On licensing

Can you point me to where I can see that a "TruFlite" screenshot could be freely licensed? Thanks --Herby talk thyme 12:15, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting but a meaningful response is required for the file not to be considered a copyright violation? --Herby talk thyme 12:59, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sequoia edit

Hi Uzma Gamal; I wonder if you'd be kind enough to explain your edit, please? I wonder why you removed my copyright notice?[1] I hold the copyright to all of the pictures that I take, with or without the notice, but sometimes the notice helps with copyright infringers. Thank you, Walter Siegmund (talk) 15:40, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Midway City CA Dairy Association 1937.tiff as a Featured picture candidate

Thank you for your request about improving Midway City CA Dairy Association 1937.tiff, however the image is too small to become a featured image. 2 M pixels are required unless it has high historical value. The File:Lange-MigrantMother02.jpg, by the way, is no less than 50 M pixels. Soerfm (talk) 12:20, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Thanks. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 09:17, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New template language - approved by the Presidential Libraries/NARA

Hiya - that new template language has been posted at the bottom of my user page - I'd love to have you comments! Bdcousineau (talk) 01:16, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Epic win

hey there!

I've achieved a subtle yet major victory for all the NARA field sites and Presidential Libraries: we are now allowed to post/upload any of the materials on our respective websites, NOT just the materials with ARC ID #'s. This is HUGE on many levels (which I won't go into here).

My question - since we will be uploading materials with differing archival descriptors, I think I need to develop different {{GFPLM-image}}'s for each group. The current {{GFPLM-image}} will have a line for the ARC ID #. A previous {{GFPLM-image}} did not (see previous for an example).

How can I name them? Can they be {{GFPLM-image/1}} and {{GFPLM-image/2}} and {{GFPLM-image/3}} - I'm not sure of the template naming conventions.

Thanks for your thoughts. Bdcousineau (talk) 18:16, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In Appreciation

Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum Barnstar
For writing 6 Ford Presidential Library and Museum inspired articles in less than 2 months; and the resulting 2, possibly 3, DYKs (including the second highest viewed DYK for December, 2012) I hereby award you this barnstar. Deep, deep bow. Bdcousineau (talk) 14:21, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A challenge for you, if you choose to accept it...

Uzma, I've got a challenge for you. I'm looking for a photograph of the photographer David Hume Kennerly to add to his Wikipedia article and his creator template here on Commons. Considering your finding of a Sandra Eisert image, I thought that maybe you would know where to look to find one of Kennerly. If not, that is fine, I just thought I'd ask first! Creating a WikiProject

I've been thinking about what you said about creating a WikiProject (act on it, don't talk about it, essentially), and I think that you're right and we should go ahead and create it. I think that we have critical mass right now and we won't have any problems with creating and sustaining a viable WikiProject, even if it is smaller than most. I'm going to start working on mock-ups in my Wikipedia sandbox. I don't know how exactly you were thinking of starting the project, but the exact procedure doesn't really matter to me: the only thing I will insist on is that the project is named for Gerald R. Ford and not the Library or Museum. I feel strongly that it should be content-focused and not institution-focused, and Smallman12q brought up the issue of conflict of interest, so I really think that we have to name it WikiProject Gerald R. Ford (or something similar). Thanks so much for all your hard work so far! I really do appreciate it! Michael Barera (talk) 20:38, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ~ how is everything in this corner of the wiki? Hope all is well. I replied to your most recent message. Bdcousineau (talk) 15:02, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ArchiveBot

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1. Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Affected:
