[edit] Image:Schneider Trophy 2006-08-10.jpg deletion

Hi, I have just found out you deleted my photo Image:Schneider Trophy 2006-08-10.jpg. I haven't been online for a while (technical difficulties) and missed the debate. I understand the reason you deleted the file was Commons Derivative works policy. However, on the "Commons:Freedom of panorama" page it states:

United Kingdom Section 62 of the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, allows photographers to take pictures of (a) buildings, and (b) sculptures, models for buildings and works of artistic craftsmanship (if permanently situated in a public place or in premises open to the public) without breaching copyright. Such photographs may be published in any way.

This would mean that my photo of the Schneider cup trophy should be fine as regards Commons Derivative works policy.

the preceding unsigned comment is by Trounce (talk • contribs)

Thank you for pointing that out, I have undeleted the image. Sorry for any stress I might have caused. -- Cat chi? 13:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Flag of Ireland

Hi,

The flag has seemingly disappeared from all related Wikipedia articles, I was wndering if you could help sort out the problem. I've already undid one edit, but, alas, it was useless.

BS

I have had a look and the flag seems to be displaying fine now. Some one must have rectified the situation. Sorry for not replying sooner.--Trounce 10:20, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:2007-02-20 time zones white bck.svg

Viewing your image I noticed that at least the international date line seems to be wrong in the Kiribati territory. See Image:Timezones optimized.png as well as the article en:International Date Line, last paragraph. It would be great to get the correct lines in your SVG. --Jailbird 12:42, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that Jailbird. That map is basically a straight SVG copy of the CIA World Fact book PDF version. The CIA World Fact book maps have been known to have a few "irregularities". Unfortunately, I am not able to fix the error. However, please feel free to fix it if you are able.--Trounce 20:07, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Flag of Ireland

See here . --Julieb 16:20, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

There was no decision made there to go with coated rather than uncoated. Or am I missing something?--Trounce 18:46, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
The coat version is a better representation of the flag --Julieb 19:18, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Thats your opinion. There was a discussion on the precise colours here. The colours decide were based as closely as possible to the Dpt of Taoiseach's specifications. It isn't a matter of personal taste. Different computer screens display colours differently. What you see for the colours you prefer are most probably different on my screen, and vice versa. Uncoated Pantone was chosen, as it is the basic ink representation. It attempts to represent the Panotone colours from uncoated paper stock on a computer screen. It was chosen as the most "neutral" representation of the quoted Pantone colours.
The coated Pantone colours that you personally prefer represents how the Pantone inks would appear on gloss paper stock. This was not chosen as the gloss alters the appearance of the Pantone inks. Again, it isn't a matter of personal taste. Cheers.--Trounce 12:46, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Which camera ? at which price ?

Hello, please can you tell me with which camera you took this picture : Image:1_wasp_2007-04-25.jpg. I plan to buy a camera, and I'm interested to produce macro photographs for commons. You can answer on my IP talk page or on user talk:Yug as well. 220.135.4.212 09:15, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

hello Trounce

Hello, since you provided me kind advices, I come again to request your help.

I made a "deep" analyse of 3 camera : Canon S5 IS ; Panasonic FZ18 ; Panasonic FZ8 (+the Canon D40 SLR which is too expensive for me). I'm incline to buy the FZ18, mainly because : a/ he have a 18x optical zoom ; b/ if I understood well, I will be able to add Zooms/lens later if I feel the need (not possible on the S5 IS); c/ it's a "super-zoom" camera, build for this task if I understood fine.

I precise "If I understood fine" because I feel lost between English and technical English words. Especially, I don't understand some important fields of this table (can you replace comments which have question by your explanations, or correct my statements.).

Note that this is a template, full version of this table is on user:Yug/Camera. So you can correct my table or answer right here to all you can.

Any help is welcome, I will buy my camera this saturday. O.o ! Yug 07:03, 25 March 2008 (UTC) +many thanks

PS: your opinon on this 4 cameras is welcome too. Yug 07:31, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Finish : I will buy the FZ18.

Many thanks to you. I now [sadly] know that I will not be able to add/change lens on this FZ 18. Camera which allow such possibility are sadly out of what I can spend : the camera alone is often about the price of the FZ 18, and then I should buy one lens, then an other one, etc. Some people also noticed me than such tools are really huge and not convenient : you need a special bag, you need to change the lens every time, you can't run after Lizard or Wasp. I also eventually notice that your Powershot N2 just add a 3x optical zoom + 8 Mpx and already produce really correct macro images to display on computers' screens.

I had read ALL the links you provided to me, and I also had take looks at other camera review such as the 100$US too expensive -___- but really interesting FZ 50 , the FZ 30, the FZ8, the Canon S5 IS, etc, and I read that the FZ18 seems really .... GREAT for his price, I'm just sad that I can have manual/hand control on the lens' zoom (as the FZ 50) and that I will not have the possibility to add other lens If I soon feel the need to.

Any way, I learned a lot on this week, by your advice, by the pages an read, and I want really thanks you for the first REALLY IMPORTANT help and links you provided to me (dpreview.com).

I now know which camera to buy, I will buy it within 2 days (probably monday evening, for 350US$), and I hope I will soon provide some nice macro-Taiwanese-insects-pics. ;]

For the /Camera page, I also plan to clean up it within 2 weeks. The page is now too much "Bridge camera centered", and I plan to edit it to make it helpful for all kind of users on commons and for all kind of budget.

Many thanks, Have fun with your Cybershoot N2 and don't forget to enjoy your coffee ! (real life)
