは多少違ったライセンス方針をとっており、屋外美術を被写体とする写真の利用方針に従った形であれば、jawp へのアップロードは可能です。今後、「屋外美術」に相当するファイルのアップロードをお考えの際はご留意いただければと思います。
なお、今回の依頼は担当の管理者が存続という判断を下しましたが、理由は De minimis（デミニミス、DM）を適用したということのようです。デミニミスとはたまたま写りこんだものの意で、コモンズでは「本来は問題がある被写体だが、その写真の主題ではなかったり、画面上の重要な構成物ではないと見なされるので、例外として認める」という扱いのことをいいます。ご参考まで。Yasu (talk) 14:58, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
 Comment説明いただき、ありがとうございました。撮った時点では公共の場所にあるので誰でも見れることから、建物などと同じようにアップロードできるものと考えていましたが、モニュメントは屋外美術との件、コモンズとウィキペディア日本語版でライセンス方針が違う件、了解しました。今回はデミニミスが適用されたということで了解しましたが、以降こちらからアップロードするために写真を撮影する際には気を配りたいと思います。--Tail furry (talk) 15:29, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
ご理解いただきありがとうございます。書き漏らしていましたが、「屋外美術」には今回のようなモニュメントだけでなく、たとえば大仏像や大観音像といった、美術品とは思いつきにくいようなものも含まれます。日本の「屋外美術」に関する削除依頼がまとめられている Category:Japanese FOP cases/deleted/3D artworks をごらんいただくと、これまでにどんなファイルが削除対象とされてきているのかがお分かりになるかと思います（もちろんファイルの中身は見ることはできませんが、どんな写真だったのかファイル名から多少は想像できるかもしれません）。今後のご参考になれば幸いです。Yasu (talk) 15:45, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
