The term Chera Dynasty (Malayalam: ചേരസാമ്രാജ്യം;Tamil: சேரர்) refers to two recorded Tamil dynasties that ruled before the Sangam era until the 12th century in today Kerala and Tamil Nadu in South India. The first Chera dynasty lasted till the 5th century AD and the second, also known as the Kulasekharas of Mahodayapuram, ruled from the 9th century. Little is known about the Cheras between the two dynasties.
