No offense taken. Did it as manual vectorization of a pixel image, somewhere along the line the errors crept in. I have currently no time to redraw it correctly. --Zapyon (talk) 16:40, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
What means currently? It might not be too complicated to correct the image. --Leyo 07:40, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
Simple: Drawing it on top of the pixel image lead to distortions. I thought it would be best to redraw it from scratch, and not on top of the pixel image. Additionally, I was planning to add amino acid abbreviations in the circles. But all this takes time. Feel free to try it. --Zapyon (talk) 08:45, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
What I meant is that a SVG file is easily editable (i.e. without redrawing it from scratch). --Leyo 09:48, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
Sure, generally an SVG is certainly nicely editable. When I drew this one, though, I chose a not-so-perfect way of drawing the circles (check the file) which makes editing less fun. I have recently been experimenting again with the objects-along-path function of Inkscape, but did not yet get a result I like. Also, I have the AS sequences of en:preproinsuline and en:proinsuline at hand, but I don't see an automatised way to put all codes centered into the circles (OpenOffice.org Draw/LibreOffice Draw do have a simple way to do that, but Inkscape seems not to). If you have any ideas, please let me know. Also, if you just want a quick fix, feel free to touch the existing file. Regards --Zapyon (talk) 08:29, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R1 Announcement[edit]

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,
