Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Kao abov.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Also, there are so many images in this collection without source listed. Thank you for finding the one that I uploaded! -- carol 00:01, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
That is no reason of course not to provide them. I have personally been quite active lately with digging trough the NASA PD pictures, and cleaning up where I can. Adding sources, IDs and categories and tagging with "no source" where i really am unable to find a source. Images without a proper source and author (despite being NASA PD) should just not have been uploaded here in the first place. Everyone just doing their part. TheDJ 00:34, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
I did not present a reason for anything. It is interesting to me that you would think that I was giving a reason for not giving the source.
I have been going through images and quite often, I had to look around for what the images purpose was. Occasionally, it meant going to another wiki that was written in a language that I don't know. A couple of times I had to look elsewhere (non-wiki sites) to find out what the image was about. Is that the wrong approach to take when looking for problems with images like this one? -- carol 08:35, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Image:07pd0334-m.jpg[edit]

Image deletion warning Image:07pd0334-m.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Quick delete Gadget[edit]

It is defined in Mediawiki:Common.js wich is no longer loaded first. The new Gadgets method changed all of that. Specially bugzilla:10184 and [1].

I'm fine with adding if ((typeof QuickDeleteLoadCount == 'undefined') ) but it doesn't work on all browsers (IE is specially dumbest). However maybe those will accept the var undeclared...

Upload form redesign[edit]

Could you spare 15 minutes to half an hour and beta-test the redesigned upload forms using Safari on Mac again? (You're using a Mac, right?) There have been so many changes that I'm not absolutely sure anymore they'll still work on browsers other than IE6 and Firefox.

There are three forms to test:

 • Original design with extra fields, but one single description field.
 • Alternate design proposed by Pfctdayelise with extra fields and one description field per language (more can be added by clicking the "+"-buttton).
 • Basic form for experienced users: no additional fields, just input validation.

Documentation is at MediaWiki:UploadForm.js/Documentation. A mock-up of how Commons:Upload could look if this were enabled globally is at User:Lupo/upload (using the alternate design).

Would be great if you could help out with that; I don't have access to Safari myself. Oh, and which one do you think is better: the original design with one single description, or the alternate design with the description-per-language fields? Thanks, Lupo 15:15, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

OK, let's forget it. But I'm still not sure, this case is really unclear. And what about crew photos? I found a number of fake licenses and no sources. You was right, IFD will be used. --Panther 18:55, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

That was my point yes, it's not really suited for no license. there is too much to discuss in a broader scope here. TheDJ 10:23, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Complaint[edit]

You should not move images from Wikipedia to the Commons when the result is that the image gets deleted from the Wikipedia article. This is what happened when you moved Image:Yarlung Tsangpo river tibet.jpg from Wikipedia to the Commons. After you moved it, the image was then deleted from the article, Yarlung Tsangpo River (Tibet), at Wikipedia by a bot that deletes mention of deleted images from articles. Fortunately I noticed this. I searched for the image on the Commons in order to reinsert it into the article but the search came up empty. Fortunately again, someone on Wikipedia was able to find the article at put it back into the article.

I wonder how many times this has happened and no one has noticed the image deletion in the article and the image is lost forever to the article. Mattisse (talk) 16:11, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Bot generated garbage[edit]

Hi. Re edit [2]: False information should not be in image description pages. If it is wrong, it needs to be corrected or removed. I don't see any reason for an exception if the garbage was generated by some bot. I certainly don't think junk misinformation that has been corrected should be reinserted in the name of some type of "standardization"! If you have an alternative argument, I welcome hearing it. Thanks for your attention. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 01:00, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

A popular bot used for transfering images here from elsewhere on Wikimedia has default setting for describing images original to the person who uploaded them to Wikipedia. When it is used for images that originated elsewhere, if the person doesn't bother to correct the information during the transfer process, the bot can generate misinformation absurdities and garbage. Bots are useful, but by their nature dumb, so it helps to keep an eye out when using them. If an image description page has inaccurate info, it is proper to correct it. -- Infrogmation (talk) 03:09, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
See this edit for how the bot originally uploaded it. If you think what the bot says should be sacred and all misinformation must be preserved, I suggest you should revert to that version, which has false source, false date, false authorship -- all exactly as the bot stated them. I on the other hand think the point of image description pages is to present accurate information, not preserve misinformation. Thanks. -- Infrogmation (talk) 15:46, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Categories with IMO Numbers[edit]

