Please don't upload[edit]

Please don't upload images with unknown copyrights status. Commons suppose to contain free (as freedom) images only (PD, GFDL, Creative Commons). I doubt that images from book published in 2001 (which somebody put on narod.ru) are in public domain. --EugeneZelenko 05:20, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Same goes for scenes from movies and for screenshots: such material is copyrighted and will be deleted from the commons. -- Duesentrieb 20:25, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC) Table of contents [

Информация к размышлению...[edit]

Please take a look how much of your today's uploads are candidate for deletion due copyrights violations. Please do not create unnecessary job for administrators in future. --EugeneZelenko 02:03, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Copyright

--EugeneZelenko 04:44, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Image:Lisichansk 1960.jpg[edit]

I labeled the image above as "copyright unknown", because you claim it to be PD without given further info. When labeling an image as PD, please give the source you got the image from, and why it should be in the public domain. Also, the title indicates it was taken in 1960, which would not place it in the public domain automatically (pictures are generally considered to be PD 70 years after the death of the photographer). The image may have been placed in the public domain by an USSR-law, but how can we be sure if no info is given about the image?

Here is some more information about what should be on an image description page: Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?) State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitely. If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from. Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted. Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. Need 10 day for connect with Author. --Ustas 20:06, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Need rename[edit]

From User talk:RCBot:

Need rename Image:Russia_Nothwest_1882.jpg to Image:Russia_Northwest_1882.jpg --Ustas 01:24, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)
It is currently not possible to rename files on the Commons. You need to upload the image again using the new filename. Then I could run the Bot and will finally delete the old image. But it is not necessary to run the bot since Image:Russia_Nothwest_1882.jpg is not used in any serious Wikipedia. — Richie 09:45, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Error in upload bot[edit]

Your upload bot seems to create broken description text - it neems not to be valid UTF-8 (see for example Image:Photo cathedral 01500 Cerkovi Rozhdestva Bogorodicy i Annozachatievskaya.jpg). Please fix that... If the description text is comming from some file, make sure it's encoded in UTF-8, too. Thanks! -- Duesentrieb 02:45, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

Vending machines[edit]

Hi Ustas,

you claim that all your vending machine images have been released into the public domain. Does the source say this specifically? The site http://gumballs.ru is (c) 2000-2005, and http://www.underthepier.com doesn't mention releasing copyright.

If they aren't released into the public domain, I'm not sure you can even count them as fair use, as this is obviously a private party/companies commercial and copyrighted photos, and we'd have no basis for a fair use claim. Asbestos 23:29, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi Ustas — any word on the image copyrights? If not, all the images may have to be listed for deletion. Asbestos 1 July 2005 12:21 (UTC)

Licence[edit]

Hello, a logo isn't in GFDL, and it is not in a "free" licence, so this picture (Image:Tissot box logo.jpg) can't be in Commons. YolanC 21:11, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

why? this my photo and this not only logo.--Ustas 20:14, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
I believe you, this is your photo, but it shows a logo, which can't be in GFDL. If you take a picture of a friend, you can't put it in GFDL if your friend disagree. YolanC 20:56, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
If you are a skilled specialist on a license (GFDL), I trust you to make decision. If it is necessary, please delete this photo--Ustas 07:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Ustas, I would be most grateful if you could tell me a bit about this image 'Image:Poster15.jpg'. Seeing as I don't speak Russian, I was unable to understand the website it was sourced from, and would be delighted if you could let me know when it was published, where it was used, etc.

Seeing as I am not a registered user it is probably easiest if you post any reply on this talk page.

Many thanks, S.J.
