English: Burwell is a large village in Cambridgeshire with a population of 5,833 (2001 Census). Burwell Lode runs along the western edge of the Village, with all land north and west of that being part of the area known as The Fens. The village name means "Spring by the Fort", referring to Burwell Castle, located close to a spring in the south of the village. The term for a resident of the village is "Burwellian".