You added a category as Category:Space Shuttle External Tank to the IMO category. I assumed it was not so usefull to see IMO numbers used otherwise than tools to find ships by IMO number. I created category:Freedom Star and added your categories. Not sure correctly. --Stunteltje (talk) 17:01, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

File:Claude Nicollier.jpg[edit]

I have undone this revision (Removed category "European astronauts"; Quick-adding category "Astronauts from France"). I don't know where you got this information, but it is wrong since Claude Nicollier is Swiss. Maybe HotCat.js is too efficient a tool, allowing one to modify many articles very quickly — but I think care should be taken in order to avoid introducing wrong information in image information. Cheers, Schutz (talk) 23:43, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

You are right. Error on my part. I didn't know Swiss was an ESA member, and the photo was taken with a suit that has a USA patch, so I assumed he was French. sorry. TheDJ (talk) 12:41, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

File:Mark-shuttleworth-iss-thinkpad-big.jpg[edit]

Hi, the source you found says All original content © HBD, All Rights Reserved. So unless you can find proof that this image is an official work of the NASA, I will have to delete it again. Sorry.
By the way, there are other images of Mark Shuttleworth on http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/ that could be used to illustrate his article. --Tryphon (talk) 15:51, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

I know. Still looking into it. Also contacted the original uploader on en.wp. TheDJ (talk) 15:54, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
OK, I reset the date on the no source template to give you some time, I'll delete in a week if there is still no source (or before if you find out that it is definitely not NASA's work). Thanks again for doing the research. --Tryphon (talk) 16:09, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

File:Discovery space shuttle liftoff (STS-119 mission).jpg‎[edit]

Hi, I get why you would remove Category:Space Shuttle Discovery, because it's already included through Category:STS-119; but as it is a picture of the actual shuttle (not just related to the shuttle) I think it's one of these cases where it's appropriate to have both (and if one category should be removed, I would rather remove Category:STS-119 instead). Do you mind if I put it back? –Tryphon 13:22, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

In my opinion, it's only useful if you can clearly recognize that the shuttle is discovery instead of one of the other shuttles. We have plenty of pictures of shuttles regardless. TheDJ (talk) 13:26, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah but have a look at Category:Space Shuttle Discovery, 45 files only, most of them categorized both under the mission number and the shuttle name. And except for a few of them, the shuttle is not recognizable either. I really think it would make sense to have this file in both categories, because it is not more representative of mission STS-119 than it is representative of the Discovery shuttle. –Tryphon 13:34, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
I disagree, but it's a free place. TheDJ (talk) 13:45, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, I know, but I don't want to edit war over this either. So if you don't feel too strongly about this, I will add the category back; we'll see if someone else thinks it's inappropriate and removes it again. –Tryphon 13:53, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello, TheDJ!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

BotMultichillT 06:19, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Why did you categorize Image:Mg-MSFC-6415627.jpg under Category:Mercury-Atlas mission?[edit]

MR-3 (Freedom 7) was a Mercury-Redstone mission. Or did you do this because Gordon Cooper, who flew on Faith 7, is in the photograph? It seems potentially misleading. --Colin Douglas Howell (talk) 16:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

I see you've now reverted that change. Thanks. And thanks also for all the earlier image crops and categorizations, which have made me aware of a couple of useful tools.  :) --Colin Douglas Howell (talk) 07:54, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Email clutter[edit]

I really do not think you have the right to clutter my email box either. If someone runs a bot, they should make sure it works properly. This one does not. Cluttering people's email boxes by means of a bot is really not acceptable. Jcwf (talk) 03:21, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Your threats are not particularly civil either. And trying to hide your personal behavior behind the "community" is rather cowardly. There seem to be people here that presume to have the right to do all sorts of things that they have no business doing. No my talk page is not for this kind of (your) behavior. I have done nothing wrong. I seriously try to put categories on my contributions and get punished for my good behavior by offensive and incorrect messages of my talk page and in my email box. And then you also want to muzzle and intimidate me. If anyone needs to "shunned" it is you.

