Beckenham Baptist Church in 146 Colombo Street, Christchurch, was built from the vision of Rev. J K Archer and was officially opened by the new Governor General, Lord Bledisloe in 1930. It was designed to seat 210 people and cost a total of 3,600 Pounds "with furnishings". Archer was the Christchurch’s first Labour Mayor. The church was registered as a Category II heritage building with the NZHPT. The church was significantly damaged in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and has since been demolished.
