English: Cellular Jail, also known as Kālā Pānī (Hindi: काला पानी क़ैद ख़ाना, literally “Black water”, a term for the deep sea and hence exile) is a place located in Port Blair on the Andaman Islands (India), and is the name of a former British colonial prison completed there in 1906. The prison was known to house many notable Indian activists during the struggle for India's independence. Is is now an important cultural heritage monument of India, featuring a national memorial with sculptures of famous activits deported there and described as martyrs, an indoor conservation museum with photographs, documents and information boards, an outdoor auditorium, and a major place of attractions for visitors.