Jcwf (talk) 16:42, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

(Replying on my own talk page, because user refuses to use his own talkpage). "hide your personal behavior behind the 'community' is rather" I assume, is a response to my statement: "it is not up to you to be judge, that is up to the community". This part of my statement was a response to your: "I really do not think you have the right" (where YOU are judging). and it was not a response to the rest of the your comment, nor hiding behind the community from me. It was meant to convey that if you have a problem that you consider misconduct by a user, then you can point that out civilly. If you want the issue to be judged however, you will have to bring it to the wider community. Both of those are no reasons for incivility. Had you been more open to a dialog, Multichill might have pointed you at his FAQ, where it clearly states that if you don't want to receive messages from bots on your talkpage, you will have to use the template nobots. Statements like "Mee ophouden!!!" transl. "Cut it out !!!" are truly not useful. TheDJ (talk) 17:05, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

My primary wiki is and will remain the English Wikipedia. My usage of admin tools would likely be highly connected to my adminship tasks there most of the time. An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

TheDJ, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons on irc.freenode.net. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

You are an admin. Please stop talking about this and delete it immediately. - Stillwaterising (talk) 01:03, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

This has been deleted. As has the closeup. Note that I've deleted quite a few more images and in one case, redeleted something that you restored. Please see Jimbo's talk for more thinking in this area. ++Lar: t/c 10:34, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

sponsor?[edit]

G'day DJ - I noticed your bugzilla thing (though I've yet to go read up on the ICRA tagging system!) - and I saw that you mentioned the idea of a sponsor - I'd be more than happy to kick in a targeted donation for this work - do you think we could setup something like the 'reward board' from en wiki here? - or do you have any other ideas for how that might work? - I'm happiest bunging in $50 or so along with any others, but if a few hundred could make it happen, I'm probably up for that too.... cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 02:57, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Those systems only work if you put a full time person on managing the bounties. I was thinking more that some sort of "internet safety for schools"-group sponsors the thing. TheDJ (talk) 12:22, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Your Adminship[edit]

I would suggest you cease and desist in your opposition to Jimbo's directive. Did you notice his statement "including removing adminship in case of wheel warring on this issue"? - Stillwaterising (talk) 12:44, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Huh ? Where am I desisting ? I'm just stating some things. I'm actually deleting material as described by Jimbo myself atm. At no time did I say we could not adopt such policies. I have always stated that we just didn't have them at this time. TheDJ (talk) 12:45, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
I saw your note of support on the Commons:Sexual content talk page. Thanks for that. Further efforts like that will be very helpful. In my view SWR is out of line to chastise you. His inability to express his points in ways that fit within the norms does not mean his points were invalid but the validity of the points does not excuse unacceptable behavior. ++Lar: t/c 15:59, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
TheDJ. I like you, even though we don't see eye to eye on everything. I was just giving you a suggestion, I don't want you to lose your privileges. - Stillwaterising (talk) 16:08, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Irresponsible behavior, deleting files without proper protocol[edit]

I would like to understand the reasoning behind the deletion of the following files without any proper discussion prior to the fact (I cannot find anywhere in Wikimedia any reference to these file names):

 • Male adult masturbation.gif
 • Male circumcised masturbation.jpg
 • Caucasian man masturbating.jpg
 • Ejaculation intensity horizontal.gif
 • Male masturbation top view.ogv
 • Urolagnia male self-piss.jpg

All files have had been in use with the exception of the last, which has been discussed on whether or not it should be deleted, and decided to keep. Obviously you've done no research prior to your irresponsible, vandalistic act today. Even if these files are undeleted, all previous connections they've had in the different Wikipedia projects (more than 30, mind you) have been lost.

Moreover, since I'm not very knowledgeable in the proper procedures here in Wikimedia, I would like to ask your assistance - as an Admin - to guide me how to report your behavior in the proper procedure.

Thank you. W00pzor (talk) 16:43, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

There are a lot of changes going on right now on Commons. Jimbo has stepped in requesting that Commons starts removing pornographic files with little educational value. I haven't looked at the content you've posted above, but just letting you know what's going on. An appropriate venue to ask for undeletion of these (if TheDJ feels they shouldn't be undeleted) is COM:UNDEL]. Killiondude (talk) 17:31, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Most of what I deleted today was either not in use, or very little in use, with alternatives available, and per the new guidelines of Jimmy Wales. We can review some of this content, but honestly I don't see how it falls within the limits imposed by Jimmy. UNDEL is the way to go. TheDJ (talk) 17:41, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification, I was not aware of policy change. I feel at least some of the above files were wrongfully deleted, thank you for directing me to the UNDEL page. W00pzor (talk) 21:01, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

I saw what you have done today on the different Wikipedia projects. Just wanted to let you know I really hope a resolution will be made which will get you to continue assuming adminship in Commons. W00pzor (talk) 22:35, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Inappropriate unilateral deletions[edit]

Do NOT delete images because you do not care for them per your personal opinions! See Commons:Deletion policy for what can and cannot be deleted without discussion. If in doubt, list on Commons:Deletion requests. Note that File:Labret phallic coddling.jpg which you suddenly unilaterally deleted without discussion had previously gone through deletion request discussion at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Labret phallic coddling.jpg with the result "keep"! Thanks for your attention. Infrogmation (talk) 00:30, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Please read the above, the village pump and Jimmy's talkpage. I won't delete these again, but the rules have changed and don't be surprised if another admin deletes them again. TheDJ (talk) 00:42, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Cough[edit]

[6]: "Unlike File:Leaning_on_Barn_Doors.png, which i consider to be one of the best images in our collection of nude photographs."

