Category:Buffers with volute springs at the National Railway Museum
Appearance
In 1848 the industrialist John Brown (of Atlas Works, Sheffield, England) invented the volute spring for use in railway carriage buffers. There are various examples of early railway buffers containing volute springs, in the National Railway Museum, York, England, although most of them are probably later developments of his design.
