A ship can change name and flag state through time, but the IMO number remains the same through the hull's entire lifetime. As a result, it can be useful to identify a ship by using the IMO number.
  • The former sealing ship was built in Bergen in 1912 and is the oldest purpose-built ship for Arctic sealing. The ship was in active use until 1981.She is scheduled as an important historical monument.