You know that the image is only 1,535 × 840 pixels, right? That can't even be considered high resolution or feature picture worthy. I'm sure that the "best image" would at least be high resolution. :)

By the way, see [7] "Images (save animations, videos, and SVGs) of lower resolution than 2 million pixels are typically rejected unless there are 'strong mitigating reasons'. Note that a 1600 x 1200 image has 1.92 Mpx, just less than the 2 million level.". The image is only 1.3 million pixels. The mitigating circumstances are historical in nature and non reproducible subjects.

I've spent a lot of time with various featured picture processes, so, I just wanted to point that out. :) Chances are, anything found on flickr would fail our featured process. We have rather high standards for what we call the best. :) Ottava Rima (talk) 04:34, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Who said i wanted to make it a featured pic ? It's just pretty that is all that there is to it. TheDJ (talk) 13:35, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm just teasing you. You said it was one of the best. :P By the way, I believe there is a higher res version of the image on the same flickr account if you really want to put it up so others would agree (it would just need to find some use on any of the pedias). killEvt()[edit]

Just occurred to me: did you check what happens if a link has more than one click handler (added through addClickHandler)? Unless I'm mistaken, I've always used this on links my scripts generated themselves and where I thus could simple set node.onclick = ... What's the meaning of having several onclick handlers? Is there some order? (Quirksmode says the order is undefined.) If one handler kills the event, are the remaining ones still executed? Should they?

In particular I wonder how that might work on IE, where the return false indicates "suppress the default action". Actually, Microsoft tells not to return false (though that evidently also works) but to set evt.returnValue = false. See also [8] for a slightly different implementation of killEvt.

According to John Resig (of jQuery fame), "return false" both prevents the default actions and event bubbling. In my experience, that is true only on IE. (In fact, i never checked whether it inhibited bubbling, but it certainly kills the default action.)

Neither Microsoft nor Mozilla tell what happens if there are several onclick handlers. At least Mozilla mentions the possiblity of adding more than one through addEventListener.

Anyway, all of these are edge cases. As long as there's only one onclick handler, either setting the onclick property or using attachEvent (IE) or addEventListener (W3C) and using this killEvt will work.

Cheers, Lupo 06:56, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

In the case of multiple handlers at the same level, you have stopImmediatePropagation, which should block all onclicks at that level, opposed to normal behavior, that only stops the one onclick event from propagation. Exactly how this works on (esp) older IE versions, I'm not sure. TheDJ (talk) 22:38, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Ah, DOM Level 3. So newer browsers only. But good to know all the same; thanks for pointing it out. Lupo 06:31, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Rtl.js[edit]

Hi,

I saw that you made some changes to MediaWiki:Rtl.js. I don't know whether your changes are related to this, but i see now that when an account has Hebrew set as the language in the preferences, the Vector interface is badly broken: the tabs on the right (near the logo - user page, talk) hide the page title and the tabs near the search box (edit, history) are all the way down in the page.

I tried it with a freshly opened account and it happens there, too.

Do you have an idea how to fix it? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:31, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Still problematic after action=purge and Ctrl-F5.
I just tried it again on a different computer with a brand new account and it happened there, too. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:44, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps you have a broken gadget or script in your /vector.js installed. That would explain something. Try to look at your Javascript error console. TheDJ (talk) 09:51, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
I don't that that's the case, because when i try it, it happens with a completely fresh user. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:55, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Weird, I cannot reproduce. You may revert the changes if you want, but the version before mine wasn't even valid Javascript working Javascript, so I wouldn't expect much improvement. TheDJ alt (talk) 10:01, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

BP / British Petroleum / Bruno Pagès[edit]

Hi, while BP is not me I don't really understand why you used example about British Petroleum. The (supposed) reasons of the (supposed) wish of British Petroleum you seem speak about doesn't have any link with mine. Is Bouml a calamity ? Do you suppose that I am ashamed Bouml and I try to hide its existence by asking for the removal of the image ? All know what a wish is, so why did you used this specific example ? Bruno pages (talk) 21:30, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

