English: HM Abdül Hamid II (Ottoman Turkish: عبد الحميد ثانی unicode:`Abdü’l-Ḥamīd-i sânî, Turkish:İkinci Abdülhamit) (1842 – 1918) — the 34th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
  • He ruled from August 1876 — until he was deposed in April 1909.
  • He was known as the Ulu Hakan (Divine Khan) by his supporters and as Le Sultan Rouge (Red Sultan) by the opposition (the Young Turks and their foreign supporters). He ended the First Constitutional Era of the Ottoman Empire in 1878, with the suspension of the Ottoman parliament.
