In chemistry, carboxylic acids are acids characterized by the presence of a carboxyl group.

In chemical formulas, these groups are typically represented as COOH. Molecules containing such a functional group are also called carboxylic acids or organic acids, although there are other organic compounds that are acids, so this term can mislead.

For the conjugate bases of carboxylic acids, RCO2, see Category:Carboxylate ions. For salts of carboxylic acids, RCO2M, see Category:Carboxylates and Category:Carboxylate salts. For esters of carboxylic acids, RCO2R′, see Category:Carboxylate esters.