OK, perhaps this will resonate more. Lots of muslims wish of us to remove depictions/representations of Muhammed, because they honestly don't like that they are used in Wikipedia. At times these depictions are upon ancient vases exhibited in museums. We don't remove such images simply because someone wishes they are not there. There wouldn't be an image left in the Encyclopedia if we started deleting images because people wish so.
No Bouml is not a calamity. It is a reasonable notable program within it's industry. Apparently you wrote an article on english wikipedia and it got deleted. That happens. It happens every day. It is nothing personal. It does not reflect on you or your project (at most on your skills as an independent writer). Anyone can write a new BOUML article in the English Wikipedia at any time, adding proper sources, toning down the promotional talk of the first article and stating why the program is so relevant within its industry (again sourced of course) should result in an article that would most likely be allowed for inclusion. However instead of familiarizing yourself with the editorial rules of the English Wikipedia (which I admit is a daunting task, but YOU want to be included, so it is your responsibility to live up to OUR rules), you made this into a personal vendetta instead. That is also not a problem for Wikipedians/Wikimedians but it isn't exactly the same as making friends. Also, please remember that every single Wikimedia website is its own community, with its own rules and procedures. We do not decide for the other projects. This image that we are discussing here on Wikimedia Commons (a repository of freely usable works, not an encyclopedia) is a non-trademarked word, written in a common font. As such it is a free image to whom no one can assert any legal copyrights. This image is USED on 3 projects. If you have trouble with how the image is used, take it up with the individual projects, on the talk pages of the articles where the images are used. By writing here, you are contributing to a project. This contributing is like sending a patch to a software project. You don't apply the first version without looking at it. You review. If there are bugs, it is rejected. If the coding style doesn't match the coding style of the project, the patch is rejected. If people complain that features aren't implemented quickly enough, you ask them to send patches. If there are bugs, you ask them to report them. Users may not like it, but it is how a software project is run. TheDJ (talk) 22:00, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi, few remarks :
 1. we do not delete material simply by wish, a group of persons following this rule without any possible exception establishes a dictatorship, and the only possible behavior for the rest of people is to accept or to do the war. This is not my understanding of the standard human relationships.
 2. Supposing you are married and your wife took a day to prepare a new dish, you drop and there are not enough / too much salt, so you put in the trash immediately. Do you really imagine she'll think it is nothing personal ? I discovered Wiki process when I written my article on Wikipedia English, so I have taken time to understand how to do to have the text and images like I expected, and few days after the article disappeared without any discussion. Navigating on Wikipedia finally I found a way to ask for the admin who removed it to know why, and he answered he didn't remember why. I insist and he said he remember and this was because the article is autobiographic. I protest saying this have no sense because the article speak about Bouml rather than me, so he said this was because there is no link to the article. Following this kind of rule it is not possible to write any article because a new subject can't be referenced. Worst this reason was still absurd because I written the article because I saw Bouml referenced in a list of tools, and clicking on Bouml link a page proposed me to write an article on it. So again I protest and the answer was being the author of the too I can't write an article on it, and other admins confirmed that the article had to be removed ! Do you really imagine I think it is nothing personal. A little time after I saw (thanks Google) a German also write an article on Bouml and this article was also removed few days after because not understandable reason, are you really surprised if because of that I decided to modify the license for Wikipedia nebula ?
 3. I understand when placing something in xxx we have to follow the rules of xxx, but this doesn't allow xxx to do anything and process like if we are robots rather than human. Worst, on the opposite it seems admins don't have to follow any rule, and Esby or Bapti can freely say any nonsense about me.
Bruno pages (talk) 18:36, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Bouml titre.jpg[edit]

Hi, I contact you because you seem to be the most reasonable among the administrators on this discussion. This discussion don't really progress now and become a troll far of its expected goal. Even the last reaction of Robert doesn't have its place in this discussion it is not a surprise because of Bapti and Esby remarks about me. I don't know who is Robert, and I don't share his remark about you, I think you really used that as an example, and the two possible ways to understand BP is just a bad chance. So, to avoid worst troll perhaps it is time to stop this discussion and to take a decision ? Of course I still hope this image will be removed, we disagree about the fact the image is or not protected by the license, but I hope the two other reasons I give in Summary of why to delete the image are enough strong arguments. Sincerely Bruno pages (talk) 09:38, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

no chance to solve problems ?[edit]

