Talk header - RTL-safe v2.0.2 by Willscrlt
English English: Hello and welcome to my talk page on Wikimedia Commons. I also have a talk page on the English Wikipedia, which I check more frequently, and also on the Meta Wikipedia, which I check about as frequently as here. You may leave me a message at any of the three sites, or you can e-mail me if your issue is time sensitive or private.

Let me know if you want me to reply on another talk page (like your own). It is easier for me to keep track of conversations if they are located all in one place, so I will reply on this page by default. Sometimes my schedule is a little crazy, and it might take a few days before I can respond. Other times, I just need a while to contemplate before responding. If I do not have anything useful to add to what you said, I might not respond at all. If you expect a response, feel free to drop me a nudge after a day or two asking for one.

Please add new comments at the bottom of this page. Don't forget to sign your name by typing "~~~~~" (without the quotes) at the end of your message before you save it.

Note: This is my talk page and I reserve the right to remove abusive, bothersome, annoying, or inane comments without any response or regrets. Please remember to keep things focused on Wikimedia Commons rather than personal interest topics. (Personal stuff belongs in e-mail, not on public display.)

[edit] Old postcards

Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Konigstein81.jpg is very interesting, and it would be nice if we could extract from it some useful policy or at least guidance as to how old postcards should be handled. I have hundreds which I could upload, but many will raise the same issues as this, and I don't want to have to go through the same old arguments every time. Even better would be to work out some rules on anonymous images generally, but I suspect from past discussions that that will be much harder. I am thinking of working up a policy page on postcards, at least. If you have any thoughts on the general principles that should apply, could you leave me a note on my talk page? --MichaelMaggs (talk) 16:47, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Food by country discussion

Hi, I responded in User talk:Foroa#Category:Cuisine by country changes to avoid splintering of the discussion. --Foroa (talk) 12:26, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Cuisine of Chile

Hi. I reverted some changes from Category:Cuisine of Chile into Category:Cuisine of Los Lagos Region. Many dishes of Chiloe's food have become dishes of Southern Chile food and it isn't an adequate categorization put them only in Cuisine of Los Lagos (however it's right for licor de oro, roscas chonchinas or lloco). [edit] English Wikiquote comment

I saw that you recently set up q:User talk:Willscrlt. The box you set up suggests that people contact you on one of the other wikis you frequent (which is what I'm doing now). However, that isn't especially convenient, and it doesn't make much sense to jump to another project just to discuss Wikiquote. Instead, you can set your preferences to get an email whenever someone leaves you a talk page message (User Profile -> E-mail -> E-mail me when my user talk page is changed). That's the easiest way to make sure you get your messages. :) EVula // talk // // 07:28, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I agree it is not convenient for people to have to visit a different project to leave me a message. I do state that they can leave a message on the project, but if someone expects a timely response, they need to leave the comment on a site I actually frequent. I think that compared to other English Wikipedians, regularly monitoring talk pages on four different projects (en.wiki, commons, meta, and en.books) is considerably more conscientious than most. I maintain talk and user pages on about 20 different projects, including in 7 languages for Wikipedia. That would be a lot of different pages to monitor, and some of the projects have the e-mail notification disabled due to server loads. I try to use cross-wiki compatible templates as much as possible, so it would be a pain to customize my messages more than I already do. Is it an ideal solution? No. But it has worked pretty well for the past year or two that I have done so. Sometimes people respond locally, and eventually I see the message, and sometimes they respond on one of my frequented projects (usually for things that need to be addressed more quickly). I hope that helps explain why I have things setup the way I do.
Wikiquote is one of the newer (for me) projects I have started testing in. While I have used it as a resource for a long time, I haven't really edited there. If there are some local policies or guidelines I am ignoring, I will adapt accordingly. I try never to be disruptive, but every project has a slightly different take on what is and isn't disruptive. It makes it a bit challenging, but fun! Thanks for the comments. --Willscrlt (Talk) 07:50, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Hey, don't get me wrong; I'm not saying that your attitude is wrong, I just wanted to let you know of a nifty feature that you may or may not have been aware of. :)
And trust me, I feel your pain when it comes to checking multiple talk pages. I've got a sysop or 'crat flag on six projects, and am reasonably active on a couple more; I understand that it can take a fair amount of time just to check everywhere. EVula // talk // // 16:36, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the feature alert. It turns out on en.quote, that the particular option you mentioned was available but not checked. So your comment did help. :-) --Willscrlt (Talk) 17:57, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Cocktails Neon Sign.jpg

Thanks for understanding it was nothing personal. I'm sorry for the extra work it caused you. =( Powers (talk) 13:21, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
