English: Chinese characters are en:logograms currently used in the writing of Chinese (where they are called hanzi 汉字/漢字) and Japanese (where they are called kanji). They were also used in writing a number of other languages, most significantly Korean (hanja) and Vietnamese (chữ Nôm), and remain in use to some degree for these languages. Chinese characters constitute the oldest continuously used system of writing in the world.