Hi, the fact my request to delete the logo of Bouml in fr.wikimedia was accepted given me some hope. A user of Bouml will create a representative picture of Bouml to place it under Commons and to use it in place of "Bouml titre.jpg" on wikimedia pages. Referring to your sentence when it is no longer used, a case might be made for removing it from Commons, as being outside the scope of the Commons project on my tack page, the goal is to not have this image used anymore to allow me to ask you to delete it and I hope to see this image deleted because it doesn't have any interest by itself. If that happens everyone wins, for me there is no more violation of license and I will be able to continue to work on Bouml, Bouml users of Bouml will appreciate that and of course to replace an image without any interest by a representative image will improve wikipedia & commons. Currently the articles on wikipedia are continuously modified by people (probably Bouml users) to try to remove the reference to the image, please note I never ask for that, I just asked for help in deletion requests, and as you can see in http://fr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=BOUML&diff=57033938&oldid=57033229 I canceled the last change adding a remark to help them to understand. Unfortunately as you can see in http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bouml_logo.png Pieter Kuiper and Tryphon are playing with fire to inflame the situation I try to calm, please can I ask your help to solve the problems ? Sincerely --Bruno pages (talk) 09:17, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, finally Arkanosis gently created an image faster than the user of Bouml I speak previously, and this screenshot is used on all three articles about Bouml. Because of the perturbed recent history I prefer to not ask myself for the deletion of the now useless image Bouml_titre.jpg, and the associated Bouml_logo.png recently created and being a clone also not referenced and worst very confusing because of its name saying it is the logo of Bouml (the logo of Bouml is an other image). So, can you help me for the deletion of theses images to definitively turn the page ? Thanks --Bruno pages (talk) 07:07, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
I will consider it. First one more thing. The diagram displayed in that screenshot, it is owned by User:Arkanosis ? Because a diagram like that is a creative work and thus copyrighted, so I want to be sure that this is Arkanosis' own diagram that he 100% owns and is thus allowed to release under a free license. If he can add a statement on who owns the diagram and how it is licensed to the world, to the file description, then there shouldn't be any reason why that screenshot would be deleted. TheDJ (talk) 15:25, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi, yes the screenshot was made by User:Arkanosis using a model he owns, please refer to this exchange (sorry, in French). I don't ask for the destruction of this screenshot, it is really useful. I ask your help for the destruction of the now useless image Bouml_titre.jpg, and the associated Bouml_logo.png (a clone of the previous image) also not referenced and worst very confusing because of its name saying it is the logo of Bouml (the logo of Bouml is an other image). Thank you --Bruno pages (talk) 15:44, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
I got that. TheDJ (talk) 15:46, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Small request[edit]

Hi arkanosis, if you can do me a favour, would you please add a statement to the bouml screenshot, that the diagram displayed in it is owned by you and licensed under a free license as well ? That would make it totally perfect. TheDJ (d) 13 septembre 2010 à 17:48 (CEST)

Hi, done. Best regards — Arkanosis 13 septembre 2010 à 18:06 (CEST)

Request to delete the 'so called logo's of bouml[edit]

Hi TheDJ,

regarding the final result of the latest discussion of the 'so called logo's of bouml and it results:

 • the conflict-graphics: Bouml_titre.jpg and the associated Bouml_logo.png are NOT the logo of bouml
 • the conflict-graphics are removed from all wikipedia sites

So now is no link anymore on these conflict-graphics. Can you delete them like you discussed it with Bruno Pages?

Thanks a lot 84.144.165.191 11:49, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Bapti still tries to fight even the facts are clear. So I keep my request for delete up. --84.144.157.123 15:11, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Removal is not a goal in itself. There needs to be consensus and agreement on removing that image. You can't just remove it yourself and expect to be done with it. The image is still in use, reopening a deletion discussion on Commons about a free file that is in use will be pointless at this time. Having said that, i think that Bapti is being a bit 'hyper sensitive' about this issue now. I don't see how his administrative actions benefit the French wikipedia at this moment. But i'm not a part of the French Wikipedia community, so I won't get involved with that. TheDJ (talk) 16:15, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

when this will finish ?[edit]

