Altarpiece of the Gray Pénitents' chapel.[edit]

The gray stucco altarpiece by Sabatier, frames a picture attributed to the painter Nicolas Mignard according to an original by Carracci. It is surrounded by two stucco panels representing "The Garden of Olives" on the left, and "The Flagellation" on the right. On the cornice angels each hold one of the instruments of the Passion: from left to right, the spear, the crown of thorns, nails, hammer, tongs, sponge soaked in vinegar. The cross is in the glory designated by Almighty God. The emblem of the brotherhood is above the picture of the Descent from the Cross, two feet and two hands around a heart pierced by a spear that represent the five wounds of our Lord.
