English: Castle Howard is a stately home (mansion built for nobility) in North Yorkshire, England, 25 miles (40 km) north of York. Its proportions are almost as grand as the largest non-royal home, Blenheim Palace. Most was built from 1699–1712 for a (somewhat nebulous) forerunner to the leading political role in the country exercised by the 3rd Earl of Carlisle to a design by Sir John Vanbrugh.