' Bruno is just smoking something if you ask me... ' visibly the personal attacks are a specialty shared by the administrators of wikipedia. I am not responsible for what can be said by other people than me, whatever you imagine I always said the same thing, as its name indicated without ambiguity the logo of Bouml was the picture corresponding to the file bouml_logo.png (the drawing is still visible on sourceforge.net). For the rest the tool is dead, and I really don't understand what pleasure all of you have to dance on his corpse. --Bruno pages (talk) 06:17, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Let me get this straight, you said here that neither File:Bouml titre.jpg nor File:BOUML logo.png is the official logo, and yet you're saying now that bouml_logo.png from your website is the official logo. But File:BOUML logo.png is identical to bouml_logo.png (except bigger and GPLed), so it seems you're contradicting yourself. It's really sad that you stopped developing a useful and much appreciated piece of software over this disagreement, but I have to say I find it more and more difficult to understand what exactly is the issue (it started with licensing issues of File:Bouml titre.jpg, became about that file not being the official logo and removed from Wikipedia for that reason, and now that they're using the official logo, you still seem unhappy with it). –Tryphon 07:59, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
is the common sense definitively lost on wikipedia ? as I said above I am not responsible for what can be said by other people than me, and this includes the erroneous declarations 84.144.157.123 did here. For the rest Tryphon through your behavior you are co responsible to my decision to stop Bouml --Bruno pages (talk) 08:51, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I didn't understand you were actually refuting 84.144.157.123's declaration in your answer. So now that you confirmed File:BOUML logo.png is the official logo, it can be used as such on the Wikipedia articles, right? Your only complaint left is that File:Bouml titre.jpg is still misrepresented as being somewhat a logo for BOUML, although you said several times it wasn't, correct? I'm sorry if anything in my behavior made you feel attacked, I'm only trying to work towards Commons' goal, which is to provide free media files that other Wikimedia projects might find useful (we try very hard not to interfere with the editorial choices of the individual projects, and to avoid having local disputes spread to Commons). I probably don't see the big picture here, but if you could explain what the remaining issues are, it would be most helpful. –Tryphon 09:32, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
I don't understand it either. He clearly doesn't like wiki(p|m)edia and is now punishing his users over that. Doesn't really seem to make sense, but if that is what he wants, it is his choice. I tried to help the user with some things, but there is only so much that can be done. To be honest, Bapti misbehaved in how he handled this (on fr.wp and de.wp) in my opinion. Going into other projects, edit warring and protecting where he probably should have left that to another admin. Really, with the logo there and the screenshot, i really don't see why the website title should be included. Other than perhaps to show that we will not be blackmailed. TheDJ (talk) 11:29, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
@Tryphon, if I asked for the deletion of Logo_Bouml.png the fact you reintroduced it in commons could not make be happy, if you want details as I said to Arkanosis to see your image was the drop of water that broke the camel's back, and finished to decide me to stop bouml development. @TheDJ, I never said I don't like wikipedia/commons (and I said the reverse on DVP), but yes I don't like the behavior of several administrator, the administrators are not wikipedia/commons and wipedia/commons is not reduced to the administrators, but unfortunately I cross the way of too much bad administrators, and more unfortunately I am not the alone in this case. For the rest the fact persons like Derekson and Bapti can continue to have their behavior without receiving remarks from other administrators is a responsibility shared by the administrators whose implicitly accept this kind of behavior, and the fact they can continue to be administrator is a responsibility shared by the people in charge of who can be/stay administrator. Bruno pages (talk) 15:25, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you.

License Notes[edit]

Hello TheDJ, can you say something about this NRAO/AUI/NSF (for astronomers on your user page)? -- Perhelion (talk) 18:35, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

I have not yet looked into those organizations yet. Do you have examples ? TheDJ (talk) 19:21, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
OK, they have high resolution images (tif) http://images.nrao.edu/AGN --Perhelion (talk) 20:10, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
OK, the NRAO, is a project managed by AUI and financed by grants of the NSF. Unlike NASA (which employs people in it's own laboratories), the NSF only "donates" money to organizations. As such the works are not produced by a US government employee. The NRAO images are copyrighted and usage is licensed with this image policy. NRAO and NRAO partners explicitly create a non-commercial copyright and the images are therefore not usable in Commons. TheDJ (talk) 20:31, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of File:EUR 1 (2007 issue).png[edit]

Hi TheDJ, I saw you executed the deletion of the above file. I don't know, whether you were involved in the deletion discussion. The link to the deletion discussion is not valid any more so I can not check the argumentation.

I would like to point out that there is at least one official source stating that a reproduction of the common side of Euro coins on Wikimedia is perfectly legal:

http://ec.europa.eu/economy_finance/euro/cash/reproduction/index_en.htm

It states the following:

Reproduction rules for coins
The reproduction rules of the common sides are decided by the European Commission and are intended to avoid confusion between genuine euro coins and medals and tokens of a similar size and with similar properties. Only the following reproductions are allowed:
 • reproductions in a format without relief (drawings, paintings, films) provided that they are not detrimental to the image of the euro.
 • reproductions in objects with relief, other than coins, medals and tokens, provided that they are not liable to be confused with coins.
 • reproductions on plastic objects and malleable tokens of a size at least 50% larger or smaller than the normal size.
Reproduction of the national sides of the euro coins is governed by the legislation of the issuing countries, since these are the holders of the copyright in the design of the national sides.

Therefore I would suggest to undelete the named file and all the other common side euro coin images that may have been deleted.

Batch upload request[edit]

Hello,

Sorry to bother you. We have previously made a batch upload request (here), which Multichill (talk · contribs) accepted. But the upload was never completed (he was not responsible for most of the 507 images that have been uploaded), and now we cannot even get Multichill to answer. I have made a new request here, and noone has reacted. Maybe I made a mistake in my request, but that does not matter any longer.

For us in Wikimedia Sverige, this is an important cooperation: Nordiska museet is very influential in the GLAM sector in several countries around Sweden, and right now they are beginning to become skeptical towards Wikipedia as a cooperation partner. With a successful cooperation here, we may see many more images - they have millions in their archives, and they are, as I wrote, influential.

That's why I wonder whether you would consider making this batch upload for us. If you cannot, please let me know as soon as possible, so we may proceed with another user.

Thanks in advance//Hannibal (talk) 14:45, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Was busy with the Hackaton and other things. I did respond, but lost track of whoever was on the cc or not. Multichill (talk) 16:01, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
@Multichill: Oh. I beg your pardon. I did not mean to circumvent you. (By the way, nice things you guys did at the Hackathon!) Since you specified on your user page that you didn't want emails, I assumed that writing on your talk page would be a better option.
That is however not the important issue here: we would just like to know if there's anything more we can do to help to move things along. Best wishes, //Hannibal (talk) 16:15, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

 • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
 • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
 • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
 • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
 • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

JavaScript exploitable when inserting unescaped strings into DOM[edit]

Hi DJ, I saw this edit which allowed inserting arbitrary code into the DOM (e.g. through onclick, onmouseover attributes). Please double check whether it is necessary to escape before inserting "HTML" into the DOM. Just consider a file name like File:" onmouseover="alert('There is a security vulnerable. Please contact the next admin.')" target=".png where wgTitle exactly returns " onmouseover="alert('There is a security vulnerable. Please contact the next admin.')" target=".png. I know you removed it for now, so it's just a hint for the future. Thanks in advance. -- Rillke(q?) 09:56, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, File:Wikisnaps orientation test.jpg, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote.

If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

comment removed[edit]

I had removed my comment at the village dump, and as yours was a response to mine and doesn't make sense on it's own, I removed it as well, hope that is ok. Penyulap 22:11, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Dear TheDJ. I am writing to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section/Aug-Sep 2013 within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Chandra images[edit]

Sorry, can you comment about this? Ruslik (talk) 07:30, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

User:Ruslik0 Pffft, that is just ridiculous. Just one more proof of how totally bonkers broken Commons has become. Following in the footsteps of en.wp
"The NASA employee who explains THEIR attribution policy probably knows less about copyright than I do, so we are gonna be holier than the pope and request them to send a signed contract instead of an email, so we can battle them in court if we need to" come on. It's NASA's interpretation, that they are applying to their material. If there are multiple owners it is their responsibility to put multiple attributions statements.
The Chandra institute is managed by MSFC, and as far as I know wholly funded by NASA under contract NAS8-03060. "Under the FAR general data rights clause (FAR 52.227-14), the government has unlimited rights in all data first produced in performance of or delivered under a contract, unless the contractor asserts a claim to copyright or the contract provides otherwise." Even IF Chandra claims copyright, that still gives the government unlimited rights, and that includes everything in that website, which is developed and operated under the same contract. Sure they can make mistakes somewhere, but this doesn't look like one of them to me and to presume it is as dumb as putting no trust in the usage of the Creative commons license while most people have no clue what that does either. This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Personal tools idiocy.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. (You can get a list of all your uploaded files using the Gallery tool.) Thank you.

No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it. If you have any questions please contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 16:09, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R1 Announcement[edit]

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

You are receiving this message because you voted in the 2012 Picture of the Year contest.
